Hydrogen-natural gas combustion in a marine lean-burn SI engine: A comparitive analysis of Seiliger and double Wiebe function-based zero–dimensional modelling
With increasingly stringent emission regulations, marine natural gas engines need to improve their performance. Various proven advantages of hydrogen-natural gas (H-NG) blends make them a promising enhanced fuel solution. Although modelling of H-NG combustion has been investigated before, mostly using CFD models, the literature on the modelling capabilities of Seiliger-based and Wiebe-based zero-dimensional (0-D) models is limited for H-NG combustion. Especially for the application of marine lean-burn spark-ignited (SI) engines. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to compare the capabilities of Seiliger-based and double Wiebe function-based 0-D models to capture H-NG combustion in a marine SI engine for different H-NG fuel blends, engine leaning (lean-burn operation) and engine loads. In this work, measurements on a turbocharged, SI marine natural gas engine were used to develop a heat release rate model, which was subsequently used as a basis for the Seiliger and double Wiebe function-based H-NG combustion characterization models. Results from the two combustion modelling approaches were compared for different H-NG fuel blends, engine leaning (lean-burn operation) and engine loads. The modelling results were also compared against engine measurements for different experimental conditions. This paper shows that the Seiliger modelling approach can be used to define different physical phenomenon in H-NG combustion, while accurately capturing the effects of hydrogen addition and engine leaning on the H-NG combustion process at varying engine loads. This research also found that the variations in late burn phase present in lean-burn NG and H-NG combustion can be captured using the double-Wiebe modelling approach, however, clear trends of the Wiebe combustion parameters for varying fuel blends and engine loads could not be identified to accurately capture the H-NG combustion process. Furthermore, Wiebe-based modelling approach produced larger errors in the estimations of work output and combustion heat for all test conditions.Accepted Author ManuscriptShip Design, Production and Operation

ARMIN WIEBE\u27S NOVEL, TATSEA
Izsledki raziskave so povezani z zgodbo romana skupaj s stilistično preučitvijo in predstavitvijo različnih literarnih tehnik, s katerimi je Wiebe prikazal prvi stik in trgovanje s krznom. Med takšne tehnike spadajo defamiliarizacija, vpeljava domorodnih jezikov, podrobni opisi, komparacije, ponavljanja in senzorične podrobnosti.
Opremljena z zgodovinskim in vsebinskim ozadjem sem ugotovila, da sta prvi stik in trgovina s krznom spremenila tradicionalni domorodski način življenja in razmišljanja z nepopravljivimi posledicami v domorodni populaciji, socialni organizaciji, tehnologiji, jeziku in kulturi. The subject of this graduation thesis is Armin Wiebe\u27s novel Tatsea. Although fictional in genre, it is based on the historical era of European/Aboriginal contact that initiated the fur trade. These two phenomena had major cultural and linguistic impact on the native population of North America. This issue of impact as presented in the novel through the Aboriginal character Tatsea is the main focus of this study.
For an efficient investigation, historical research was conducted about the author, the novel, the first contact, the fur trade, trade goods, the Aboriginal population, especially of Dogrib people, and native culture, was conducted.
Findings were connected to the context of the novel along with the stylistic presentation of different techniques used by Wiebe used in his novel to portray the themes of first contact and the fur trade: defamiliarizationimplementation of aboriginal languages and the traders\u27 languagedetailed descriptionrepetitionsimilesoxymoron and sensory detail.
Equipped with historical and contextual background, I found out that the first contact and the fur trade changed the traditional Aboriginal way of life and thinking, with irreversible consequences for their population, social organization, technology, language and culture

Review of \u3ci\u3eOf This Earth: A Mennonite Boyhood in the Boreal Forest\u3c/i\u3e By Rudy Wiebe
Rudy Wiebe, author of nine novels and three collections of stories as well as numerous other works, is best known for his historical fiction-particularly for novels featuring Canada\u27s Native peoples. A first-generation Canadian whose German-speaking Mennonite parents fled Stalinist Ukraine in 1929 and then homesteaded in Saskatchewan, Wiebe has tended to set his fiction on the prairies or in the north. Appalled by the prevailing view that the Plains were empty before European immigrants arrived, he has consistently worked to document the repressed history of Canada. His writing has focused not only on the First Nations of his native land, however, but also on his own immigrant people.
Wiebe\u27s considerable power is evident in all his writing, but arguably it is in his more autobiographically-infused work-especially his Mennonite fiction-that his readers might find a distinctly generous, lyrical tone of voice. It is this voice, so beautifully sustained, so intimate and engaging, that draws readers into Of This Earth.
Forty-four years after the publication of his first novel, Peace Shall Destroy Many (1962), which revealed enough autobiographical detail to provoke a hostile reception from members of his community, Wiebe has returned to his childhood among the Mennonites. Invoking in this poignant, humorous, and utterly compelling memoir the innocent perspective of a young boy-and drawing upon family stories, diaries, and memory-laden photographsWiebe intrigues and deeply satisfies his reader. His authorial self-reflexive musings throughout add a level of reflection that never rudely interrupts but richly enhances this narrative of a solitary and imaginative child
Developing clinical practice guidelines for epilepsy: A report from the ILAE Epilepsy Guidelines Working Group
Clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) contain evidence-based recommendations to guide clinical care, policy development, and quality of care improvement. A recent systematic review of epilepsy guidelines identified considerable variability in the quality of available guidelines. Although excellent frameworks for CPG development exist, processes are not followed uniformly internationally, and resources to develop CPGs may be limited in certain settings. An International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE) working group was charged with proposing methodology to guide the development of future epilepsy-specific CPGs. A comprehensive literature search (1985-2014) identified articles related to CPG development and handbooks. Guideline handbooks were included if they were publicly available, and if their methodology had been used to develop CPGs. The working group's expertise also informed the creation of methodologies and processes to develop future CPGs for the ILAE. Five handbooks from North America (American Academy of Neurology), Europe (Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines Network & National Institute for Health and Care Excellence), Australia (National Health and Medical Research Council), World Health Organization (WHO), and additional references were identified to produce evidence-based, consensus-driven methodology for development of epilepsy-specific CPGs. Key components of CPG development include the following: identifying the topic and defining the scope; establishing a working group; identifying and evaluating the evidence; formulating recommendations and determining strength of recommendations; obtaining peer reviews; dissemination, implementation, and auditing; and updating and retiring the CPG. A practical handbook and toolkit was developed. The resulting CPG development toolkit should facilitate the development of high-quality ILAE CPGs to improve the care of persons with epilepsy
Unemployment insurance in Algeria : implications for a labor market in transition
To predict how Algeria's unemployment crisis will evolve, the author evaluates the Algerian unemployment insurance system's ability to finance itself, to affect employment decisions, and promote enterprise restructuring. The main conclusion is that industrial restructuring has serious and persistent implications for the labor market. In an environment where many equilibria are possible, there is a real danger of reaching a high unemployment equilibrium. The big-bang experience of structural adjustment in Central and Eastern Europe transition economies resulted in large-scale unemployment. Despite considerable restructuring progress, structural rigidities still exist in the labor market, and long-term unemployment has persisted. One advantage of the big-bang approach is adjustment speed, but the resulting unemployment may be too costly for Algeria's economy, especially if it persists. A more modern mixed bang approach would incorporate active employment measures to mitigate entrenched unemployment. The policies will maintain or enhance human capital through work, so idle workers don't lose their skills. Flex-time arrangements would help workers maintain an attachment to the labor force. However minor, such work would help workers avoid the traps of long-term unemployment. Two striking conclusions emerge from the Central and Eastern European experience: a) unemployment is not essential to enterprise restructuring and labor market adjustment;and b) growing long-term unemployment is self-fulfilling and results in higher and persistence unemployment. Although active employment measures are costly and have relatively low rates of return in the short run, they can be marginally effective as part of a long-term strategy.Health Economics&Finance,Labor Policies,Environmental Economics&Policies,Labor Markets,Economic Theory&Research,Environmental Economics&Policies,Labor Markets,Economic Theory&Research,Health Economics&Finance,Banks&Banking Reform
