A study of student recruitment practices at Rowan University
Get PDFThis study provides advice to admissions counselors at Rowan University so they can better recruit prospective students.
For secondary research, the author did an online search of Rowan University\u27s Campbell Library databases, an Internet search and a book search at Gloucester County Library.
The author collected data from 269 surveys distributed to prospective students at one of seven open house events at Rowan University during the 2002/2003 academic school year.
Surveys showed that students visiting Rowan University\u27s one of seven open house events were happy with the overall program. Financial aid sessions proved to be the only part of the open house people were unhappy with.
The author also conducted seven in-depth interviews with admissions counselors from Rowan University\u27s Admissions Department.
The author found that Rowan University uses most recruitment techniques that recent research has shown to be effective. Although Rowan University effectively recruits prospective students, some changes need to be made to better recruit. Uses of technology and better assessment practices are examples of what changes need to be made

Rowan University faculty attitudes towards their role as advisors
Get PDFThis purpose of this study was to determine how selected full time tenured and tenure-track faculty members at Rowan University described their satisfaction with their faculty advising role. It examined the impressions of students that selected Rowan University full time tenured and tenure-track faculty reported in the areas of educational goals, program planning, personal and academic problems. Also, the issues that selected Rowan University full time tenured and tenure-track faculty face with their role as faculty advisor was investigated. The survey on Rowan University faculty attitudes toward their role as advisors was distributed to 264 Rowan University tenured and tenure-track faculty members. One hundred and two surveys were returned, yielding a response rate of 38.64%. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze the survey data. The information was explored using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS). The study found that Rowan University full time tenured and tenure-track faculty reported satisfaction with assisting students develop educational plans consistent with their goals. They also reported favorable impressions about their students. Also, the study found that Rowan University full time tenured and tenure-track faculty were less satisfied that the value of faculty advising is poorly recognized at Rowan University and that faculty advising is not considered in re-contracting and tenure reviews

An analysis of Rowan University fund raising and communication practices
Get PDFPublic colleges and universities need more income than government can provide. States now typically provide less than half the funding for public universities, like Rowan University. Alumni fund raising and other gifts bridge this gap. This study describes variables that affect donor motivation in other schools, and measures those variables among Rowan University subjects. The author applied a 16-question protocol to a purposive sample of 31. The sample was comprised of key fund raising personnel and target study subjects from students to college presidents in seven groups. Extensive individual commentary supplements the sample\u27s small size. The major findings clearly support the university\u27s promotion of its 10-year building plan, as well as its successful academic and sports programs. Sexual assault at Rowan University
Get PDFThe purpose of this study was to conduct a survey about sexual assault at Rowan University and to compare the survey results with reports from the Rowan University Crime Incidents Log. Data were collected anonymously from 531 male and female students from the Glassboro campus of Rowan University. Twenty-two students indicated they were sexually assaulted on or off campus from 2001 to March 2005. Three off-campus victims reported to police. None of the on-campus victims reported the crime to Rowan officials. Based on the results of this study, 5.2% of female students and 1.8% of male students surveyed indicated they had been sexually assaulted on or off campus. The rate of sexual assault reported in the Crime Incidents Log may be a severe underestimation. Over half of the victims said they chose not to report the crime because they had been under the influence of alcohol or other drugs when the assault occurred. None of the victims sought or received counseling
The impact of celebrity endorsements on the buying behavior of Rowan University students age 18-24
Get PDFThe purpose of this study was to determine the persuasiveness of celebrity endorsements on the purchase decisions of Rowan University students age 18-24, with specific regard to digital media players. The hypothesis of the study is that majority of Rowan students age 18-24 are persuaded to buy digital media players that are endorsed by celebrities they view favorably. The information gathered in the secondary research was used to develop questions for focus groups. The author of the study conducted two pre-test focus groups, after which the questions were modified. Once the questions were refined and finalized, the author conducted eight eight-person focus groups. Upon reviewing the results from the focus groups, the author found that most Rowan University students are not persuaded to purchase digital media players that are endorsed by celebrities they view favorably. Yo Importo: The Latina/o students\u27 experience at Rowan University
Get PDFThe purpose of this study was to determine whether Latino/a students at Rowan University felt as though they mattered. The subjects in this study consisted of undergraduate, full-time and part-time students at Rowan University enrolled during the 2014 Spring semester. Data were collected using the College Mattering Inventory, which consisted of 29 Likert scale items. The findings of this study revealed that Latina/o students at Rowan University generally have positive attitudes toward mattering in the subscales. Latina/o students at Rowan University reported the lowest levels of mattering in the general college mattering sub-scale and the Mattering to Students sub-scale. Overall there were only marginal differences in the mean scores of the study of Rowan University business transfer students by Johnston (2014), Rowan University residential students by McGuire (2012) and those of Rowan University Latina/o students
College student attitudes toward intercollegiate athletics at Rowan University
Get PDFThe purposes of this study were to (a) analyze undergraduate residential student attitudes towards athletics at Rowan University; (b) discern differences between self-identified student-athletes and non-athletes with respect to athletic programs at Rowan University in regards to resource allocation, corruption, relevance of athletics to the college experience, and academic matters of student-athletes; and (c) examine differences in attitudes of the student sample at Rowan University with previous studies. The survey tool that was utilized consisted of 44 items, which collected demographics and employed a series of Likert-style statements. The subjects consisted of 431 residential, undergraduate students at Rowan University enrolled in classes during the spring semester of 2016. The results of the study suggested that students at Rowan University are generally supportive of intercollegiate athletic programs. Results also indicated that there is an established difference of attitudes between the athlete and non-athlete sample toward intercollegiate athletics and that athletes report a more positive disposition. Finally, results conclude that student attitudes between athletes and non-athletes are similar between various institutions, regardless of size, NCAA division classification, or personal experience

With the rise of digital and open access publishing, however, it is important to have an understanding of open access especially in the context of the changing scholarly communication system. In this workshop, attendees will learn the current challenges in the scholarly communication system, understand the different pathways to open access and learn about the open access publishing opportunities that Rowan University Libraries has made available to Rowan authors via publisher agreements.
