EUGEN SIMION: ESTUL ȘI VESTUL EUROPE – DIALOGUL NU S-A STINS
This interview, hitherto unknown in Romania, with the critic Eugen Simion was published under the title Еуђен Симион: Европски исток и запад – диалога није замро (translated by us: Eugen Simion – Eastern and Western Europe: the Dialogue did not Stop), in „Pechat” magazine, no. 395, 13.11.2015, pp. 50-53. We publish it for its documentary value. To our knowledge, the answers of the academician Eugen Simion have not been preserved in their original version, that is, in Romanian. In the pages of „R.I.T.L.” we offer, thanks to Marija Nanadić, a „translation of the translation” – a practice not recommended, but sometimes impossible to avoid. We would also like to thank Ms. Nataša Jovanović, the journalist who conducted the interview, and the Editor-in-Chief of „Pechat”, Ms. Ljiljana Bogdanović, for the kindness of offering this interview to the Romanian readers. Some answers have a contextual relevance, referring to the political and institutional state of affairs in Romania almost 10 years ago. Others have a more general character, illustrative of the interviewee’s intellectual choices and personality

Simion 3D Version 6.0 User`s Manual
The original SIMION was an electrostatic lens analysis and design program developed by D.C. McGilvery at Latrobe University, Bundoora Victoria, Australia, 1977. SIMION for the PC, developed at the Idaho National Engineering Laboratory, shares little more than its name with the original McGilvery version. INEL`s fifth major SIMION release, version 6.0, represents a quantum improvement over previous versions. This C based program can model complex problems using an ion optics workbench that can hold up to 200 2D and/or 3D electrostatic/magnetic potential arrays. Arrays can have up to 10,000,000 points. SIMION 3D`s 32 bit virtual Graphics User Interface provides a highly interactive advanced user environment. All potential arrays are visualized as 3D objects that the user can cut away to inspect ion trajectories and potential energy surfaces. User programs have been greatly extended in versatility and power. A new geometry file option supports the definition of highly complex array geometry. Extensive algorithm modifications have dramatically improved this version`s computational speed and accuracy

Design considerations on balanced CRLH single-ended dual-fed distributed amplifier
Single-ended dual-fed distributed amplifier (SEDFDA) based balanced amplifier is analyzed and the layout is designed. The gate and drain artificial lines are realized with Composite Right-/Left-Handed (CRLH) phase shifters, having convenient topology for transistor connection. The amplifier design takes into account the catalog S-parameters of the transistors

Distributed amplifier based broadband and low spurious frequency doubler
A circuit topology for a frequency doubler consisting of a distributed amplifier work-
ing under nonlinear regime is analyzed analytically and characterized experimentally. Fully-
distributed circuit topologies for the phase shifter used to realize the gate and drain artificial
transmission lines of the distributed amplifier are proposed. For these types of phase shifters,
it is shown that efficient rejection of the output odd harmonics is possible, but also low ripple
of the output power level on the output second harmonic is obtained. The proposed frequency
doubler has been designed for central input frequency equal to 5 GHz, and the designed cir-
cuit has been fabricated, too. The experimental conversion loss for the fabricated frequency
doubler is less than 4 dB and 7 dB, when the power level to the input is imposed to –1 dBm
and 5 dBm, respectively, while the input frequency is between 4 and 6 GHz
Experimental results obtained on a new circuit topology of a broadband and low spurious frequency doubler
A CRLH (Composite Right-/Left-Handed) based distributed frequency multiplier circuit topology is proposed. It is demonstrated that using fully-distributed CRLH based unit cells, low spurious output spectrum and flat output power level may be obtained for a large frequency bandwidth. To validate the proposed frequency multiplier, a frequency doubler is designed and fabricated. The experimental results have shown that the conversion losses on the output second harmonic is less than 9 dB and 7 dB, for input power level of -1 dBm and 5 dBm, respectively, within an input frequency bandwidth from 4 GHz to 6 GHz. In the same frequency bandwidth, due to the CRLH based circuit topology, the first and third output harmonics are well filtered
Management of the exposure of e-PTFE membranes in guided bone regeneration
Guided bone regeneration (GBR) has been used extensively since its introduction in the late 1980s. In such treatment, e-PTFE membranes are often preferred because of their inert biological features and the predictability of the barrier effect. One complication of GBR is the premature exposure of the membrane. A consequence of the resulting soft tissue dehiscence is compromised bone regeneration. There are situations in which an exposed membrane can be maintained and obtain satisfactory results. This article discusses suggested guidelines for the treatment of exposed e-PTFE membranes. Learning Objectives: This article discusses treatment options for e-PTFE membranes that are exposed with or without infection. Upon reading this article, the reader should: Be able to identify both Class I and Class II exposures. Understand how to properly treat both a Class I and Class II exposed e-PTFE membrane
CRLH unit cells - The key for new design methods of distributed active and passive microwave devices and circuits
Recent applications of CRLH unit cells
used to design distributed passive and active microwave
devices and circuits are presented. In particular, new
configurations for small-size passive devices based on
quarter-wavelength transmission line sections, as well as
microwave amplifiers, oscillators and frequency doublers
are analyzed. The performances of these new circuit
topologies are put into evidence numerically and the
results are validated by experiments
