Interview with Amanda Huron, author, Carving Out the Commons: Tenant Organizing and Housing Cooperatives in Washington, D.C.
Is modern capitalism too far advanced in the U.S. to create common property regimes? Are there models for what an Urban Commons might look like? Join us as we speak with Amanda Huron, author of Carving Out the Commons: Tenant Organizing and Housing Cooperatives in Washington, D.C. (University of Minnesota Press, 2018). She’ll help us understand the theory and practice of Limited Equity Housing Cooperatives and the affordability, control, stability, and community they can provide to low-income communities and the people who live in them

Huron Institute, Normal School, Milan, Ohio
The Huron Institute operated from 1823 to 1858. The building was leased to Reverend Asa Brainard and Professor Samuel Newman. These men established the Western Reserve Normal School, dedicated to training teachers to the standards, or "norms," of education
Samuel Mather later Clifton
Built as the "Samuel Mather" in 1892, she was later renamed the "Clifton" and in 1923-1924 was converted into a self loader. She was lost in a storm, it is believed about 25 miles out in Lake Huron off Thunder Bay on the night of September 22, 1924. The entire crew of 28 men perished
Domesticating the energy information. : Comparing the feedback device design choices and user practices to develop a new design approach
Feedback systems have been produced over the past 20 years with the goal of engaging users to consume less electricity. However, many studies point out their limitations in the domestic context. In this thesis, we argue that taking into account the actual practices of users could generate new leads on energy feedback devices. We create a Design Space to describe the designers' point of view. We analyze their choices, such as the data used, the ways to represent and disseminate it, as well as the tasks assigned to the users. As a counterpoint, we conduct an empirical study with 10 participants. Through interviews and in situ observations, we describe and analyse how they perceive electricity, estimate their consumption and adopt strategies for accessing energy information.Important differences between these two points of view are identified. We use these findings to propose perspectives for future designs. The second part of this thesis explores one of these perspectives. At the crossroads of industrial and academic challenges, the definition of a device, called "Interstices Informationnels", is proposed. To explore this concept, we design a creative workshop where 15 proposals are generated by a group of design students. The "Interstices Informationnels" will be reworked with the designers of the EDF Design Lab. Four demonstrators are created and patented

J.S. Mill & Mormon Polygamy in the Canadian Context
This paper examines the legal treatment of Mormon polygamy in Canadian society through the lens of John Stuart Mill’s theory of liberty. It outlines the essential elements of his theory, and compares his response to the practice with those of modern liberal societies. The author argues that although the Canadian criminal prohibition on polygamy adequately reflects the “harm principle” in Mill’s theory, it undermines the individuality of those who consensually engage in the practice. The paper suggests that the Canadian legislation on polygamy ought to balance regulation of the harm that often stems from the practice with respect for the individuality of those who consent to such unions. The author recommends a number of ways in which the Canadian government’s approach to the practice can conform with the liberal principles of Mill’s theory.
