    Pseudo dampers for squeal mitigation

Brake squeal problem is an issue that all the companies, producing automotive brakes, have to deal with. Despite over a century of research on this topic, an effective solution for squeal suppression has not yet been achieved, even if the physics behind squeal is nowadays quite well understood. In fact, there is agreement in the scientific community that squeal is mainly caused by an unstable coupling between modes of the brake rotor with modes of the pads. However, the complexity of a commercial brake represents a hard obstacle to study and design an effective solution to this problem. For this reason several researchers focused their study on more simple systems that exhibit the same instability mechanism, such as the beam on disk. This paper proposes a numerical study on an innovative and non-conventional passive damper, based on the theory of pseudo damping, that is able to completely suppress squeal occurrence on the beam on disk set-up
