Can lactate levels and vasopressors use predict outcome in out-of-hospital cardiac arrest survivors?
The lactate concentration at admission after OHCA was not correlated
to the duration of ischemia but was associated with severe neurological impairment. However, this parameter showed a poor prognostic value for individual prognostication of brain injury, as
only a very high cut-off of lactate (16.3 mmol/L) could adequately predict an unfavorable neurological status after arrest. Lactate levels on arrival were independent prognostic factors for OHCA,
in association with ammonia levels. Also, persisting
hyperlactatemia (>2 mmol/L) over 48 hours after CA independently predicted a poor prognosis in this population
