The repeated usage of chemical insecticides, responsible for insecticide resistance in mosquitoes and environ- mental toxicity. Currently e#ective and environmental-safe control strategies are needed for the control disease- vector mosquitoes. Entomopathogens can be an e#ective alternative to chemical insecticide. Herein we isolated and tested 46 soil-borne entomopathogenic fungi belonging to six genera, namely Beauveria sp., Metarhizium sp., Fusarium sp., Aspergillus sp., Trichoderma sp., and Verticillium sp., fungi conidia were tested on Aedes aegypti, Anopheles stephensi and Culex quinquefasciatus larvae. Bioassays results show that M. anisopliae fungal isolate causes a 100%, 98.6% and 92% mortality within six days, on Aedes aegypti, Anopheles stephensi and Culex quinquefasciatus, respectively. M. anisopliae treated three mosquito larvae have lower lifetime with LT50 values in A. stephensi, 2.931 days; A. aegypti, 2.676 days and C. quinquefasciatus, 3.254 days. 18 s rDNA sequence analysis con!rmed that the isolated fungus are belonging to the genus of M. anisopliae-VKKH3, B. bassiana-VKBb03, and V. lecanii-VKPH1. Our results clearly show that M. anisopliae has good potential, as a low-cost, environmentally safe tool for the control of A. aegypti, A. stephensi, and C. quinquefasciatus mosquitoes

Image Retrieval for Minority Costume by using Color Histogram and Edge orientation EO Histogram Technique

    No full text
It is very significant to know the different minority costumes which are vanishing now a day which is used for minority culture protection and inheritance. To get the exact results for image retrieval there is need of a novel image feature representation method which is used to show the rich information of minority costume image. In this implementation first image is divided into image sub blocks and then from that image calculate both color histogram as well as edge orientation histogram separately. The final feature used for minority costume image retrieval is fusion or integration of both color histogram and edge orientation histogram. At last improved Canberra distance is calculated for the input query image and retrieved output image. For the performance analysis there is use of self build minority costume image dataset. MATLAB analysis results show that integrated technique of image retrieval will give outperforming results for characteristics such as color, texture, shape and spatial information, in comparison to existing technique proposed work will give higher and stable retrieval accuracy. p38 MAPK regulates G1-S transition in hypoxic cardiac fibroblasts

Cardiac fibroblast hyperplasia associated with augmented matrix production is central to wound healing following myocardial injury. Regulation of the cardiac fibroblast cell cycle by factors in the diseased myocardium that can potentially modify the hyperplastic response of cardiac fibroblasts has, however, not been investigated. We examined the regulation of the cardiac fibroblast cell cycle by hypoxia, a major constituent of myocardial ischemia. Significant reductions in DNA synthesis and cell number, and flow cytometry indicated decreased G1/S progression in hypoxic adult rat cardiac fibroblasts. Western blot analysis showed reduced levels of cyclin D and cyclin A, induction of p27 and hypophosphorylation of Rb under hypoxia. Skp2, which targets p27 for degradation, was significantly lower and inversely related to p27 protein levels in hypoxic cells. Marked p38 MAPK activation was observed under hypoxia and its inhibition using SB203580 reversed the effects of hypoxia on DNA synthesis, cell cycle phase distribution, p27, and cyclin D1 but not cyclin A. Interestingly, a 2-fold increase in p27 mRNA in hypoxic cells, demonstrated by real-time PCR, was unaffected by SB203580, which, however, reversed the hypoxic inhibition of Skp2. In summary, p38 MAPK is an important determinant of hypoxia-induced G0/G1 block in cardiac fibroblasts. p27 induction in hypoxic cardiac fibroblasts may involve direct transcriptional regulation, independent of p38 MAPK, and post-translational regulation via p38 MAPK-dependent suppression of its degradation by Skp2. The study identifies Skp2 as a potential downstream target of p38 MAPK, suggesting a novel mechanism of G1-S regulation in cardiac fibroblasts exposed to stress conditions. (C) 2011 Elsevier Ltd. A note on strongly sum difference quotient graphs

    No full text
Recently, Adiga and Shivakumar Swamy 1 have introduced the concept of strongly sum difference quotient (SSDQ) graphs and shown that all graphs such as cycles, flowers and wheels are SSDQ graphs. They have also derived an explicit formula for α(n); the maximum number of edges in a SSDQ graphs of order n in terms of Eulers phi function. In this paper, we show that much studied families of graphs such as Mycielskian of the path Pn and the cycle Cn; Cn Pn; double triangular snake graphs and total graph of Cn are strongly sum difference quotient graphs

    Dental caries vaccine

Dental caries is one of the most common diseases in humans. In modern times, it has reached epidemic proportions. Dental caries is an infectious microbiologic disease of the teeth that results in localized dissolution and destruction of the calcified tissue. Dental caries is a mulitifactorial disease, which is caused by host, agent, and environmental factors. The time factor is important for the development and progression of dental caries. A wide group of microorganisms are identified from carious lesions of which S. mutans , Lactobacillus acidophilus , and Actinomyces viscosus are the main pathogenic species involved in the initiation and development of dental caries. In India, surveys done on school children showed caries prevalence of approximately 58%. Surveys among the U.S. population showed an incidence of 45.3% in children and 93.8% in adults with either past or present coronal caries. Huge amounts of money and time are spent in treating dental caries. Hence, the prevention and control of dental caries is the main aim of public health, eventually the ultimate objective of public health is the elimination of the disease itself. Recently, dental caries vaccines have been developed for the prevention of dental caries. These dental caries vaccines are still in the early stages

    Krein's method in inverse scattering

    No full text
A detailed discussion of the Krein’s results (applicable for solving the inverse scattering problem) is given with complete proofs. It is shown that the S-function S(k) used in Krein’s work is the S-matrix used in physics. The basic new results of the paper include the detailed description and analysis of an inversion algorithm based on Krein’s results and a proof of its consistency, that is the proof that the reconstructed potential generates the same scattering data from which it was reconstructed. Numerical advantages of using Krein’s method are discussed
