COVID-19 as an effect modifier of the relationship between age and in-hospital survival in older patients admitted to an Italian Emergency Department

    No full text
Background: The SARS-CoV-2 pandemic modified how persons got into contact with emergency services, particularly during the first wave. Aim: The aim is to describe the characteristics of older persons with and without COVID-19 visiting the Emergency Department of a tertiary hospital and to investigate the impact of age on in-hospital survival in the two groups. Methods: Patients older than 70 years were followed-up till discharge or in-hospital death. Cox regression models stratified by COVID-19 diagnosis were used to investigate survival. Results: Out of 896 patients, 36.7% had COVID-19. Those without COVID-19 were older and affected by a higher number of chronic conditions but exhibited lower mortality (10.5 vs 48.1%). After the adjustment, age was associated with mortality only among those with COVID-19. Discussion: COVID-19 modified the relationship between older age and in-hospital survival: whether this finding is explained by other biological vulnerabilities or by a selection of treatments based on age should be further investigated

Parenting stress and broader phenotype in parents of children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, dyslexia or typical development

In the present study parenting stress and the broader phenotype are investigated in two highly common developmental disorders, namely Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and specific reading impairment (dyslexia). Within a total sample of 130 parents, 27 were parents of children with ADHD (P-ADHD), 38 were parents of children with a diagnosis of dyslexia (P-DYS) and the other 65 participants were parents of children with typical development (P-TD). A battery of cognitive tasks was administered which included verbal and non-verbal Intellectual Quotient (IQ), reading speed (passage and nonwords), verbal fluency and the Attention Network Task (ANT). Reading history, symptoms of ADHD in adults and parenting stress were measured through questionnaires. Group differences evidenced that the P-DYS group had lower scores in the reading tasks, in the verbal fluency task and in the reading history questionnaire. Conversely, the P-ADHD group had more transversal cognitive weaknesses (IQ, reading tasks, verbal fluency) and the highest scores in parenting stress and ADHD symptoms, together with poor reading history. The groups did not differ in the ANT task. Parenting stress was predicted, on the whole sample, by lower socioeconomic status (SES) and number of family members and higher ADHD symptoms. Implications for research and clinical settings are discussed. © 2019 by the author. Licensee MDPI, Basel, Switzerland

In a globalized, borderless world where competition fights for all customers, it has be-come vital for any company to search for the satisfaction of its demand, it is important to understand and know what your customers want. Therefore, the main objective of this study is to analyze through the Net Promoter Score (NPS) tool the level of satis-faction of customers who attend the Natal Shopping Bodytech Academy, in order to achieve this objective, a goal of three other specific points was established, which are, Identify customer segmentation data; point out the perception of customers in relation to health indicators and map the perception of customers about the physical structure of the gym.In order for the results to be achieved, the author used a methodology, descriptive and with exploratory characteristics since we will study a phenomenon, in this research more than 23 thousand responses were recorded from an average of 985 customers, in the period from 01.01.2019 to 31.12. 2019, the sample is non-probabilistic, mathe-matical and statistical methods were not used to determine the number of respondents and at the end the data were collected and developed using the Net Promoter Score (NPS) methodology. The results showed that the investigated academy has been able to satisfy most of its customers in relation to many aspects, such as physical structure and services offered, one point in particular demonstrates the need for improvement, the price, the satisfaction index is below others mentioned, diverging from the philoso-phy of excellence on which the company relies, consequently this factor leaves the organization unable to reach a level of full satisfaction of its client, thus being able to generate consequences in elements such as loyalty or future recommendations, a dan-ger that must be avoided in a corporate world of great dispute.

    No full text
This article proposes an analysis of recent alternative video games through the particularities of industrial music’s aesthetics. Considering a massive increase in video game production by solo designers since 2015, the author identifies how singular practices of game creation can be inspired by underground art forms. To further this research, five game developers were invited to participate through interviews: Yames, Selfish Dream, Valerie Dusk, Stef Pinto and Andrea Pignataro. The article proposes an analysis of the common production strategies between industrial culture and these game creators, more precisely by studying the singular use of noise in their games (audio but also visual and spatial) and how their creations act as noise in the context of the dominant video game industry by weakening its core definitions of what games are and the technocentrist history of the medium

Immune-stimulating antibody conjugates (ISACs) equipped with imidazoquinoline (IMD) payloads can stimulate endogenous immune cells to kill cancer cells, ultimately inducing long-lasting anticancer effects. A novel ISAC was designed, featuring the IMD Resiquimod (R848), a tumor-targeting antibody specific for Carbonic Anhydrase IX (CAIX) and the protease-cleavable Val-Cit-PABC linker. In vitro stability analysis showed not only R848 release in the presence of the protease Cathepsin B but also under acidic conditions. The ex vivo mass spectrometry-based biodistribution data confirmed the low stability of the linker-drug connection while highlighting the selective accumulation of the IgG in tumors and its long circulatory half-life
