A Unified Shell model for Buoyancy-Driven Turbulence
No full textWe construct a unified shell model for stably stratified and convective turbulence. Shell model simulation of stably stratified flow in turbulent regime exhibit Bolgiano-Obukhbov (BO) scaling in which the kinetic energy spectrum varies as . However, simulation of convective turbulence shows Kolmogorov's spectrum. These results are consistent with the direct numerical simulations of Kumar {\em et al.} [Phys. Rev. E {\bf 90}, 023016 (2014)]. We also observe a dual scaling ( and ) for a limited range of parameters in stably stratified flow
Sweeping has no effect on renormalized turbulent viscosity
No full textWe perform renormalization group analysis (RG) of the Navier-Stokes equation in the presence of constant mean velocity field , and show that the renormalized viscosity is unaffected by , thus negating the ``sweeping effect", proposed by Kraichnan [Phys. Fluids {\bf 7}, 1723 (1964)] using random Galilean invariance. Using direct numerical simulation, we show that the correlation functions for and differ from each other, but the renormalized viscosity for the two cases are the same. Our numerical results are consistent with the RG calculations
Energy transfers in small-scale and large-scale dynamos
No full textWe study energy transfers during magnetic energy growth in small-scale and large-scale dynamos. We perform direct numerical simulations for magnetic Prandtl number Pm =20 and 0.2 in a periodic box on 1024^3 grid. Energy fluxes and shell-to-shell energy transfers indicate that in small-scale dynamo for Pm =20, the magnetic energy growth takes place due to a non-local energy transfer from large-scale velocity field to small-scale magnetic field. On the other hand, in large-scale dynamo for Pm =0.2, local energy transfers from large-scale velocity field to large-scale magnetic field takes place

Implicit large-eddy simulation of the stratocumulus-topped boundary layer: A grid sensitivity study
No full textA range of implicit large-eddy simulations of the stratocumulus-topped boundary layer is performed to study the influence of grid resolution on selected parameters including liquid water path and second and third moments of vertical velocity fluctuations. The simulations are based on two sets of aircraft measurements, which are also used to evaluate the results of the simulations. The specific case presented here indicates that simulations with a grid aspect ratio accounting for the anisotropic nature of the turbulence near the surface and at the top of the boundary layer lead to better agreement with measurements than simulations with an isotropic grid

No full textŠiame straipsnyje lyginamuoju aspektu analizuojami Adomo Galdiko skirtingų laikotarpių ir M.K. Čiurlionio peizažinės tapybos pagrindiniai stilistiniai bruožai bei juos formavę išoriniai veiksniai, atskleidžiami įvairiapusiai iki šiol giliau neanalizuoti Čiurlionio ir Galdiko peizažinės tapybos stilistiniai sąlyčio taškai, akcentuojant abiejų menininkų panašias vidines kūrybines intencijas ir dvasinį artumą. Šiandieniniame menotyros lauke kiek primiršta, kad Galdiko tiek ankstyvoji, tiek vėlyvoji kūryba kritikų Aleksis Rannito, Waldemaro George’o, Viktoro Vizgirdos, Stasio Goštauto, Vytauto Kazimiero Jonyno ir kt. buvo siejama su Čiurlionio simbolistine ir abstrakčia mąstysena. Galdiko ir Čiurlionio stilistinėms sąsajoms nemažai dėmesio taip pat skirta Antano Andrijausko išleistoje monografijoje apie A. Galdiką. Autorė panašiomis prieigomis giliau interpretuoja Galdiko ankstyvosios peizažinės tapybos stilistines metamorfozes į vėlyvąją abstraktaus ekspresionizmo kūrybą, paraleliai kūrybą lygindama su M.K. Čiurlionio peizažų simbolistinėmis ir abstrakčiomis gamtinėmis tapybinėmis stilistinėmis struktūromis. Pritaikant naujas metodologines prieigas nagrinėjant abstraktumo ir simboliškumo ryšius Galdiko ir Čiurlionio peizažinėse kompozicijose, naujame diskurse sušvinta Galdiko darbų problematika.In this article, the main stylistic features of landscape painting by Adomas Galdikas and M.K. Čiurlionis over the different periods are analysed, along with various external influences and artistic contexts that shaped them. It reveals diverse stylistic contact points between Čiurlionis and Galdikas landscape paintings, paying special attention to the similar inner creative intentions and spiritual closeness for both of the artists that have not been systematically analysed before. According to art critics such as Aleksis Rannit, Waldemar George, Viktoras Vizgirda, Stasys Goštautas, Vytautas Kazimieras Jonynas and contemporary art critic A. Andrijauskas, in the contemporary field of art criticism, it has been forgotten that the earlier and the later works of Adomas Galdikas are linked to M.K. Čiurlionis’s symbolic and abstract mindset. In this article, the author interprets stylistic metamorphosis in Galdikas’s early landscape paintings evolving into his late abstract art of expressionism more thoroughly. In parallel, the art of Adomas Galdikas is compared to M.K. Čiurlionis’ symbolistic and abstract forms of nature and other stylistic structures of landscape art. Applying new methodological approaches while analysing the abstract and symbolic connection between Galdikas and Čiurlionis landscape art, the problematics of Galdikas’ works are enlightened in a new discourse
