Community Knowledge About the Use, Reuse, Disinfection and Disposal of Masks and Filtering Facepiece Respirators: Results of a Study Conducted in a Dermatology Clinic at the University of Naples in Italy
In Italy, as well as in almost all countries, the use of masks in public with several other measures has been an important health measure during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The correct use of masks is essential, as a wrong use and disposal may increase the rate of contagious. Herein, we report a descriptive study evaluating the knowledge and use, reuse and disposal of masks in community settings. An anonymous questionnaire called MaSK (Mask uSe and Knowledge) questionnaire was developed and offered to patients referring at our dermatologic outpatient clinic. A total of 2562 full complete patients’ questionnaires were considered for the study. Our results showed that awareness and information campaigns aimed at the general population are urgently needed in order to implement a correct use of masks and limit as much as possible the infection rate
Sonidegib: Safety and Efficacy in Treatment of Advanced Basal Cell Carcinoma
Hedgehog inhibitors are promising alternative treatments for patients with advanced basal cell carcinomas. Sonidegib (Odomzo®), an oral smoothened (SMO) antagonist, is indicated for the treatment of adult patients with locally advanced basal cell carcinoma (laBCC) who present recurrence following surgery or radiation therapy, or those who are not candidates for surgery or radiotherapy. Several studies and randomized controlled trials have been conducted to evaluate the efficacy, safety, and tolerability of this new molecule that has demonstrated a good response rate (44%). Grade 1–2 adverse events have also been reported. Further studies of real-world experiences are needed to better understand the correct management of the drug, alternative dosing regimens, and differences with other hedgehog inhibitors. This article provides a complete overview of the pharmacology and pharmacokinetics of sonidegib and a report of the trials and studies conducted. The most frequent adverse events and their correct management are also discussed

New Emerging Treatment Options for Advanced Basal Cell Carcinoma and Squamous Cell Carcinoma
Non-melanoma skin cancers, also known as keratinocyte tumors, have an increasing incidence worldwide, with basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma being the most represented ones. Although surgery represents the gold-standard treatment for both tumors, some cases can progress to an advanced or a metastatic state and targeted therapy is required. Hedgehog signaling pathway has an important role in the development of basal cell carcinoma, and its inhibition is the key to new treatment options available for the treatment of locally advanced and metastatic basal cell carcinoma. Cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma is the second most frequent malignant skin cancer; when presenting in advanced or metastatic stage, alternative treatments are required; cemiplimab is a human monoclonal antibody directed against programmed cell death-1 receptor that acts by blocking T-cell inactivation and is the first drug approved for the treatment of adult patients with metastatic or locally advanced cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma. Studies evaluating pembrolizumab, ipilimumab and nivolumab as alternative treatments for advanced squamous cell carcinoma are still underway. Objective of this review is to analyze and discuss the novel therapies for advanced basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma to obtain a sharper perspective of the available treatment options
