    Reverse Transfer of Writing Rhetorical Structures by Indonesian EFL Learners

    The reverse transfer of writing knowledge from L2 to L1 involves reusing and reshaping prior knowledge. However, research on this issue generally focuses on the former rather than the latter. Further investigation is needed to understand how individual (writing and language proficiency) and social factors (writing audience) interact dynamically during L2 and L1 writing and affect the reverse transfer. This study investigates the potential transfer of rhetorical structures from L2 English to L1 Indonesian as a result of L2 instruction in a tertiary Indonesian EFL context by comparing the presence of argument-counterargument features in the students' L1 and L2 essays. This quantitative study was conducted at a private Indonesian university, involving students from English Education (N=89) and Indonesian Language and Literature (N=100) study programs. The study found evidence of reverse transfer in the use of argument-counterargument structure among third-year English majors deemed to be skillful writers. However, the occurrence of it is not automatic, mediated by factors such as the writer’s writing proficiency, L2 proficiency, and perceived audience expectation. This finding shows that the reverse transfer of writing knowledge is dynamic and influenced by both the student’s writing ability development and L1 and L2 writing traditions

    Petugas LPKAadalah seseorang pembina di LPKA yang berperan dalam proses pembinaan dengan tanggung jawab pengawasan, keamanan, dan keselamatan anak didik untuk meningkatkan dan mengembangkan sikap dan pengetahuan anakdidik secara terarah dan teratur guna menjadikannya orang baik dan berguna agar mampu utuk hidup bermasyarakat. Pembinaan Anak Didik Pemasyarakatan di LPKA ini tidak selalu berjalan mulus sesuai dengan tujuannya. Seperti di LAPAS bagi orang dewasa, tidak sedikit kasus Napi yang melakukan upaya pelarian. Seperti kasus bahwa dua anak didik LPKA melarikan diri dari LPKA. Keduaanak didik Lapas ini melarikan diri melalui atap yang sudah rapuh. Tidak hanya sekali itu sebelum sebelumnya juga pernah tejadi kasus pelarian di LPKA. Dengan adanya hambatan semacam ini proses penegakan hukum pidana khsusunya dalam tahap pembinaan menjadi terhalang. Maka perlu upaya penanganan yang harus dilakukan supaya proses penegakan hukum pidana khususnya tahapeksekusi/ pembinaan di LPKA dapat berjalan dengan baik

    Negara Indonesia adalah suatu Negara Hukum yang berdasarkan Pancasila. Ciri-ciri sebagai suatu negara hukum adalah pengakuan dan perlindungan hak-hak asasi yang mengandung persamaan dalam bidang politik, hukum, sosial, ekonomi, budaya, dan pendidikan; peradilan yang bebas dan tidak memihak, tidak dipengaruhi oleh suatu kekuasaan atau kekuasaan apapun. Kekuasaan disini misalnya kekuasaan di luar lembaga yudikatif, yaitu kekuasaan eksekutif ataupun kekuasaan pembuat legislatif. Kehadiran penasehat hukum dalam proses penyidikan disamping sudah menjadi hak tersangka untuk mendapatkan bantuan hukum, juga jangan sampai tersangka mendapat perlakuan yang sewenang-wenang oleh pihak penyidik. Oleh karena itu, penasehat hukum dalam proses penanganan perkara pidana mempunyai peranan yang sangat penting, karena terhadap suatu dakwaan dari penuntut umum yang disusun secara rapi, perbuatan yang diancam dengan hukuman pidana, maupun mengenai peraturan hukum pidana yang harus dilaksanakan, tersangka mungkin sekali merasa dirinya kecil dan takut. Meskipun sebenarrnya tersangka dapat menyusun pembelaan secara tepat diperlukan pikiran dan perasaan yang tenang, sedangkan ketenangan ini biasanya tidak terdapat pada seorang yang tersangkut dalam perkara pidana sebagai terdakwa. dalam Pasal 69 KUHAP mengenai bantuan hukum, maka dalam hal ini penangkapan dan penahanan antara penyidik dengan penasehat hukum bisa berhubungan langsung. Sehingga, hak-hak daripada tersangka juga terpenuhi. Dalam proses penyidikan dengan hadirnya penasehat hukum bukan berarti menyulitkan proses penyidikan, bahkan akan membantu dalam usaha untuk menemukan salah satu penegak hukum disamping polisi, jaksa, dan hakim yang mempunyai tugas dan kewajiban untuk menyelesaikan setiap perkara pidana. Oleh karena itu yang menjadi penghambat pelaksanaan bantuan hukum terhadap tersangka karena tersangka tidak mengetahui manfaat tentang bantuan hukum dan tidak mengetahui adanya kesempatan untuk mendapat bantuan hukum secara cuma-cuma maupun akibat hanya berpedoman secara harfiah saja terhadap KUHAP

    AN ANALYSIS OF LECTURER TALK DURING TEACHING AND LEARNING PROCESS OF ENGLISH AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE

    Researching teacher talk during teaching and learning process of English is essential because it offers practical implications for the improvement of teaching and learning process.  However, there are still few studies which try to compare types of talk used by lecturers who teach content and skill subjects. This research investigates the types and the dominant types of lecturer talk during the teaching and learning process at an English Education Department. The participants were two English lecturers at a private University in Malang who taught Vocabulary (skill subject) and Poetry (content subject) classes. The researchers used an audio recorder to record the utterances by the lecturers. The data were analyzed qualitatively by using FIAC (Flanders Interaction Analysis Category). The types of lecturer talk produced by the lecturer who taught Vocabulary were Ask question, Give direction, Give lecture, Accept or use students’ idea, Praise or encourage, and Criticize or justify authority. The types of lecturer talk produced by the lecturer who taught Poetry were Give lecture, Ask question, Accept or use students’ idea, Give direction, Praise or encourage, and Criticize or justify authority. The most dominant types of talk produced by the lecturer who taught Vocabulary were Ask question and Give direction but Give lecture was the most dominant types of talk produced by the lecturer who taught Poetry. This finding indicates that types of course taught by lecturers affect the kinds of talk produced by the lecturers

    This thesis analyzes the Pride and Prejudice novel by Jane Austen. The story is about Bannet family. It is interesting to discuss, this novel since it reflects solidarity of family, and the power of woman who always opposed the marriage culture when their got married with a man it is seen when Elizabeth try to contrary her parents mindset especially to all parents in that era. She faces many problems in her life. With all of her ability she can solve it and gain her happiness. This study contains two problems formulation to be analyzed. The first is “What issues of feminism are reflected in the Pride and Prejudice novel?†And the second is “What are the dominant roles of women deserted in the Pride and Prejudice novel?â€Â. The research design of this study is descriptive qualitative method because beside the data are taken from the novel (primary data), the researcher also use secondary data (theories, explanation, different news form about feminism). These secondary data are used to support the result of analysis of the primary data. Finally, the researcher suggests on the findings of Feminism Reflected in the Pride and Prejudice novel by Jane Austen to the readers to comprehend that Pride and Prejudice novel also provide insight to the community to determine the role of women on the early nineteenth century were always viewed as weak and does not have the ability in his capacity as a human being. The results of this study can be used as a reference in the research literature itself in educational institutions and so on. The result of this study is also expected to be useful in several ways. This study gives significance for the researcher to understand and provides more knowledge about feminism. This study may be expected to give significant to the future researchers who conduct studies about literature focusing on feminism or on Pride and Prejudice novel by providing preliminary study. &nbsp
