The importance of pancreatic inflammation in endosonographic diagnostics of solid pancreatic masses
Endosonography (EUS) is one of the main diagnostic tools for the differential diagnosis of pancreatic masses. The aim of our study was to describe the value of this technique in the work-up of solid pancreatic lesions, considering the influence of the morphological evidence of pancreatic inflammation in the diagnostic process
EFSUMB Guidelines and Recommendations on the Clinical Use of Liver Ultrasound Elastography, Update 2017 (Long Version)
We present here the first update of the 2013 EFSUMB (European
Federation of Societies for Ultrasound in Medicine and
Biology) Guidelines and Recommendations on the clinical use
of elastography with a focus on the assessment of diffuse liver
disease. The short version provides clinical information about
the practical use of elastography equipment and interpretation
of results in the assessment of diffuse liver disease and
analyzes the main findings based on published studies, stressing
the evidence from meta-analyses. The role of elastography
in different etiologies of liver disease and in several clinical
scenarios is also discussed. All of the recommendations are
judged with regard to their evidence-based strength according
to the Oxford Centre for Evidence-Based Medicine Levels
of Evidence. This updated document is intended to act as a reference
and to provide a practical guide for both beginners
and advanced clinical users
The republic of love and popular romance
Award-winning Canadian writer Carol Shields has garnered praise from scholars and an international audience of readers. Inspired by the quality and scope of Shields's work, Carol Shields, Narrative Hunger, and the Possibilities of Fiction addresses her creative exploration of postmodernism. As the first thorough examination of the Pulitzer Prize-winning author, this collection of essays establishes the groundwork for future studies of her oeuvre. The collection begins with a significant new essay from Shields herself, 'Narrative Hunger and the Overflowing Cupboard,' perhaps her most substantial commentary upon her own aims as a writer. In addition, scholars from Canada, England, the United States, and Australia explore the complexity of Shields's work and her contributions to the genre of the novel. These lively essays reflect Shields's verve and her playful approach to today's sophisticated critical thinking. Among the topics are Shields's use of biography and autobiography, metafiction, popular romance, and symbolism. While the essays foreground the unreliability of language, and hence our inability to know one another or even ourselves, the contributors argue that Shields has taken a step beyond postmodernism by suggesting that we can transcend the limitations of its epistemology. Containing several essays on Swann and The Stone Diaries, Shields's most popular works, and the most extensive annotated bibliography available of works by and about Shields, this collection will appeal widely to scholars, students, and readers of Carol Shields and Canadian fiction. Faye Hammill persuasively argues for The Republic of Love as a self-conscious revision and rehabilitation of the romantic novel, highlighting the elements of parody and polyphony which enable Shields at once to affirm and subvert the conventions of the genre
The frequency of post-COVID-19 condition and its clinical relevance after COVID-19 disease of employees in facilities of preschool childcare
Structured summary: Objective: Evaluation of the rate and symptoms of Post-COVID-19 condition in employees in childcare. Methods: A structured questionnaire collected data from two distinct collectives: Collective 1 (C1) consisted of a prospective cohort of 44 employees after COVID-19 disease, whereas Collective 2 (C2) included 222 employees who were retrospectively interviewed. The questionnaire mainly focused on symptoms and wellbeing during or after COVID-19. Results: The main symptoms of Post-COVID-19 condition were impairment of focus, fatigue/exhaustion, reduced stamina, headache and dyspnoea. 30 % of the employees in C1 and 7.6 % of C2 suffered from a clinically relevant Post-COVID-19 condition with impairment of the general wellbeing. According to the WHO definition, a Post-COVID-19 condition was found in 56.6 % (C1) and 25.5 % (C2). Conclusions: A Post-COVID-19 condition was a common finding in both our collectives but did not automatically cause an impairment of general wellbeing

Newspaper Article - 'Win Safety Prize' (Echo Hill WI - Reflector Tape, March 12, 1960)AWI CollectionM- URDA. Y, MARCH 12, 1960
WIN SAFETY PRIZE — Mrs. W. B. H. Squair of Legal,
seated right, is a member of Echo Hill Women's Institute, a group
which Thursday received news that it had won the $ 500 second
prize in the annual Carol Lane safety awards. Mrs. Squair,
constituency convener for the WI in her area when the safety
project was undertaken, is in Edmonton this week and attended
a WI conference at the Corona Hotel Wednesday and Thursday.
She is pictured with Mrs. Harold Lefsrud of Viking, standing,
provincial health convener, and Mrs. G. D. Spargo of Alcomdale,
present constituency convener for mid- Pembina. To win the
safety prize, the 17 members of Echo Hill WI bought S180 worth
of red reflector tape and themeselves applied it to five farm
machines on each of 73 farms in a 40- square miles area. The
project was designed to prevent accidents involving farm machines
being moved on the roads from field to field. Left- over reflector
tape was sold to farmers in neighboring areas, who became
interested in the safety measure after hearing of the WI project.
Mrs. Lloyd McMillan is president of the branch, and the safety
project was her idea, Mrs. Squair says. Money for the project
had been raised at chicken suppers, bazaars, card parties and
sales of home baking. — Photo by Goertz Studios
In the clutches of (post)memory. A study of the relationship between mother and daughter in Bożena Keff’s “Utwór o Matce i Ojczyźnie” [“A Piece on Mother and Motherland”]
The article focuses on the issue of postmemory (a term by M. Hirsch) and transgenerational trauma transmission basing on "Utwór o Matce i Ojczyźnie" [A Piece on Mother and Motherland] (published in 2008) written by Bożena Keff, the daughter of Holocaust survivor. The main aim is to present the consequences of postmemory and trauma transmission in the context of the relationships within survivor’s family, mainly: the relationship between a mother and a daughter. Analysing the topics of transmitted memories and their consequences, the author provides a theoretical background referencing, among others, the thought of M. Hirsch and K. Goertz
