A letter written to Mr. T. N. Carswell, Committee on Americanism, Parramore Post No. 57, American Legion, Abilene, Texas, from Franklin L. Burdette, Director of the Citizenship Course, Butler University, Indianapolis, Indiana, dated December 15, 1941. Burdette conveys for President Daniel S. Robinson his appreciation for the letter from Carswell regarding the request for a definition of Americanism and advises of Robinson's request for Burdette to define it, therefore, the reason for the enclosed statement "Basic Ideals of Constitutional Democracy" as distributed by the National Foundation for Education in American Citizenship. He advises of a full-year course in American Government and Citizenship required of all sophomores attending Butler University

The Effect of Asynchronous Earthquake Motion on Complex Bridges

    No full text
Based on observed damage patterns from previous earthquakes and a rich history of analytical studies, asynchronous input motion has been identified as a major. source of unfavorable response for long-span structures, such as bridges. This study is aimed at quantifying the effect of geometric incoherence and wave arrival delay on complex straight and curved bridges using state-of-the-art methodologies and tools. Using fully parametrized computer codes combining expert geotechnical and earthquake structural engineering knowledge, suites of asynchronous accelerograms are produced for use in inelastic dynamic analysis of the bridge model. Two multidegree-of-freedom analytical models are analyzed using 2,000 unique synthetic accelerograms with results showing significant response amplification due to asynchronous input motion, demonstrating the importance of considering asynchronous seismic input in complex, irregular bridge design. The paper, Part I of a two-paper investigation, presents the development of the input motion sets and the modeling and analysis approach employed, concluding with sample results. Detailed results and implications on seismic assessment are presented in the companion paper: Effect of Asynchronous Motion on Complex Bridges. Part II: Results and Implications on Assessment

Day Trading Into the Next Century

    No full text
40 p.The author describes his internship at Merrill Lynch in the first section and his experiences with day trading in the second part. Day trading is buying and selling stocks on the market on a daily basis, trying to make the quick buck. A broker is always buying and selling stock for the clients on a daily basis. The author chose to research day trading in order to experience what a broker actually does. The author includes the history of day trading, the basics of day trading, and what a day trader and a broker need to know when trying to trade stock. In addition, the author discusses the technological aspects of day trading: web-based brokers and electronic brokers. Web-based brokers are easy to access and are very cheap ways to operate on the market. Electronic brokers give you direct access to the markets. Finally, the author discusses the future of day trading.Merrill Lynch

Pharaoh let my people go, Christianity is A.I.R!!! A Black church history account grounded in truth rather than tradition, of African Americans’ evolution into western Christianity and its influence on Christian education and Black identity (Genesis 15:12–14), 2020

Interpreters who utilize western ideology of history and the Christian narrative typically omit Black Africa, the source of civilization, and her people from the discourse. The inaccurate pictures create intellectual dishonesty of the past, the present and unless the picture is corrected, the future. Distortions of Christianity’s African origins and influence precipitated the fracturing of African Americans’ lived experiences: our evolution, identity, and sacred responsibilities
