    Psydrax cudalorensis Soosairaj sp. nov. (Fig. 1) Type:— INDIA. Tamil Nadu, Cuddalore district, elevation 50 m, 11°31′58″ N, 79°41′52″ E, 22 Feb. 2019, S . Soosairaj 2543 (holotype RHT 68952, isotype MH!). Small evergreen tree, up to 7 m height; branches quadrangular becoming terete, pubescent. Petiole 9–11mm, pubescent, leaf opposite, elliptic-lanceolate, base cuneate, apex acuminate, 7.8–11.5 × 3.5–4.3 cm, pubescent on abaxial side and glabrous on side, lateral veins 4-6 pairs, domatia at the base of lateral nerves on abaxial side, stipules triangular, pubescent, acute to aristate, on one side 3.2 × 2.1 mm, on the other side 6 × 2 mm. Inflorescence compound cyme, clearly branched, bracts copular at the base of pedicel; pedicel 8–10 mm, pubescent. Hypanthium pubescent, 1.5 mm. Calyx glabrous, lobe 5 toothed, ovate, triangular, pubescent, apex acute. Corolla cream white, 4–5 lobes, ovate - lanceolate, apex acute, tube 2.1× 1.9mm, lobe 1.2× 0.8mm, reflexed, pubescent. Stamens 4–5, epipetalous, filament 0.1–0.3mm, glabrous, anther 1.2× 0.6 mm, reflexed, apiculate. Style glabrous, 5.5 mm, stigma bifid, ovate, 1× 1mm. Drupe, globose, pubescent, 3–6 × 4–6 mm. Pyrene 1 or 2, reniform, surface reticulate-foveolate, 4.5–5 x 3 mm. Etymology:— The specific epithet cudalorensis is given based on the location of collection i.e. Cuddalore district in Tamil Nadu, India. Phenology:— Flowering occurs in February–March and November, and fruiting from April–May. Distribution and ecology and conservation status:— Psydrax cudalorensis was found growing in sacred groves of Cuddalore and Pudukkottai districts of Tamil Nadu, India. The forest type of these groves corresponds to Tropical Dry evergreen forest of 8A and 7C1 described by Champion & Seth (1968). P. cudalorensis is associated with Garcinia spicata Hooker f. (1875: 486), Pterospermum suberifolium (L.) Willdenow (1800: 728), Lepisanthes tetraphylla Radlkofer (1878: 276), Syzygium cumini (L.) Skeels (1912: 25), Mallotus philippensis (Lam.) Müller Argoviensis (1865: 196) and Argyreia cymosa Sweet (1826: 289). The authors observed more than fifty mature individuals at this locality although the exact population size and its distribution range needs to be explored further.     Early life permethrin treatment leads to long-term cardiotoxicity.

    Environmental, nutritional or hormonal influences in early life may have long-term effects changing homeostatic processes and physiological parameters in adulthood. NF-kB and Nrf2, two of the main transcription factors regulating genes involved in pro-inflammatory and antioxidant responses respectively, can be modified by various stimuli. NF-kB controls immediate early genes and is required for cardiomyocyte hypertrophic growth, while Nrf2 protects the heart from oxidative stress-induced cardiovascular complications. The aim of this study was to investigate the impact of early life permethrin treatment (1/50 of LD50, from 6th to 21st day of life) on the development of cardiotoxicity in 500-day-old rats. Nrf2 and NF-kB gene expression, calcium level and heart surface area were chosen as biomarkers of toxicity. Six candidate reference genes were first examined and GAPDH resulted the most stable one for RT-qPCR. The comparative expression analysis of the target genes showed 1.62-fold increase in Nrf2 mRNA level, while the NF-kB mRNA in treated rats was not significantly changed compared to control ones. A significant decrease in heart surface area was observed in treated rats (296.59±8.09, mm2) with respect to the control group (320.86±4.93, mm2). Finally, the intracellular calcium influx in heart of early life treated rats increased 4.33-fold compared to the control one. In conclusion, early life pesticide exposure to low doses of permethrin insecticide, has long-term consequences leading to cardiac hypotrophy, increased calcium and Nrf2 gene expression levels in old age

    Label-free and fluorescent imaging data of microparticle association with Salmon Keratocytes

    The dataset contains multimodal and multidimensional microscopy images of the interactions between different microparticles either in skin keratocytes cells (SKC) or in corneal keratocyte cells (CKC) of Atlantic Salmon. All images were captured at room temperature, and the dataset includes both test (with microparticles) and control (without microparticles) conditions. These interactions were captured using two different microscopes: 1) 3D Cell Explorer-fluo (Nanolive): a holotomographic imaging method which produces label-free 3D images using refractive index as the contrast mechanism and can optionally also provide 2D correlative fluorescence images. 2) DeltaVision Elite (GE Healthcare): a widefield fluorescence microscope with integrated deconvolution for improved 3D imaging, which can provide correlative 2D differential interference contrast (DIC) images. The main goal of this study was to understand how different microparticles interact with SKC and CKC, which are two of the important defense cells for innate immunity in fish. This dataset may be useful for researchers interested in studying salmon skin and corneal cell behavior, those who are interested in cell-microparticle interactions, as well as those interested in accessing or processing a relatively new type of microscopy image (holotomography)

The Indian waste landscape is changing rapidly as the population grows, the composition of the waste generated evolves, the extent of waste segmentation changes and the technologies available to collect and process waste improve. Many solutions have been proposed for dealing with the mixed waste but the most appropriate solution for a particular context is difficult to quantify. Thus, decisions are often made without considering the long-term economic, environmental or social consequences. The present work focuses on helping Indian cities improve collection, transportation and treatment of waste by developing a GIS-based decision support tool that assesses the cost effectiveness and efficiency of collection strategies, treatment technologies and system configurations. The tool considers the unique elements of a city including the demographics, waste composition, scale, existing infrastructure for waste collection and treatment and potential for implementing new technologies. Understanding the prevailing waste management architecture of these cities is vital in designing systems which adapt to meet the needs of the growing population with changing aspirations and consumer behavior. There is a lack of bottom-up data on the composition and volumes of waste in India. Our data-driven decision-making approach combines baseline data collection through waste audits with a systems optimization modeling approach. By using the tool to evaluate the economic, environmental and social impact of different technology configurations at varying scales, we are able to quantify the expected performance associated with different architectures. The decision support tool can be used to find the minimum cost waste configuration that considers both environmental GHG emissions and employment, by constructing trade-off graphs between competing goals. A compromise solution that satisfies competing goals is obtained at the turning point of the trade-off graphs. We also test the feasibility of improving the segregation rate in Muzaffarnagar and the impact segregation policies have on the metrics of the waste system. From the waste audits, we see that Indian households have a high composition of organic waste and waste generation increases with income level. By implementing a weekly feedback social incentive mechanism, we see that the segregation rate of organic waste by households increases to nearly twice than those households that were given no feedback. The tool shows that as the segregation rate of the city increases, the costs and GHG emissions reduce, while the employment of the waste system increases. The level of centralization of the system reduces as the level of segregation of waste increases, that is, the system moves towards smaller scale processing plants instead of large scale centralized plants.by Dhivya Ravikumar.S.M. in Technology and Polic

    In Vitro Comparative study of Sorption, Solubility and Compressive Strength of Three Modified Glass Ionomer Cements

    AIM OF THE STUDY: To evaluate and compare the sorption, solubility and compressive strength of three modified glass ionomer cements – Glass Hybrid Restorative System (Equiaforte), Zirconomer Improved and resin modified glass ionomer cement (RMGIC) in artificial saliva. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 90 cylindrical specimens (4 mm diameter and 6 mm height) were prepared for each material following the manufacturer’s instructions. After subjecting the specimens to thermocycling of 500 cycles between 5 and 55 degree Celsius with the dwell time 15secs, 45 specimens were immersed in artificial saliva for 24 hours for compressive strength testing under a universal testing machine, and the other 45 were evaluated for sorption and solubility, by first weighing them by a precision weighing scale (W1), then immersing them in artificial saliva for 28 days and weighing them (W2), and finally dehydrating in an oven for 24 hours and weighing them (W3). Since the obtained values show normal distribution differences between the groups data were analyzed using the one way analysis of variance (ANOVA). For pairwise evaluation between the groups post hoc dunnet t3 test was used. RESULTS: The result exhibited that the compressive strength of Zirconomer improved cement was maximum with the mean value of 153.777 ± 1.55 MPa when compared with other groups. The sorption and solubility values in artificial saliva were minimum for zirconomer improved cement with the mean value of sorption 52.91 ± 1.73 μg/mm3 and solubility 10.47 ± 1.52 μg/mm3 when compared with other groups. The difference between groups was found to be statistically significant (p<0.05) in terms of compressive strength, sorption and solubility. CONCLUSION: Zirconomer improved cement shows highest compressive strength preceded by glass hybrid restorative system and then the resin modified glass ionomer cement.
