The Impact of Human Resource Management Policies on Business and Marketing Strategy Implementation within the Marketing Organization
VARADARAJ, A., PRASANNA MOHAN RAJ, M., ANANTH, S. The Impact of Human Resource Management Policies on Business and Marketing Strategy Implementation within the Marketing Organization. In: Eastern European Journal of Regional Studies. December 2021, vol. 7, issue 2, pp. 182-207. ISSN 2537-6179, E-ISSN 1857-436X.During the last three decades, significant research has been undertaken on the characteristics and relationships of the marketing organization with the implementation of strategies. These are the structure, culture, processes, and influence and leadership characteristics of the marketing institution. However, there has been little attention given to the human resources management policies of the marketing staff. These policies are one of the strongest sensations of people and organizations, when properly implemented, to conduct themselves correctly. In this study, we show that mid-level marketer implementation of HR policies differ substantially in the type of marketing strategy adopted by the companies. Companies with aligned enterprise and marketing strategies have achieved considerably stronger performance than companies with unequalled business and marketing strategies. JEL: M10. Belonging and not belonging : understanding India in novels by Paul Scott, Ruth Prawer Jhabvala and V.S. Naipaul.
PhDThis thesis is essentially about the "how" and "why" of the Indian
experience as documented in novels by Paul Scott, Ruth Prawer Jhabvala
and V S Naipaul. The study points to the difficulty of arriving at any
conclusive definition of the country and its people. I show that
differences in attitudes, responses or behaviour are both overt and
subtle, and depend upon whether the writer or the character identifies
with the situation or community with which he or she interacts. It is
the individual's sense of belonging or not belonging to his or her own
group - be this along racial, cultural or gender lines - that accounts
for the differing perspectives evident in these novels. The points-of-
view of the outsider and the insider can therefore be seen as
mutual comments upon the other.
Since the struggle between belonging and not belonging becomes acute
when the old meets the new, focus is centred on communities
experiencing change. These include the British in India, West-Indian
Indians and westernised Indians. Despite their differences, all three
communities share similar reasons for either an acceptance or
rejection of the 'Other'. The thesis argues that the need for
emotional stability compels allegiance to the traditional group, while
the desire for individuality encourages surrender to the new. The
former nurtures a sense of belonging while, it is argued, that the
latter is perceived as the hallmark of those who do not belong.
Tensions arise when both these needs demand to be met. What I show to
be ironic in this struggle between belonging and not belonging is that
those things which individuals overtly reject are often unexpressed
parts of their personal pysche. The barrier between "them" and "us" is
therefore very fragile

Indian English literature is the Cinderella of literature in English. Indian drama in English is the Cinderella of Indian English literature. A recent bibliography of Indian writing in English1 lists as many as separate titles under poetry, under fiction and a partly under drama. The bibliography of Indian drama in English appended to Perspectives on Indian Drama in English . Actually of these three forms, poetry and drama began their careers around the same time, with Henry Derozio?s Poems (1827) and Krishna Mohan Banerji?s, The Persecuted (1831) respectively, while the first Indian English novel - Bankim Chandra Chatterji?s Raj Mohan?s Wife appeared only in 1864. Since then, the ?pocket theatre? has clearly left the theatre far behind in the development of Indian writing in English. Fiction has already produced masterpieces like Untouchable, The Serpent and The Rope and The Guide. Indian drama in English was unable to grow similarly and bear rich fruit
Bad Rap: Examining the Role of African American Males in Popular Music
The purpose of this study is to investigate the claims made by popular media and public figures regarding rap music and its potential to adversely socialize Americans—particularly young adults and children—and show that other genres of music also contain potentially harmful lyrics. It is believed that rap is unfairly singled out by the media and public figures because it is a minority art form. One highly criticized area of rap music, the denigration of women in lyrics, was used as a measuring stick to judge rap against other forms of music to see if the criticisms of rap are justified. It was expected that the study would find no difference between rap and other forms of music and that other genres would also contain negative images of women within the lyrics. The study used the Billboard Hot 100 charts as a guide for selecting songs for the study. The top 50 songs from 1980-2005, taken in 5 year increments, were used for the study. 300 songs were selected in all. The lyrics were then obtained from a peer-reviewed lyrics website and analyzed by the study to see if the song contained one or more negative images of women within the lyrics. A bivariate analysis, using Chi-square, was conducted to see if any significant relationships existed between the independent variables, gender of the performer(s), race and genre of music, and the dependent variable, negative images of women existed.
Mixed results were obtained with regards to the hypothesis. Other genres of music did contain a significant number of derogatory lyrics; however, the genres with the highest number of negative images were also the three genres that contained the highest concentrations of African American males. Therefore, it was determined that race does play a role in terms of
portraying women negatively in popular music. It is further postulated that due to adverse economic conditions within the African American community, the deterioration of the African American family, and on-going tensions between African American males and females contribute to this defamation of women in popular music. Since music can be an agent of socialization, it is further postulated that these derogatory songs can influence the minds of not just African Americans, but all Americans, thus exacerbating racial and sexual tensions in the United States, thus creating a never-ending, vicious cycle for African Americans that keeps them subjugated and dominated by the majority culture of America
