Le trasformazioni del denaro: Simmel e le sfide future

    No full text

Money has always been plural and, complice the Cambrian explosion of technological solutions, is undergoing a full-fledged process of differentiation. Orthodox positions in economic theory simply do not question its neutrality, one of the key assumptions in the economic theory of money, while heterodox economics and sociology have a solid arsenal at their disposal to better cope with the reality about money revealed by the crisis, which is simply ignored. Stemming from the traditional triad of money’s functions (means of exchange, unit of account and store of value), we recall some highlights of orthodox, heterodox and sociological theories to display the rich tools available to study the most recent relevant case studies that we classify as complementary or crypto currencies along with new monetary innovations so far known as Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) and Corporate Digital Currency (CDC). The empirical variety testifies that money is not a neutral veil over economic processes, but it is a political and social construction serving a spectrum of purposes through specific monetary architectures. Different schemes allow for better or worse forms of money that reveal the true nature of money as a social relation between a creditor and a debtor, deep-rooted in an underlying community. Whether complementary or crypto, publicly or privately digital, the discussed new forms of money bear witness of a lively process of differentiation that reopens a long-lived debate about the future of money

Zoledronic acid for the treatment of pregnancy-associated femoral head necrosis: A case report

Introduction: The management of pregnancy-associated femoral necrosis is controversial. Conservative management may eventually lead to hip replacement. Case: A 40-year-old woman developed necrosis of the left hip during her first pregnancy. Treatment with zoledronic acid three months after delivery resulted in rapid reduction of the necrotic area. The patient's second pregnancy shortly afterwards had no complications. A magnetic resonance scan three years later documented complete resolution. Conclusion: Femoral head necrosis should be suspected in the differential diagnosis of pain in pregnancy. Zoledronic acid given in the early stages prevented progression to hip arthritis in this case

Quale genere di astensionismo? La partecipazione elettorale delle donne in Italia nel periodo 1948-2018

In the study of voter turnout, a gender perspective is useful in many ways. Since in Italy women gained the right to vote relatively late (only in 1946), a gender gap perspective is utmost handy to grasp why women had an immediate and massive participation over the First Republic. It is also relevant for understanding why their institutional representation comparatively still scores low and why women still do not bear a grounded interest for politics. Previous research explains this anomalous behav- iour (high turnout coupled with low institutional presence and interest) through the overwhelming social conformism in the Fi ies and Sixties as an output of a stark con- trast between mass parties, Catholic in uence and deep social peer pressure. In the Second Republic, the explanation for the rise of female abstention is related to both the secularization of social and family behaviours and a general disa ection towards poli- tics. is article outlines a long-term read of gender gap in the political turnout (1948- 2018) through the aid of two sections (one pointing out the initial characteristics for a strong mobilization of female voters and another pinpointing the reverse phenomenon in the last 30 years). We then o er some points for discussion about attributed mean- ings, working from within inequalities and possible future e ective policies to contain and reduce the gender gap in political turnout

Different Strategies to Alleviate Soil Compaction Risk During Tillage Operations

    No full text
Compaction causes soil degradation, but different strategies can help to mitigate this phenomenon, such as increasing soil strength under traffic and decreasing soil stress due to equipment features. Controlled traffic farming enhances soil compaction mitigation by confining all equipment transit to the traffic lane. Crop seedbeds remain undisturbed, improving crop performance and increasing yield. Controlled traffic needs equipment standardization for all operations, from tillage to harvest, which can overcomplicate equipment travel on public roads and use of contractors. This study investigates three strategies to alleviate soil compaction risk during tillage: Random traffic with tracks, with wheels and controlled traffic farming. Three scenarios were compared by using the following traffic indexes: Rut Length, Traffic Intensity, Mechanization Degree, and Field Load Index. Soil stresses in specific scenarios were calculated with the Terranimo® model. Collecting soil bulk density, penetrometer resistance, working time analysis, field traffic analysis and fuel consumption with telemetry was completed on a real scale thanks to a 19 ha field test on a farm in northeast Italy. The soil stress is higher in the Controlled traffic than in the other two random traffic scenarios due to the narrow width of the wheels used to decrease the trafficked area. The field index Ruth Length shows a higher value in CT caused by a lower working width. On Mechanization Degree the RT scenario has a 47% increase compared to CT and 21% more than RW due to the high power used. Lower bulk density and Cone Index were found in CT seedbed. CT shows a decrease in fuel consumption and CO2 emission due to higher traction efficiency
