The Speed of the Internationalisation Process and the Institutional Networks of Family SMEs in the DOC Rioja Wine Industry

    No full text
Abstract Institutional networking is a key element in businesses’ internationalisation processes and is an important strategy for promoting the long-term growth and surviv-ability of family SMEs in the DOC Rioja wine industry. We hold that the proportion of family members in the TMT plays an important role in strategic decision-making and helps to explain the speed of their internationalisation process. Tis paper contributes to the scant research on the influence of family involvement in the TMT by analysing the moderating effects of two diversities on the relationship between institutional networking and the speed of internationalisation: the family TMT ratio and generational involvement. Using a broad sample of 77 family wineries in DOC Rioja, the results obtained indicate that institutional networking plays a significant role in explaining the speed of internationalisation in family firms and that this relationship is weaker when a larger proportion of family members serve as top managers. Te empirical results also have interesting implications for the managers of family firms as it may help them to identify the effective composition of TMTs to be considered when deciding on the process of internationalisation. © 2020 M.F. Public Support for the Financing of RD&D Activities in New Clean Energy Technologies

    No full text
Several market failures, as well as other technical, economic and regulatory barriers to the market penetration of clean energy technologies result in under-investment of private innovators in RD&D. Therefore, public support is needed in order to induce innovations. Policy tools creating market conditions that are attractive for the exploitation of clean technologies (market pull) must be combined with other tools directly supporting the development of these technologies through the provision of public funds (technology push). Thereby, financing policy instruments should be chosen so that their characteristics match with those of the specific innovation process being targeted at the same time that social welfare is maximized. We develop an analytical framework to define the form of public support and to provide recommendations on the optimal choice of both technology push and market pull instruments.clean energy technologies; innovation finance; public support; technology push; market pull

Evolution Of The Magnetic Properties On Van Der Waals Layered Magnets Via Pressure And Proton Irradiation

    No full text
Probing the magnetism in quasi two-dimensional materials has the potential in driving their properties towards future use in spin electronic based devices. Studying such layered magnets will enable the scientific community to uncover tunable exotic phases such as superconductivity, quantum paramagnetism, etc. This work examines the influence of two types of external perturbations, namely, the pressure and proton irradiation, on the magnetic properties of several compounds in the van der Waals crystal family. Pressure has been found to induce structural and magnetic phase transitions in many of these materials. Using hydrostatic pressure as a disorderless approach to manipulate the interlayer coupling, we apply pressure to CrBr3, Fe2.7GeTe2, Mn3Si2Te6, and CrSiTe3 with a high-pressure piston cell up to ~1.3 GPa. Materials with weakly held layers allow relatively easy manipulation of the superexchange mechanism. Magnetic property measurements revealed that each material studied has shown the ability to have their corresponding Curie temperature (TC) and the saturation magnetization tuned by pressure. The overall pressure effect on layer separation, bond angle, and exchange coupling are found to strongly influence the change in subsequent magnetic characteristics. Proton irradiation was employed to manipulate the spin fluctuations on Mn3Si2Te6 (MST) and being irradiated at 1 Ã 1015, 5 Ã 1015,1 Ã 1016, and 1 Ã 1018 H+/cm2. A critical behavior analysis was performed to examine the physical system at the critical point for each fluence rate. The analytical study of the critical phenomena has been used to discern the magnetic behavior of proton irradiated MST. In this work, we report the critical parameters related to magnetization, magnetic susceptibility, exchange distance, space and spin dimensionality to sort the universality class as a function of proton irradiance

Pressure dependent magnetic properties on bulk CrBr3 single crystals

The van der Waals class of materials offer an approach to two-dimensional magnetism as their spin fluctuations can be tuned upon exfoliation of layers. Moreover, it has recently been shown that spin-lattice coupling and long-range magnetic ordering can be modified with pressure in van der Waals materials. In this work, the magnetic properties of quasi two-dimensional CrBr3 are reported applying hydrostatic pressure. The application of pressure up to 0.844 GPa shows a 1.77% decrease in saturation magnetization with a decrease in the Curie temperature from 33.05 to 30.41 K. Density functional theory calculations with pressure up to 1 GPa show a reduction in volume and interplanar distance as pressure increases. To further understand the magnetic properties with applied pressure, the magnetocrystalline anisotropy energy (MAE) and exchange coupling parameter(s) (J) are calculated. There is small decrease in MAE and the first nearest neighbor interaction (J1) (U = 2.7 eV and J = 0.7 eV) is increasing with respect to increasing pressure. Overall, CrBr3 displays ferromagnetic interlayer coupling and the calculated exchange coupling and MAE parameters match well with the observations from the experimental work. This is a manuscript of an article published as Olmos, Rubyann, Shamsul Alam, Po-Hao Chang, Kinjal Gandha, Ikenna C. No full text
This work presents a critical exploration of the linguistic work of Fray Andrés de Olmos, highlighting his pioneering role in the description of indigenous languages in New Spain during the 16th century. Despite difficulties and the loss of many of his works, Olmos conducted detailed and precise analyses of the grammar and phonology of Nahuatl, Huastec, and other languages. The author emphasizes Olmos’s historical importance as the first historian of Mexican antiquities and underlines his influence on subsequent studies, also providing a review of relevant bibliography and the life of the Franciscan friarEste trabajo presenta una exploración crítica de la obra lingüística de Fray Andrés de Olmos, destacando su papel pionero en la descripción de lenguas indígenas en la Nueva España durante el siglo XVI. During the months of January and February, 1975, an archaeological survey of the Olmos Basin from Olmos Dam to Hildebrand Avenue was conducted by the author for the Center for Archaeological Research of the University of Texas at San Antonio. The purpose of the survey was to locate, record, and assess the archaeological importance of any historic and prehistoric sites within the basin. The survey area was limited to lands owned by the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word, but sites reported in the immediately surrounding area have also been noted in order to form a more complete archaeological picture.Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Wor

Los Uehuetlahtolli de fray Andrés de Olmos: linguae mexicanae exercitatio

The “Art of the Mexican language” by Friar Andrés de Olmos, the first grammar of the Nahuatl language, written around 1545, contains in book III two chapters intended to exemplify the grammatical postulates contained in the Art, as the author himself points out. Of them, “The Manners of speaking in the speech of the ancients”, which was one of the first literary testimonies of Nahuatl, has often been decontextualized from grammar, to give way to various assumptions about its composition and function. This article explains the vicissitudes of these Uehuetlahtolli, from a philological and codicological perspective, and explains the reasons why almost 450 years after Friar Andrés de Olmos wrote the talks, these have been distorted to the point of forgetting their fundamental function: a practical exercise on the Mexican language.

The Olmos Basin, with its perennial springs of water, has been as important camping place for thousands of years. From archaeological evidence so far accumulated it appears that man first lived in the area in Paleo Indian times. Projectile point of the Clovis, Plainview and Angostura types (9200-6000 B.C.) have been found in the Basin (Figure 3). Evidence of man’s presence in the Basin during Archaic (6000 B.C.- 1000 A.D.) and Neo-American (1000-1600 A. D.) times has also been documented by the finding of point types representative of these periods (Orchard 1974 and Figure 4) and pottery diagnostic of the latter period (Orchard and Campbell 1960)

Who Copied Whom? Alonso de Molina and the Vocabulary Appended to Andrés de Olmos’ Arte (1547) of Nahuatl

Is the vocabulary appended to a late copy of the Franciscan missionary Andrés de Olmos’ grammar of Nauatl from 1547 an addendum produced by the same author, thus constituting the earliest known lexicographic work of colonial America? By reviewing the debate surrounding this vocabulary found in the so-called Fischer (Tulane, or TULAL) manuscript and examining it using new insights into dictionary-making in the early modern world, I argue that it postdates the 1540s. In contrast to the assumption that the Fischer vocabulary was a source for the famous Spanish-to-Nauatl dictionary from 1555 by the Franciscan missionary Alonso de Molina, I demonstrate that the author of the vocabulary employed Molina’s later dictionaries from 1571 as its main lexicographic sources. The potential relation to Molina’s early dictionary is also examined and similarly indicates that the Fischer vocabulary was copied from Molina rather than vice versa, although the vocabulary may have been composed at different times

The “Vocabulario/Trilingüe/Cast.Lat.Mex” is part of the Ayer collection, no. 1478 of the Newberry Library in Chicago. It is an untitled anonymous manuscript. Its author, in making it, left multiple traces of various kinds. These traces have been researched and analyzed and now allow us to propose that the author is D. Lorenzo, an Indigenous disciple of Fray Andrés de Olmos. In addition, it is hypothesized that the creation of the Vocabulario trilingüe can be dated very early and that it may have served as a model for Fray Alonso de Molina to create his own dictionariesEl “Vocabulario/Trilingüe/Cast.
