The following is the detailed report of the narrative workshop within the project "NARR-LAB. La narrazione del sé come strumento di prevenzione della violenza di genere", born at the end of 2023 among students of the University of Palermo, with the aim of countering gender stereotypes and preventing sexual discrimination. One of the steps of the workshop was dedicated to text production activities, that is, self-narratives in which the students retraced some key moments in their lives, above all conflictual situations. The second step just consisted of the proposal of some literary texts related to self representation, as Una donna by Sibilla Aleramo, that falls into the genre of fictional autobiography. NARR-LAB ended with another experiment in autofictional form, but more strongly structured. The whole activity was designed to enlighten students on the value of self-narration as an instrument to rewrite one’s past, to assume an active role in one’s intellectual and emotional growth, to transform ancient traumas and old scars into experiences that can be narrated and communicated to other
Trought the unpublished correspondence between Leonardo Sciascia and Piero Guccione (1975-1989), is possible to analyse the intrinsec relationship between aesthetics and ethics, artistic vein and civil engagement, but also to retrace Sciascia’s controversies in the 1970s, thus illustrating the antagonistic and conflictual relationship between intellectuals and power
A occhi aperti. Sogni letterari nel Rinascimento
Dream and literature have in common the aptitude for storytelling, the metaphorical and metamorphic vein, the oscillation between ordinary and extraordinary, rational and irrational. In the light of their intrinsic link, this volume aims to retrace the dreamlike imaginary of the Renaissance, starting from some representative texts. The literary function of the dream is investigated, both conceptually (think about the relation with utopia) and expressively (use of dreamlike pre-texts as narrative devices). The recognition of the prophetic value of the dream, typical of medieval Christian culture, is now replaced by its use as a means of legitimizing subversive ideological contents or as a vehicle for equally bold formal innovations, or as a true metaliterary artifice, through which the artist reflects on his own compositional ideals. The book is signed by a textual Appendix containing the commented edition of Lodovico Dolce’s Dream of Parnassus (1532). Another piece of this multifaceted dreamlike mosaic, the poem illustrates that relationship - characteristic of the Renaissance age - between pictura and pŏēsis that constitutes the Ariadne’s thread of this fascinating journey in the labyrinthine meanders of the dream
The paper aims to investigate, through the happy intuition of Sciascia's alphabetical order, the function carried out in his work by models, explicit or implicit sources and real tutelary deities. From Alfieri's A to Zola's Z it is easy to retrace the rich gallery of portraits of writers - housed on the first floor of the Sciascia Foundation - which constitutes a tribute to literature, Italian and foreign, from the eighteenth to the twentieth century, and together a review of the most important painters and engravers who entertained with the author deep ties of friendship, but above all they have intertwined in their work literature and art. In this visual story, a sort of illustrated encyclopedia, Sciascia writes his autobiography, his künstlerroman, marked not only by the triumph of writing, with its emblematic objects - the book, the paper, the pen, the inkwell, the pipe, the glasses – but also the graphic sign, with its transparent or encrypted symbols
Eugenio Montale. Morale meditativo moderno
Despite recent editorial and critical efforts, aimed at freeing the works of Nino Savarese (Enna, 1882 – Roma, 1945) from a series of reiterated and conventional formulas (fragmentist, rondist, regionalist taste), a definitive recognition of the gnoseological value of his research is lacking. The identification of some unpublished correspondence with the most illustrious intellectuals of the 20th century (Bacchelli, Bonsanti, Borgese, Cardarelli, Cecchi, Contini, Falqui, Gatto, Piovene, Rosso di San Secondo, Tozzi, Vigolo), preserved in the Municipal Library of Enna - some of which reproduced in the appendix to this contribution - allows us to illuminate his figure and opus, reconstructing some essential junctions of his artistic career and, above all, to grasp the complexity of his writing, a prose of moral invention which combines the allegories by Voltaire with Leopardi’s thought, the Sicilian myths with a metaphysical impulse
Scrittura come vendetta.
Doni in Parnaso. La visio in somniis come profezia metaletteraria
The present essay aims to investigate the narrative potentialities connected to
the dreamlike imagination, using as case-study some “letters-novels” by Anton
Francesco Doni, dating back to the ’40s of the sixteenth century. The writer uses
the visio in somniis for the creation of hybrid genres, such as the visionary novel
and the metafictional prophecy, drawing also ispiration from figurative arts. In
this dense intertextual plot we witness the rewriting of classical myths such as
the Mount Parnassus
