[Letter to Henry Senger.]
138 Sierra Club Bulletin PLATE CLVI. Prof. Henry Senger, San F^ncisco, Jan. 14,1892. Dear Sir: Your favor of the nth was not received until yesterday. I should be pleased to confer with you in regard to the forming of a Sierra Club. Don\u27t know that I could take an active part, but should be pleased to be present at the birth of the Club. Truly yours, Warren Olney On Saturday, January 16, Professor Senger called at Mr. 01- ney\u27s office and the matter was discussed, this being the first of several such informal discussions. Finally it was decided to call a meeting of interested persons for purposes of organization. The following letter from John Muir, dated May 10, 1892, and reproduced in Plate clvi, is the earliest I have been able to find from him bearing on this subject: Mr. Henry Senger, Martinez, May 10,1892. Dear Sir: I am greatly interested in the formation of an Alpine Club, and think with you and Mr. Olney that the time has come when such a club should be organized. You may count on me as a member and as willing to do all in my power to further the interests of such a club. I shall be glad to see you at my house near Martinez, or to meet you in the city. Mr. Armes of the State University is also interested in the organization of such a club, and I advise you to correspond with him. Yours truly, John Muir Shortly afterward came a second letter from Mr. Muir, which was as follows: Prof. Senger, Martinez, May 22. Dear Sir: I will gladly attend the meeting on Saturday next at Mr. Olney\u27s office. I suppose it will not be best to have a large number present at the first meeting. I should like to have Mr. Thos. Magee invited as likely to prove useful and Mr. Pelham Ames. Hoping that we will be able to do something for wildness and make the mountains glad, I remain Cordially yours, John Muir This mentions a meeting to be called on Saturday next, which was Saturday, May 28, one week before the articles of incor-https://scholarlycommons.pacific.edu/jmb/1394/thumbnail.jp

Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Insights on memristor modeling
This work sheds some light into the crucial discussion over which memristor model should be adopted in the design of memristor-based electronic circuits. In a first study, taking the Pickett's model as reference, for a documented circuit and input setting some of the most acknowledged memristor models are fitted to it by means of an optimization procedure. The second study shows how the dynamics of basic memristor circuits may strongly depend on the memristor model under use. The development of a more universal memristor model is thus necessary for the progress of memristor-based IC design. Here we present some preliminary result on a new modeling approach based on polynomial series expansion. © 2013 TU Dresden
The Diophantine problem in Thompson's group F
We show that the Diophantine problem in Thompson's group F is undecidable. Our proof uses the facts that F has finite commutator width and rank 2 abelianisation, then uses similar arguments used by B\"uchi and Senger and Ciobanu and Garreta to show the Diophantine problem in free groups and monoids with abelianisation constraints is undecidable

Also By The Same Author: AKTiveAuthor, a Citation Graph Approach to Name Disambiguation
The desire for definitive data and the semantic web drive for inference over heterogeneous data sources requires co-reference resolution to be performed on those data. In particular, name disambiguation is required to allow accurate publication lists, citation counts and impact measures to be determined. This paper describes a graph-based approach to author disambiguation on large-scale citation networks. Using self-citation, co-authorship and document source analyses, AKTiveAuthor clusters papers, achieving precision of 0.997 and recall of 0.818 over a test group of eight surname clusters
