    Predicting Long-Term Effects of Infrastructure Development Projects in Continental South East Asia: IDE Geographical Simulation Model

    It is important to develop a rigorous economic geography model for predicting changes in the location of population and industries across regions in the process of economic integration. The IDE Geographical Simulation Model (IDE-GSM) has been developed for two major objectives: (1) to determine the dynamics of locations of population and industries in East Asia in the long term, and (2) to analyze the impact of specific infrastructure projects on the regional economy at sub-national levels. The basic structure of the IDE-GSM is introduced in this article and accompanied with results of test analyses on the effects of the East West Economic Corridor on regions in Continental South East Asia. Results indicate that border costs appear to play a big role in the location choice of populations and industries, often a more important role than physical infrastructures themselves.Economic geography; Infrastructure development; Custom clearance

    Concepts of efficiency for uncertain multi-objective optimization problems based on set order relations

    In this paper we present new concepts of efficiency for uncertain multi-objective optimization problems. We analyze the connection between the concept of minmax robust efficiency presented by Ehrgott et al. (Eur J Oper Res, 2014, doi:10.1016/j.ejor.2014.03.013) and the upper set less order relation <=(u)(s) introduced by Kuroiwa (1998, 1999). From this connection we derive new concepts of efficiency for uncertain multi-objective optimization problems by replacing the set ordering with other set orderings. Those are namely the lower set less ordering (see Kuroiwa 1998, 1999), the set less ordering (see Nishnianidze in Soobshch Akad Nauk Gruzin SSR 114(3):489-491, 1984; Young in Math Ann 104(1):260-290, 1931, doi:10.1007/BF01457934; Eichfelder and Jahn in Vector Optimization. Springer, Berlin, 2012), the certainly less ordering (see Eichfelder and Jahn in Vector Optimization. Springer, Berlin, 2012), and the alternative set less ordering (see Ide et al. in Fixed Point Theory Appl, 2014, doi:10.1186/1687-1812-2014-83; Kobis 2014). We analyze the resulting concepts of efficiency and present numerical results on the occurrence of the various concepts.     Supporting Developers’ Coordination in The IDE

    Teamwork in software engineering is time-consuming and problematic. In this paper, we explore how to better support developers’ collaboration in teamwork, focusing on the software implementation phase happening in the integrated development environment (IDE). Conducting a qualitative investigation, we learn that developers’ teamwork needs mostly regard coordination, rather than concurrent work on the same (sub)task, and that developers successfully deal with scenarios considered problematic in literature, but they have problems dealing with breaking changes made by peers on the same project. We derive implications and recommendations. Based on one of the latter, we analyze the current IDE support for receiving code changes, finding that historical information is neither visible nor easily accessible.     Adinda: A knowledgeable, browser-based IDE

    In practice, many people have to work together to develop and maintain a software system. However, the programmer’s key tool, the Integrated Development Environment (IDE), is a solo-tool, serving to help individual programmers understand and modify the system. Such an IDE does not leverage the knowledge other team members may have of the design and implementation of the system. We propose to resolve this problem by exploring, experimentally, new ways of inferring knowledge from past IDE-interactions, and of maximizing collaboration among developers. Our approach, called ADINDA, revolves around transforming the IDE into a set of integrated services, accessible via a web browser, and enriched with Web 2.0 technologies. Such services will not only help developers perform traditional IDE tasks, but also facilitate the required informal communication and collaboration needs of software development projects. In this paper, we report on our vision, approach and challenges for building ADINDA, and initial results.
