Taxonomic notes on the genus Stephania (Menispermaceae) in southern Africa
AbstractA review of the genus Stephania in southern Africa is presented. Stephania is represented by one species (Stephania abyssinica) and two infraspecific taxa in this region. A key to the infraspecific taxa, the complete synonymy and the formal descriptions are given. Taxon accounts are supplemented with geographical distribution records, notes on the ecology and known traditional uses. The two varieties of S. abyssinica can easily be distinguished as the stems and leaves of S. abyssinica var. abyssinica are glabrous while those of S. abyssinica var. tomentella are pubescent. The correct author citation of the varietal name (var. tomentella) is also provided

Cette thèse porte sur Stephania tetrandra S. Moore, une plante chinoise appartenant à la famille des Menispermaceae. Dans un premier temps, sont présentées sa description botanique ainsi que sa répartition géographique et ses propriétés. Ensuite sont étudiés les composants chimiques majeurs de Stephania tetrandra qui sont les alcaloïdes isoquinoléiques localisés principalement au niveau de la racine. Sont décrits également les flavonoïdes ainsi que divers composés. La troisième partie est consacrée à l'étude des actions pharmacologiques de cette plante, au niveau cardiovasculaire, inflammatoire, sur le diabète, en cancérologie, comme anti-oxydant, anti-agrégant plaquettaire, ainsi que diverses actions pas bien élucidées à ce jour. Characterization and Phylogenetic Analysis of the Chloroplast Genomes of Stephania japonica var. timoriensis and Stephania japonica var. discolor
This study sequenced the complete chloroplast genomes of Stephania japonica var. timoriensis and Stephania japonica var. discolor using the Illumina NovaSeq and PacBio RSII platforms. Following sequencing, the genomes were assembled, annotated, comparatively analyzed, and used to construct a phylogenetic tree to explore their phylogenetic positions. Results indicated that the chloroplast genomes of S. japonica var. timoriensis and S. japonica var. discolor both displayed a typical double-stranded circular tetrameric structure, measuring 157,609 and 157,748 bp in length, respectively. Each genome contained 130 annotated genes, with similar total GC content and relative codon usage patterns, showing a distinct preference for A/U at the third codon position. Simple sequence repeat analysis identified 207 and 211 repeats in S. japonica var. timoriensis and S. japonica var. discolor, respectively, primarily the A/T type. Boundary condition analysis indicated no significant expansion or contraction in the inverted repeat regions with consistent gene types and locations across both varieties. Nucleotide polymorphism analysis highlighted greater variation in the intergenic regions than in the coding sequences of Stephania chloroplast genomes. Phylogenetic analyses demonstrated that the species Stephania clustered into a distinct, well-supported clade. Notably, Stephania japonica, along with S. japonica var. discolor and S. japonica var. timoriensis, established a monophyletic lineage. Within this lineage, S. japonica and S. japonica var. discolor were closely related, with S. japonica var. timoriensis serving as their sister taxon

ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHING CENTRES’ MANAGEMENT & LEADERSHIP: PERCEPTIONS, CHALLENGES, & RECOMMENDATIONS
In the rapidly expanding domain of English language teaching centres (ELTCs), there exists a notable gap in understanding the perceptions, challenges, and strategies employed by ELTC managers and leaders. This research endeavours to bridge this gap, acknowledging both the theoretical and practical implications of enhanced management within this sector. The crux of the problem is a lack of sector-specific insight into effective ELTC management and leadership, necessitating this inquiry into the shared experiences and strategies of those at the helm. Aiming to shed light on this, there were three stages of empirical research; questionnaires, interviews, and a focus group. The qualitative data from the questionnaires and interviews underwent Reflexive Thematic Analysis, and from this analysis, a list of recommendations was compiled, which were then reviewed and amended by a focus group.
From the data amassed, five pivotal themes emerged. These encapsulated areas ranging from the significance of self-awareness and the imperative for 'cultural intelligence' in international settings, to the central role of communication in leadership, the importance of professional development, fostering trust, and the role of flexibility. The findings suggest that effective leadership in ELTCs necessitates a multi-faceted approach, blending self-awareness with adaptability, effective communication, and continuous learning.
Conclusively, the research underscores the need for ELTC managers and leaders to be equipped with tools that cater to the unique challenges of this sector. Recommendations include a focus on training programmes emphasising cultural intelligence, communication skills, and fostering environments conducive to continuous learning and feedback. Such strategies are poised to elevate the effectiveness and impact of ELTC leadership globally
