THE 2016 CENTRAL ITALY EARTHQUAKE. WAITING FOR RECONSTRUCTION
The 2016 Central Italy earthquake affected a portion of the sub-Apennine territory that spans 4 regions, 10 provinces, 138 municipalities, and encompasses a total territory of approximately 8,000 square kilometres.
A population of 600,000 people was involved, with a high number of lost lives, injured, and people displaced.
According to the history of natural disasters in Italy, reconstruction is emerging as a delayed process that only
in recent months seems to have started; a top-down process that has greatly burdened communities. In a scenario of great landscape value, communities already subject to depopulation and economic depletion still experience, eight years later, a condition of crisis dictated by the delay in reconstruction and the lack of
policies to keep these communities alive in the long period from the disaster until the reconstruction is completed. Small temporary settlements, built in the aftermath of the earthquake, are the new urban system in which only part of the population has decided to settle, rather than abandon their territories, as others
have done. Observing the impacts of a highly destructive earthquake on communities in the so-called "inland areas" it is necessary to grasp how the impoverishment of a community's intangible values (social relations, quality of living, etc.) can be even more serious than the loss of the buildings

Solar System tests in f(T) gravity
We investigate the four solar system tests of gravity - perihelion precession, light bending, Shapiro time delay, gravitational redshift - in gravity. In particular, we investigate the solution derived by Ruggiero and Radicella, Phys. Rev. D 91, 104014 (2015), for a nondiagonal vierbein field for a polynomial , where is a constant and . In this paper, we derive the solutions for each test, in which Weinberg's, Bodenner and Will's, Cattani et al. and Rindler and Ishak's methods are applied, Gravitation and Cosmology: Principles and Applications of the General Theory of Relativity (Wiley, New York, 1972); Am. Inexact Bregman iteration with an application to Poisson data reconstruction
This work deals with the solution of image restoration problems by an
iterative regularization method based on the Bregman iteration. Any iteration of this
scheme requires to exactly compute the minimizer of a function. However, in some
image reconstruction applications, it is either impossible or extremely expensive to
obtain exact solutions of these subproblems. In this paper, we propose an inexact
version of the iterative procedure, where the inexactness in the inner subproblem
solution is controlled by a criterion that preserves the convergence of the Bregman
iteration and its features in image restoration problems. In particular, the method
allows to obtain accurate reconstructions also when only an overestimation of the
regularization parameter is known. The introduction of the inexactness in the iterative
scheme allows to address image reconstruction problems from data corrupted by
Poisson noise, exploiting the recent advances about specialized algorithms for the
numerical minimization of the generalized Kullback–Leibler divergence combined with
a regularization term. The results of several numerical experiments enable to evaluat

Structures of free and inhibited forms of theL,D-transpeptidase LdtMt1 from Mycobacterium tuberculosis
The modelling of peptidoglycan is responsible for key cellular processes in Mycobacterium tuberculosis such as cell growth, division and resuscitation from dormancy. The structure of M. tuberculosis peptidoglycan is atypical since it contains a majority of 3,3 cross-links synthesized by L,D-transpeptidases that replace the 4,3 cross-links formed by the D,D-transpeptidase activity of classical penicillin-binding proteins. Carbapenems inactivate these L,D-transpeptidases and in combination with clavulanic acid are bactericidal against extensively drug-resistant M. tuberculosis. Here, crystal structures of the L,D-transpeptidase Ldt(Mt1) from M. tuberculosis in a ligand-free form and in complex with the carbapenem imipenem are reported. Elucidation of the structural features of Ldt(Mt1) unveils analogies and differences between the two key transpeptidases of M. tuberculosis: Ldt(Mt1) and Ldt(Mt2). In addition, the structure of imipenemin-activated Ldt(Mt1) provides a detailed structural view of the interactions between a carbapenem drug and Ldt(Mt1). By providing the key interactions in the binding of carbapenem to Ldt(Mt1), this work will facilitate structure-guided discovery of L,D-transpeptidase inhibitors as novel antitubercular agents against drug-resistant M. tuberculosis
Energy recovery of blast-furnace gas coke. The importance of a correct regulation system
The present work deals with the regulation system of a plant recovering the energy of blast-furnace gas coke residual pressure. Such plant is provided by a turbogenerator which produces electric energy expanding the gas coke up to the mill pipe network pressure vallue. Before intervention the regulation apparatus consisted of an automatic vane orientation system of a turbine stator and a throttle valve. Once the system has become operative, the regulation set seemed to be inadequate showing a significant reduction in energy recovery due to the variation of the gas coke characteristics, compared to the original engineering specifications. A mathematical model for the plant simulation has been developed throughly the regulation system static and dynamic responses. This simulation together with a series of experimental tests indicated the causes of the operation problems in the original regulation system. On the base of the response times of the old regulation system, a valve with reduced intervention inertia has been introduced. The regulation logic was also modified: the valve interventions were directly linked to the pressure variations recorded at the blast furnace top, and no longer to the opening variation of the turbine automatic system. A more rational use of the plant components and its control system, together with and increase of the electric energy production have been the final results
