Sibila Samia

It has long been recognized that Menander’s Samia contains reminiscences of Euripides’ Hippolytos, and few parallels between Samia and Euripides’ Phoenix have also been discussed. This paper aims to extend the evidence for intertextual connections between Samia and Phoenix, and offers a new, effective example of Menander’s use of tragic plots and themes in his plays
