Airflow patterns inside a short blind heading
No full textRozważa się proces przewietrzania krótkiego wyrobiska ślepego realizowany wyłącznie pod wpływem działania wentylatorów głównych. Analizowano obrazy pól prędkości w komorze przy różnych prędkościach przepływu w opływowym prądzie powietrza wynoszących od 0,65 m/s do 2,1 m/s. Obliczenia 3D pól prędkości wykonano przy użyciu metod CFD. Testowano dwa modele turbulencji: standardowy k- i RNG k- oraz dwa sposoby opisu warunków brzegowych: przy pomocy funkcji ściany oraz stosując dwuwarstwowy model warstwy przyściennej. Wyniki obliczeń numerycznych porównywano z pomiarami.Ventilation of short blind heading caused by through road air velocity is considered. A series of numerical tests was performed to determine the effect of different through air velocities on airflow patterns. The velocities ranged between 0,65 m/s and 2,1 m/s. 3D velocity fields was calculated using a finite-volume CFD computer code FLUENT 6.1. Two turbulence models (standard k- and RNG k-) as well as two near-wall models (wall function and enhanced wall treating) were tested. Numerical results were compared with experimental data

Ontological and orientational metaphors in Latin
No full textOntological and orientational metaphors arise from general cognitive processes and rely on our embodied experience of the physico-spatial world, providing us with image schemas that we commonly exploit in order to interpret and express abstract notions in terms of spatial configurations. This is particularly true in the case of emotions and feelings, which are much less clearly defined than our bodily functions. Indeed, recurrent embodied patterns building bridges between spatial orientations and feelings occur in a great variety of languages. It has long been noted, for instance, that the vertical axis up vs. down offers the basis for portraying many experiential metaphors in terms of ‘happy/positive is up’, ‘sad/negative is down’. This paper shows that both ontological and orientational metaphorization is largely attested in this domain of experience in Latin, and provides corpus-based evidence for frequency and productivity effects and cross-linguistic comparisons that testify how the human body is a universal cognitive key to interpret and categorize emotions in modern as well as in ancient languages

No full textWażnym czynnikiem rozwoju biotechnologii w Polsce są nowoczesne badania naukowe. Artykuł Perspektywy rozwoju biotechnologii w Polsce zwraca uwagę na to, że wiedza z zakresu nauk biologicznych i medycznych przyczynia się do większej konkurencyjności zarówno ośrodków naukowych i badawczych, jak i przedsiębiorstw. Biotechnologiczne projekty naukowo–badawcze realizowane w Polsce nie tworzą jeszcze podstaw do wytwarzania produktów biotechnologicznych w takim zakresie, by polskie przedsiębiorstwa mogły konkurować na rynku międzynarodowych. Jedną z przyczyn, którą analizuje Autor w artykule, jest niewystarczające inwestowanie w rozwój nauki i wsparcie dla małych i średnich firm w sektorze biotechnologii. MSP są najważniejszym elementem rozwoju tego sektora, ponieważ koncentrują się na tworzeniu i rozwoju nowoczesnych produktów biotechnologicznych. Artykuł został podzielony na dwie części: Szanse rozwoju nowoczesnej gospodarki w Polsce bez biotechnologii oraz Edukacja i projekty B+R. Autor finalizuje rozważania, pokazując pozytywny scenariusz dla rozwoju sektora biotechnologicznego w Polsce.Biotechnology uses biological processes in the development of technology or manufacture of a product. It is forecasted that Polish biotechnology industry will exceed very quickly. The technology and science parks in Poland have invested millions Euros to build new laboratories. Polish market is fuelled by increased R&D funding, central and regional governments initiatives. The article on “Polish perspectives of biotechnology development” identifies significant factors for biotechnology project development. It also indicates the examples of government biotechnology initiatives in the world. The author focuses on the statistical analysis of the research and development projects conducted by Polish scientist in scientific laboratories.
