    The features of athletic competence of students are considered. Its influence is rotined on forming and opening out of athletic activity. A questionnaire is conducted 650 students. It is set that existent knowledges of students are not sufficient foundation for an origin, opening out and perfection of athletic activity. It is set that in the structure of knowledges prevail taking about harm of the use of alcohol, smoking. It is set that the way of life corresponds the criteria of presence of valuable athletic activity just 7,54% polled students of the first and fourth courses. The insufficient level of knowledges on concrete practical questions in area of physical culture and healthy method of life is marked.     It is shown that practice of teaching of discipline «Physical education» does not provide forming of volume of abilities, sufficient for the origin of athletic activity. Prevail ability to pick up a place, sporting form, inventory depending on the type of physical exercises and ability on the observance of rules of the personal hygiene. In the questionnaire questioning 650 students (324 youths and 326 girls of the first and fourth courses) took part. All of students visited employments on physical education at school and institute of higher. It is marked that the important task of amateurish athletic education is forming for the students of the personal experience of independent athletic, health and рекреационных employments. It is underlined that sense of amateurish athletic education of students consists in achievement by a man unity of mental and activity processes. It is set that only 7,54% students can fully complete confidence to characterize the phenomenon of athletic activity. It is marked that by most popularity about 55 % students use medicine, alcohol, smoking, restorative preparations. The high level of knowledge of students is marked about the influence of smoking, alcohol, drugs on the organism of a man. It is set that less than 45 % students for the improvement of the psychophysical state are utillized by various athletic-health-improvement facilities and methods (physical exercises, trainers, self-massage, sauna, walks, diet)
