and Ishimoto (5) it was proved that a propositional fragment of Lesniewski's ontology is embedded in first-order predicate logic with equality via a translation. (See also Shimizu and Kagiwada (12).) Now, in this paper a much simpler proof will be given o

Excellent mechanical and corrosion properties of austenitic stainless steel with a unique crystallographic lamellar microstructure via selective laser melting. Scripta Materialia, 159, 89. https://doi.org/10.1016/j.scriptamat.2018.09.017.We first developed a unique “crystallographic lamellar microstructure” (CLM), in which two differently oriented grains appear alternately, in a 316L stainless steel specimen via selective laser melting technology. The CLM was composed of major 〈011〉 grains and minor 〈001〉 grains aligned along the build direction, which stemmed from vertical and approximately ±45° inclined columnar cells formed in the central and side parts of melt-pools, respectively. The development of CLM was found to largely improve the material properties via the strengthening of the product, simultaneously showing superior corrosion resistance to commercially obtained specimens

ISIJ International, 60, 8, 1758. https://doi.org/10.2355/isijinternational.ISIJINT-2019-744.In recent years, additive manufacturing has attracted attention as a technology that enables control of the crystallographic texture of metallic materials. We achieved successful control of the crystallographic texture of 316L austenitic stainless steel using selective laser melting (SLM). Three distinguished textures were achieved by changing the laser scan speed, namely: the single crystalline-like texture with {001} orientation in the build direction, the crystallographic lamellar texture in which two kinds of grains with {011} and {001} orientations in the build direction are alternately stacked, and polycrystalline with relatively random orientation. The melt pool shape and the solidification behavior (thermal gradient and migration velocity of solid/liquid interface) in a melt pool could be important controlling factors for the evolution of the crystallographic texture under the SLM process

ELSEVIER, Ishimoto, T; Omori, N; Mutoh, F; Chiba, S, BRAIN RESEARCH, 881(2), 152-158, 2000. authorEffects of microinjections of a single 2 or 10 nmol dose of N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) into the unilateral mesencephalic reticular formation (MRF) on behavior and electroencephalogram were examined in rats (n=18) during a 15 min period (Exp. 1), and subsequent effects of sound stimulation with key jingling applied at 15, 30, and 45 min after the injections were observed (Exp. 2). The microinjections of 2 nmol dose of NMDA (n=10) induced hyperactivity (9 of 10 rats) and running/circling (8 of 10 rats) in Exp. 1, and hyperactivity (3 of 10 rats) in Exp. 2. Moreover, the microinjections of 10 nmol dose of NMDA (n=8) induced not only hyperactivity (8 of 8 rats) and running/circling (7 of 8 rats) but also generalized tonic-clonic seizures (GTCS) (5 of 8 rats) in Exp. 1; these seizure patterns were also elicited by sound stimulation in Exp. 2. The seizure patterns were accompanied by electroencephalographic seizure discharges in the MRF and the motor cortex. In contrast, the control group rats (n=10) which received a single dose of saline microinjection into the unilateral MRF showed no behavioral or electroencephalographic changes in both Exp. 1 and 2. These findings suggest that the MRF has an important role in the development of GTCS, which follows hyperactivity and running/circling, and that potentiation of excitatory neurotransmission in the MRF participates in the development of audiogenic seizures as well as GTCS

Possible one-dimensional He-3 quantum fluid formed in nanopores

    No full text
Heat capacity measurements have been made down to 5 mK for He-3 fluid films adsorbed in one-dimensional (1D) nanometer-scale pores, 28 Angstrom in diameter, preplated with He-4 of 1.47 atomic layers. At low He-3 density, the heat capacity shows a density-dependent, Schottky-like peak near 150 mK asymptoting to the value corresponding to a 2D Boltzmann gas at high temperatures. The peak behavior is attributed to the crossover from a 2D gas to a 1D state at low temperatures. The degenerate state of the 1D He-3 fluid is indicated by a predominantly linear temperature dependence below about 30 mK

Cost Minimization of Nonconvex Firms under Prices in Normal Cones.

Clarke's normal cone has been frequently used to formulate the marginal cost pricing rule for nonconvex firms. The author provides examples where a firm with convex iso-output sets is not minimizing its cost at a price vector in the normal cone. For a firm to be cost minimizing under any price in the normal cone, lower hemicontinuity of the iso-output correspondence is sufficient. The author also provides an extension of the second welfare theorem with a price vector in the normal cone of each firm and cost minimization of firms.
