The space-time trellis coded orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (STTC-OFDM) has been implemented with the conventional maximum-likelihood decoder for multiple antenna transmission since the STTC-OFDM was initially proposed. In this paper, a modified maximum-likelihood decoding method with the utilization of a multiplexer at the transmitter and a demultiplexer at the receiver to isolate each transmitted signal at the corresponding receiver is presented. With this modified approach, the STTC-OFDM gives a better frame error rate (FER) performance than the traditional one over the Rayleigh frequency selective fading channels. The Doppler impact is additionally considered for the aggregate system to contrast the proposed methodology and the existing STTC-OFDM systems. Simulation results show that the modified STTC-OFDM framework enhances the FER performance by almost 4 dB at the FER value of 10-2 where the Doppler frequency equals to zero at the receiver. Even if a Doppler frequency exists in the system, the proposed scheme still gives a better performance than the existing STTC-OFDM systems

Characterization of the torsional vibration behavior of circular and rectangular cross-sectional arc springs: Theory and experiments

    No full text
This paper is about the theoretical and experimental characterizations of the torsional vibration behavior of circular and rectangular cross-sectional arc springs. Firstly, the dynamic behaviors of arc springs with different cross-sectional wire profiles designed for a dual mass flywheel are modeled by mathematical formulations. After that, experimental tests are performed to verify these models and it is observed that the stiffness characterizations are in good agreement with experimental results. Lastly, the masses of two different arc springs are compared by regarding the same vibration stiffness criteria and it is demonstrated that the rectangular wire provides an arc spring with a 9.44 vol.-% lighter structure. Thus, the outcomes of this paper can be good references for the manufacturer about the numerical and experimental characterization of dual mass flywheel springs, especially for rectangular wire arc springs.Orhan Automotive Inc. Uniform Topologies on Types

    No full text
We study the robustness of interim correlated rationalizability to perturbations of higher-order beliefs. We introduce a new metric topology on the universal type space, called uniform weak topology, under which two types are close if they have similar first-order beliefs, attach similar probabilities to other players having similar first-order beliefs, and so on, where the degree of similarity is uniform over the levels of the belief hierarchy. This topology generalizes the now classic notion of proximity to common knowledge based on common p-beliefs (Monderer and Samet (1989)). We show that convergence in the uniform weak topology implies convergence in the uniform strategic topology (Dekel, Fudenberg, and Morris (2006)). Moreover, when the limit is a finite type, uniform-weak convergence is also a necessary condition for convergence in the strategic topology. Finally, we show that the set of finite types is nowhere dense under the uniform strategic topology. Thus, our results shed light on the connection between similarity of beliefs and similarity of behaviors in games.Rationalizability, Incomplete information, Higher-order beliefs, Strategic topology, Electronic mail game

Hand-held spectrophotometer design for textile fabrics

    No full text
In this study, a hand-held spectrophotometer was designed by taking advantage of the developments in modern optoelectronic technology. Spectrophotometer devices are used to determine the color information from the optic properties of the materials. As an alternative to a desktop spectrophotometer device we have implemented, it is the first prototype, low cost and portable. The prototype model designed for the textile industry can detect the color tone of any fabric. The prototype model consists of optic sensor, processor, display floors. According to the color applied on the optic sensor, it produces special frequency information on its output at that color value. In Arduino type processor, the frequency information is evaluated by the program we have written and the color tone information between 0-255 ton is decided and displayed on the screen

The Contradictions of Free Market System and The Impacts of FDI and Foreign Trade on Economy

    No full text
This paper examines the effects of the FDI and foreign trade (Exports and Imports) as well as their importance in international economic activities. A central subject the study is to examine the impact of FDI and foreign trade on the growth and prosperity status of countries. Whereby the paper examines the role of international business on the developing progress of countries. The economic growth of a country depends on the quantity and productivity of the economic factors. For that reason FDI and Import-Export are most significant economic activities, which have substantial effects on the quantity as well as quality of economic factors in any country.  On the other side, customs union, quotas and regional trade pacts deactivate partly or in some cases even completely the projected effects of Smith’s absolute and Ricardo’s comparative advantages theories in the international production cooperation. The study examines this situation from a modern economic point of view

Teicoplanin is a glycopeptide antibiotic used in the treatments of serious infections caused by Gram-positive bacteria, including Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). One strategy to keep up with antibiotic resistance development is to limit dose and amount during treatments. Targeted delivery systems of antibiotics have been suggested as a mechanism to slow-down the evolution of resistance and to increase efficiency of the antimicrobials on already resistant pathogens. In this study, we report teicoplanin delivery nanoparticles of Poly Lactic-co-Glycolic Acid (PLGA), which are functionalized with S. aureus specific aptamers. A 32-fold decrease in minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) values of teicoplanin for S. aureus was demonstrated for susceptible strains and about 64-fold decline in MIC value was achieved for moderately resistant clinical isolates of MRSA upon teicoplanin treatment with aptamer-PLGA nanoparticles. Although teicoplanin delivery in PLGA nanoparticles without targeting demonstrated eightfold decrease in MIC of susceptible strains of S. aureus and S. epidermidis and twofold in MIC of resistant strains, the aptamer targeting specifically decreased MIC for S. aureus, but not for S. epidermidis. Therefore, aptamer-targeted PLGA delivery of antibiotic can be an attractive alternative to combat with some of the multi-drug resistant bacterial pathogens.Research Fund of the Yildiz Technical University [FDK-2018-3244]This work was supported by Research Fund of the Yildiz Technical University. Performance analysis of space-time trellis coded MIMO-OFDM systems

    No full text
Space-time codes are a standout amongst the most prominent procedure utilized as a part of the multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems in the advanced communication systems. While ordinary transmission between one transmit and one receive antenna is utilized, one can see neither diversity gain nor coding gain, which eventually implies that a critical change in the transmission cannot be observed. Space-time codes can be effectively connected through multiple transmit antennas and optional number of receive antennas. There are several approaches to provide diversity gain. The researches which are developed to achieve diversity gain by late 1990's are called as space-time block codes (STBC). Despite the fact that the STBC is anything but easy to execute, they do not provide any coding gain. Subsequently, so as to accomplish the coding gain other than the diversity gain, the space-time trellis codes (STTC) are connected all through this theory. STTC, which gives coding gain in regards to the number of the states, is then joined with the orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems, which is a prominent transmission method to send orthogonal signals with no interference between the subcarriers. It is ultimately called as STTC-OFDM systems
