On the decay of solutions to the 2D Neumann exterior problem for the wave equation

    No full text
AbstractWe consider the exterior problem in the plane for the wave equation with a Neumann boundary condition and study the asymptotic behavior of the solution for large times. For possible application we are interested to show a decay estimate which does not involve weighted norms of the initial data. In the paper we prove such an estimate, by a combination of the estimate of the local energy decay and decay estimates for the free space solution

Incidence of stroke in Shibata, Japan: 1976-1978.

    No full text
A stroke registry was established in Shibata City, Niigata Prefecture, Japan (population 75,000) in 1976. WHO recommendations for criteria were followed. This paper reports stroke incidence for the initial 3 years of the registry: 1976 through 1978. All living patients were examined clinically by a staff physician. Only patients with a diagnosis of first stroke were included in the study. Sensitivity of the referral system was estimated at 85 + %, comparable to that in American studies. Average annual incidence per 1,000 in resident greater than or equal to 20 years was 2.61 for all strokes (3.42 for males; 1.88 for females), 0.20 for subarachnoid hemorrhage, 0.61 for cerebral hemorrhage, 1.51 for cerebral infarction - rates similar to those reported 10-20 years previously for the United States. The male-female ratio, 2:1, reflected a high rate among males, low among females. Rats among Shibata males were higher than 1972 U.S. rates reported by the Epidemiologic Study Group; rates among Shibata females were lower than corresponding U.S. rates. Incidence of all strokes combined increased with age, the age relationship being strongest for cerebral infarction. No subarachnoid hemorrhage was observed in Shibata residents greater than or equal to 70 years of age.</jats:p

Report on Ordering Key DS CE

    No full text
In this document, we report the result of our core experiment on the Ordering Key DS. In the last meeting a decision is made to specialize the Weight DS [m6227] in a new DS in order to achieve ordering functionalities. This new DS is the Ordering Key DS which indicates which descriptors can be used in order to obtain an ordering of generic DSs (Segment, Concept, Object, Event). The main objectives of this CE are: an improvement of the syntax which is currently part of the XM document; to clarify explicitly the semantics of this DS so that users can understand what they should obey in their application; to demonstrate the benefit to have such component for ordering purposes

Naddia taiwanensis can be easily distinguished from other members of Naddia Fauvel, 1867 in Taiwan by its elytra, which are entirely covered with orange-red pubescence. Bionomics. Many specimens of N. taiwanensis were collected by Malaise trap from middle elevation mountainous forests. Shibata (1979) reported the types series of N. taiwanensis were collected under a dead tree or from fallen leaves on the forest ground. Distribution. Naddia taiwanensis is only known from Taiwan but is widespread on the island. The species is at present known from Nantou County, New Taipei City, Pingtung County, Taipei City, and Taoyuan City (Shibata, 1979, this study), and is presumably distributed in mountainous areas of the entire island.Published as part of Hu, Fang-Shuo, 2020, New distributional records of Staphylinina in Taiwan, including a new species of Miobdelus Sharp (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae: Staphylininae: Staphylinini), pp. 334-360 in Zootaxa 4768 (3) on page 344, DOI: 10.11646/zootaxa.4768.3.2, http://zenodo.org/record/378403

Thoracostrongylus formosanus can be distinguished from T. miyakei from Taiwan by the absence of a reddish reflection on the surface of head, pronotum and elytra, relatively smaller eyes and wider elytra. Bionomics. Based on an import of locality name into Google Earth from collection data (Shibata 1982, Yang et al. 2011, this study), the distributional altitude of this species in Taiwan is from 700–2600 m. Specimens of T. formosanus were mainly collected by pitfall trap or flight interception trap. Some specimens were collected from the surface of fresh mammal dung or carrion. Distribution. Thoracostrongylus formosanus is known from mainland China (Sichuan, Zhejiang, Hunan, Fujian and Hubei) and Taiwan. The species is widespread on Taiwan island and is at present known from Hualien County, Nantou County, Taichung City and Yilan County (Shibata 1982, Yang et al. 2011, this study).Published as part of Hu, Fang-Shuo, 2020, New distributional records of Staphylinina in Taiwan, including a new species of Miobdelus Sharp (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae: Staphylininae: Staphylinini), pp. 334-360 in Zootaxa 4768 (3) on pages 348-349, DOI: 10.11646/zootaxa.4768.3.2, http://zenodo.org/record/378403

Proposals for OrderingKey DS instantiation in MPEG-7 description

    No full text
This document identifies some solutions to the problem stated in the Editor’s Note in clause 7.7.1.1 of the MDS Study of CD, document ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 29/WG 11/N3816. Therefore this document is intended as a contribution to the MDS group. Presently there is no way to instantiate an Ordering Key DS within a “valid” MPEG-7 description. To solve this problem three proposals are here considered and their respective implication are discussed. The first proposal is to derive the OrderingKeyType as an extension of the HeaderType allowing the instantiation, at the header level, of any MPEG-7 Complete/Unit Description and DSType instances. The second solution is to include the OrderingKey DS as a component of the BasicDescriptionType. This allows to apply the ordering tool only in an MPEG-7 Complete Description, but no Unit Description. The third solution is to adopt both the first and second proposals. In Section 2 the three solutions are detailed and the required modification in terms of syntax and usage are discussed. In Section 3 the three solutions are compared
