Equivalent geometric imperfection definition in steel structures sensitive to lateral torsional buckling due to bending moment

    No full text
The purpose of this paper is to present a proposal for the design of steel structures sensitive to lateral torsional buckling due to bending moment in order to fill the gaps in the current Standard EN 1993- 1-1, guidelines for obtaining the magnitude of the imperfection. The proposal generalizes the approach provided in clause 5.3.2(11) of EN 1993-1-1 for steel structures sensitive to flexural buckling under compression.Aguero Ramón Llin, A.; Pallarés Rubio, FJ.; Pallarés Rubio, L. Evolutionary indirect approach to solving trayectory planning problem for industrial robots

    No full text
In this paper, an indirect method for trajectory planning for industrial robots has been addressed using an evolutionary algorithm. The algorithm is divided into three stages: (1) The acquisition of Adjacent Configurations (AC) for Path Planning subjected to kinematics, geometric and obstacle avoidance constraints. (2) The acquisition of a collision-free path between initial and goal robot configurations. This path consists of a set of ACs, and (3) The acquisition of a temporal history of the evolution for the robot joint coordinates, by minimizing the required time subjected to actuator limits. This algorithm has been evaluated by comparing the results with the direct procedures proposed by Rubio articles in 2009 and 2010.Abu-Dakka, FJM.; Rubio Montoya, FJ.; Valero Chuliá, FJ.; Mata Amela, V. Experimental study on the response of seismically isolated masonry infilled steel frames during the initial stages of a seismic movement

    No full text
[EN] A novel seismic isolator is presented to detach the structural behavior from the infill effect during earth movements, with the aim of avoiding strong interactions. An experimental campaign was carried out to determine the influence of this isolator during the early stages of the seismic response of masonry-infilled steel frames, testing different configuration schemes to assess their effectiveness in terms of overall isolation, reduction of peak loads, strain levels and energy dissipation. The device was found to hinder the formation of the damaging diagonal compression struts by absorbing the relative displacements between frame and infill. The results achieved show that seismic interaction between infill panels and the structural skeleton can be faced from an isolation point of view.Authors want to express their gratitude to the Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad from Spain (Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness) and FEDER from European Commission for providing the financial support that made possible this study through the research projects BIA2012-35186 and BIA2015-70651-R.Pallarés Rubio, FJ.; Pallarés Rubio, L. State of the art of industrial masonry chimneys: A review from construction to strengthening

    No full text
This paper presents a review of the present state of research into industrial masonry chimneys and a detailed description of their characteristics. The first part is thus devoted to the history of these chimneys, how and why they were built, their dimensions, and the pathologies or causes that could lead to the need for their repair or strengthening. The second part reviews the different studies on industrial chimneys that can be found in the literature. These include aspects such as modelling and resistance to natural phenomena such as earthquakes. The work ends with the presentation of a proposed numerical model for the study of strengthening chimneys with Fibre Reinforced Polymer (FRP). © 2011 Elsevier Ltd.
