Rutherford B. Hayes was born on October 4, 1822, in Delaware, Ohio. He was a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Ohio, served two non-consecutive terms as Governor of Ohio and became the 19th President of the United States. He served one term as President from 1877-1881.
Hayes died in Fremont, Ohio, on January 17, 1893 and was buried at his home, Spiegel Grove, next to his wife, Lucy

Despite losing the popular vote, Hayes won the Electoral College and was granted the presidency by the Congress after agreements were made to end Reconstruction in the South, a deal that would be known as the Compromise of 1877

Lucy Webb was born on August 28, 1831 in Chillicothe, Ohio. She married Rutherford B Hayes on December 30, 1832. They became the parents of eight children. She died in Fremont, Ohio on June 25, 1889 and was buried in Fremont City Cemetery. Later, she was re-interred to Spiegel Grove
