Not like my mother : truth and the author in creative nonfiction
This exegesis examines how a writer can effectively negotiate the relationship between author, character, fact and truth, in a work of Creative Nonfiction. It was found that individual truths, in a work of Creative Nonfiction, are not necessarily universal truths due to individual, cultural, historical and religious circumstances. What was also identified, through the examination of published Creative Nonfiction, is a necessity to ensure there are clear demarcation lines between authorial truth and fiction. The Creative Nonfiction works examined, which established this framework for the reader, ensured an ethical relationship between author and audience. These strategies and frameworks were then applied to my own Creative Nonfiction

My Queen
The author submitted this entry in the Open Verse Poetry category (Amateur division) for the 2024 On My Own Time (OMOT) Art Show.My inspiration for writing the poem "My Queen" was to model writing elegy poetry for my 7th grade ELA students. My mother had recently passed away and I decided it would be an honorable memory. I didn't have a lot of time to fully process the reality of life without her nor really grieve, because I had a main role in preparing as well as participating in her funeral services, and afterwards, I could not take more time off from work. Writing this poem was very therapeutic for me, and even more so when I read it aloud in class to my students. When I finished reading it, the entire class gave me a standing ovation and many of them (including me) were visibly filled with raw emotions (tears). When they completed their elegy poetry, it was very apparent that my previous moment of transparency had quite a positive influence on their commitment to produce amazing heart-warming poetry

these works. I will discuss in detail the role that archaeoacoustics has played in my composition of fixed and mixed media works and how it has influenced me aesthetically in my approach to live performance. I will also explain in each instance any actual data used from various research sources, and my metaphorical interpretation of various archaeological sites and acoustic phenomena. Similarly, I will discuss the concepts of shamanism, ritual and transcendence that have influenced me, and how these concepts are expressed in my instrumental works, fixed media and live performance pieces
