Haematologica. 2008 Mar;93(3):479-80. Thrombophilia as a predictor of persistent residual vein thrombosis. Spiezia L, Tormene D, Pesavento R, Salmaso L, Simioni P, Prandoni P. To compare the probability of leg vein recanalization between carriers and non-carriers of thrombophilia after an episode of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) of the lower extremities, we reviewed the clinical records of 472 patients with proximal DVT who were diagnosed with thrombophilia, and had long-term ultrasound scanning. One hundred and thirty-seven patients (29.0%) were carriers of thrombophilia. After adjusting for age, sex, DVT localization and modality of presentation, the hazard ratio of vein recanalization in thrombophilic compared with non-thrombophilic patients was 0.49 (95% CI, 0.38 to 0.63). These findings suggest that thrombophilia is an independent predictor of persistent residual vein thrombosis. PMID: 18310547 [PubMed - indexed for MEDLINE

Multivariate Bi-Aspect Testing for the Two-Sample Location Problem

    No full text
The multivariate extension of the bi-aspect nonparametric testing procedure for the two-sample location problem presented in Marozzi (2004) is discussed. Two solutions are presented: the former is focused on each variable, the latter is focused on each of the two aspects involved in the bi-aspect (the categorical and the numerical one). Formal proofs of exactness, unbiasedness, and consistency of the multivariate tests are given. Such properties hold even when population first and second moments do not exist

Comparative evaluation of external effectiveness of two university faculties through nonparametric heterogeneity tests

    No full text
In some University evaluation problems it can be useful to establish if a categorical variable is more concentrated in a population rather than in another one. For instance the so-called “external effectiveness” of two different Faculties can be evaluated comparing the heterogeneities of the sets of job opportunities. Faculties which offer a more heterogeneous set of job opportunities can be considered more effective. In the present work we propose a nonparametric heterogeneity test, whose test statictic is based on the difference of two sampling heterogeneity indexes

    Coltivazioni, allevamenti e aziende agricole

    No full text

Repeated Measures Designs: a Permutation Approach for Testing for Active Effects

    No full text
In this paper we present some extensions of the synchronized permutation solution for testing for active effects in two-way ANOVA designs (F. Pesarin [Multivariate Permutation Tests with Applications in Biostatistics, John Wiley, Chichester, 2001] and L. Salmaso [Comm. Statist. Theory Methods 32 (2003), 1419-1437]). Such solutions are related to balanced and unbalanced repeated measures designs based on I*J ANOVA designs. Furthermore a simulation study to evaluate the performance of partial tests for testing for effects in a 3*3 design is also presented
