Analytic Philosophy in Latin America
Analytic philosophy was introduced in Latin America in the mid-twentieth century. Its development hasbeen heterogeneous in the different countries of the region, but has reached today a considerable degree ofmaturity and originality. There is now a strong community working within the analytic tradition in LatinAmerica. I present an historical view on the development of the analytic tradition in Latin America and some main contributions to universal philosophy.Fil: Perez, Diana Ines.
Fil: Perez, Diana Ines. Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas; Argentina. Complementing the Analysis: Psychological Concepts and Color Concepts
En este trabajo presento dos tipos de conceptos, los conceptos psicológicos y los conceptos de color y sugiero una ampliación de la tesis externista que defiende Axel Barceló en su libro Sobre el análisis. In this paper I present two types of concepts, psychological concepts and color concepts, and I suggest an extension of the externist thesis defended by Axel Barceló in his book Sobre el análisis.Fil: Perez, Diana Ines. Social cognition and the second person in human interaction
This book is a unique exploration of the idea of the "second person" in human interaction, the idea that interactions often take place in cooperative contexts, and that mental states are attributed to each other in the dynamical unfolding of a face-to face interaction.Challenging the view of mental attribution as a sort of "theory of mind", Pérez and Gomila argue that the second person perspective of mental understanding is the conceptually, ontogenetically and phylogenetically basic way of understanding mentality. Second-person interaction provides the opportunity for the acquisition of concepts of mental states, of increasing complexity. The book reviews the growing interest in a variety of second-person phenomena, both in development and in adulthood, presenting research that shows how participants in human interaction attribute psychological states of a referentially transparent kind to each other. This review documents the spontaneous preference for face to face interaction, from eye contact to joint attention, from forms of vitality to communicative intentions, from interaction detection to joint action, and from synchrony to interpersonal coordination. Also looking at the implications and applications of the second person perspective within fields as diverse as art and morality, this book is fascinating reading for students and academics in social and cognitive psychology, cognitive science, neuroscience, and philosophy.Fil: Perez, Diana Ines. Extracellular Vesicles Loaded miRNAs as Potential Modulators Shared Between Glioblastoma, and Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s Diseases
Glioblastoma (GBM) is the deadliest brain tumor. Its poor prognosis is due to cell heterogeneity, invasiveness, and high vascularization that impede an efficient therapeutic approach. In the past few years, several molecular links connecting GBM to neurodegenerative diseases (NDDs) were identified at preclinical and clinical level. In particular, giving the increasing critical role that epigenetic alterations play in both GBM and NDDs, we deeply analyzed the role of miRNAs, small non-coding RNAs acting epigenetic modulators in several key biological processes. Specific miRNAs, transported by extracellular vesicles (EVs), act as intercellular communication signals in both diseases. In this way, miRNA-loaded EVs modulate GBM tumorigenesis, as they spread oncogenic signaling within brain parenchyma, and control the aggregation of neurotoxic protein (Tau, Aβ-amyloid peptide, and α-synuclein) in NDDs. In this review, we highlight the most promising miRNAs linking GBM and NDDs playing a significant pathogenic role in both diseases.Fil: Thomas, Laura. The Ontology of Art: What Can We Learn from Borges’s "Menard"?
The question I want to analyze in this paper can be summarized as follows: what is the nature of works of art? This question can be divided into two separate ones: (1) what differential feature separate objects which are works of art from other objects which we usually do not consider as such?, and (2) to what kind of ontological category do works of art belong to? The recent discussions around this second topic are usually framed by the more traditional ontological discussion about universals. Thus, in order to answer the second question, philosophers generally use the distinction between universal-particular or type-token. But nobody would say that every universal (if she is universalist) or every particular (if particularist) is a work of art. Because works of art should have "something more". But what is this "something more"? In this paper I will try to answer these questions inspired by the ideas J.L. Borges developed in the short story: "Pierre Menard, author of the Quixote."Fil: Perez, Diana Ines. Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas; Argentina. Universidad de Buenos Aires. The will to communicate
In this paper I discuss Rodriguez-Pereyra’s claim according to which analytical philosophy should be published exclusively in English. I focus my reply on three issues: (1) the implicit conception of philosophy and of the philosophical practice that underlies his argument, (2) the myth of the “native speaker” and (3) some values that should guide philosophy and which I propose to highlight. Fil: Perez, Diana Ines.
