On inter-sampling times for event-triggered large-scale linear systems
We consider the problem of stabilizing large-scale linear systems by distributed controllers, where the controllers exchange information via a shared limited communication medium. A small-gain approach for the design of stabilizing event-triggering schemes is discussed in this context. Using the line of thought that was recently used in the definition of parsimonious triggering, we derive lower bounds on the intersampling times associated to such event-triggering schemes. © 2013 IEEE
The extraordinary success of The Holy (1917) made Rudolf Otto famous, but it also contributed to propagate a simplified figure of the author. The rest of his work was condemned to oblivion, which caused misleading interpretations of The Holy itself. A genetic reconstruction of the way in which Otto established the term «heilig» in the technical German proves to be fruitful. When considering his interpretation of Luther and his Fries-based opposition to a neoKantian approach to the concept of «transcendental», the philosophical relevance of Otto’s theory of religion can be fully recognized, as well as unsuspected links to Husserlian phenomenology

CLOSE-RANGE SENSING TECHNIQUES IN ALPINE TERRAIN
Early career researchers such as PhD students are a main driving force of scientific research and are for a large part responsible for research innovation. They work on specialized topics within focused research groups that have a limited number of members, but might also have limited capacity in terms of lab equipment. This poses a serious challenge for educating such students as it is difficult to group a sufficient number of them to enable efficient knowledge transfer. To overcome this problem, the Innsbruck Summer School of Alpine Research 2015 on close-range sensing techniques in Alpine terrain was organized in Obergurgl, Austria, by an international team from several universities and research centres. Of the applicants a group of 40 early career researchers were selected with interest in about ten types of specialized surveying tools, i.e. laser scanners, a remotely piloted aircraft system, a thermal camera, a backpack mobile mapping system and different grade photogrammetric equ..
Rudolf Mayer
The bachelor thesis deals with the life and work of Rudolf Mayer. In the first part, attention is given to the author and the reception of his work presented in period magazines and newspapers from the poet´s death in 1945. During the second part of his work is examined in terms of literary discursivity the subjective romanticism
Rudolf Hilferding on English Mercantilism
In 1911 Rudolf Hilferding, the author of the famous book Finance Capital: A Study of the Latest Phase of Capitalist Development, published an article on the history of English mercantilism in Die neue Zeit, the theoretical organ of the Social Democratic Party of Germany edited by Karl Kautsky. The writing of the article was motivated by the publication, the previous year, of the third volume of Theories of Surplus-Value, containing Marx’s analysis of the work of Richard Jones, as well as by the simultaneous appearance of a German edition of Thomas Mun’s England’s Treasure by Forraign Trade. This article introduces the present author’s English translation of Hilferding’s article on mercantilism, titled “The Early Days of English Political Economy,” previously available only in German, and contextualizes it in the framework of the history of Marxist scholarship.Fil: Gaido, Daniel Fernando. Measuring Volume Changes of Alpine Glaciers with SRTM and TanDEM-X Data
Interferometric radar data (InSAR) offer the capability of measuring and monitoring the surface topography of glaciers and ice caps at high accuracy. Of particular interest are single-pass spaceborne InSAR systems such as X-SAR and the satellite formation TerraSAR-X (TSX)/TanDEM-X (TDX) because they are not affected by temporal decorrelation and changes in the atmospheric phase delay. The German-Italian dual antenna radar sensor X-SAR operated in February 2000 on the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM), acquiring data over swath of 50 km width, mapping about 40 per cent of the land masses between 60°N and 56°S. SRTM/X-SAR delivered DEM data at slightly better relative vertical accuracy (6 m) and horizontal resolution (30 m) than the SIR-C sensor which also operated on SRTM but provided full area coverage. In June 2010 TDX was launched, flying in close formation with TSX, both forming a single-pass InSAR system with the objective of providing a global DEM with 12m × 12m horizontal sampling and <2m vertical relative accuracy. Digital elevation data acquired by InSAR at different epochs enable to map changes of glacier volume and to estimate the net mass balance over the time interval. We analyzed volume changes of glaciers in the Ötztal Alps between February 2000 (SRTM/X-SAR) and February 2011 (TSX-TDX), showing significant down wasting of glaciers as known also from field campaigns and airborne studies. Because radar signals penetrate into snow and ice, the scattering phase centre of the radar signal and consequently the uncorrected topographic data are located up to a few metres below the actual snow and ice surface, the depth depending on the physical state of these targets. Because the topographic data in this study are derived from SAR systems operating at the same radar frequency (X-band), signal penetration is of minor concern for retrieving volume changes. The InSAR data show surface lowering up to 65 metres on the lower terminus of Hintereisferner. The total 2000 – 2011 volume change will be compared to in situ mass balance measurements for the glaciers Hintereisferner and Kesselwandferner
Code choice and code-switching in Swiss-German internet relay chat rooms
In the German-speaking regions of Switzerland, dialect is spoken by all social groups in most communicative situations, Standard German being used only when prescribed. Swiss dialects rarely appeared in written form before the 1980s, apart from the genre of dialect literature. Due to the growing acceptance of informal writing styles in many European languages, dialect is increasingly employed for written personal communication, in particular in computer-mediated communication (CMC). In Swiss Internet Relay Chat (IRC) rooms, varieties of German are used side by side as all chatters have a command of both standard and dialectal varieties. Depending on the channel, the proportion of dialectal contributions can be as high as 90 percent. The choice of a particular variety depends on both individual preference and on the predominant variety used within a specific thread. In this paper I take a quantitative approach to language variation in IRC and demonstrate how such an approach can help embed qualitative research on code-switching in CMC
Rudolf Arnheim's psychology of art
The presented thesis introduces Rudolf Arnheim's core claims regarding psychology of art. Arnheim's conceptions of expression, affectivity, visual dynamics, centric and eccentric composition (etc.) are investigated within the text. Furthermore, more recent empirical findings are brought to attention to confront Arnheim's view. A complete picture of Arnheim's theory of expression should be drawn in historical context. The empirical study hereby conducted offers a closer look at a number of Arnheim's hypotheses regarding the "weight" phenomenon, as described by author. The perception of "weight" is observed in relation to the chromatic characteristics of presented stimuli. Keywords Rudolf Arnheim, Gestalttheorie, theory of expression, affectivity, perceptio
Erzählungen des Großvaters.
Handwritten memoir, accompanied by a typed transcription, about daily life and schooling in Neustettin during the early 19th century. The narrator appears to have been born in Neustettin in 1805. Much of the memoir recounts the effects of various military events, especially the Napoleonic Wars, on family life. The manuscript is accompanied by a Littauer family tree, tracing the family genealogy back to Moses Littauer (circa 1720-1780) of Breslau. The author of the memoir is uncertain. According to the accompanying family tree, he is not Rudolf Littauer's paternal grandfather. The author is probably Rudolf Littauer’s maternal great-grandfather, Bernhard Behrend (born 1805 in Neustettin).Processed for digitizationdigitize
