Intervista a Riccardo Roselli (King Roselli)
Simulation and measurement of quasi-optical multipliers
The lumped-element finite-difference time-domain method is used to analyze quasi-optical multipliers based on diode loaded slot antennas. The method is validated firstly for a passive microstrip-fed structure then for the diode loaded case in both small- and large-signal regimes. The diode model is separately validated using a series diode mounted on a microstrip line. Input return loss and radiation patterns show good agreement with measurements and the concept of effective conversion loss is introduced and results show reasonable agreement between measurement and simulation. A new diode arrangement is introduced where dual offset diodes are placed in the slot instead of the conventional central diode. The diode position can then act as an extra design parameter. The performance of the two structures has been compared; currently best performance is still obtained for the central-diode structure. Finally, a fully quasi-optical structure is simulated with plane-wave excitation. Central and dual-diode structures are again compared and the diode position and input plane-wave field strengths are optimized. Slot voltage distributions, radiation patterns, and effective quasi-optical conversion losses are presente
Brain F-18 Fluorocholine PET/CT for the Assessment of Optic Pathway Glioma in Neurofibromatosis-1
A 22-year-old man diagnosed with neurofibromatosis-I was admitted to the neurology department because of progressive hemianopsia and chronic headache. Magnetic resonance imaging, magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS), and F-18 fluorocholine revealed a splenial mass with imaging features compatible with malignant astrocytoma. At follow-up examination, the sharp decrease in F-18 fluorocholine uptake and in choline/creatine ratio supported a conservative management. Molecular imaging of optic pathway gliomas may be a valuable tool in the selection of therapeutic options

The role of sentinel node biopsy in breast cancer management: an overview
Regional lymph nodes surgical management is an integral part of breast cancer therapy. One of the most important therapeutic problems is the risk of surgical treatment which is too wide or inadequate due to the lack of correct presurgical information on the conditions of regional lymph nodes. For melanoma the problem was solved combining surgical accuracy with the slightest surgical resection, using sentinel node biopsy. In breast cancer the removal of axillary nodes proved to be unnecessary in more than 50% of cases. The first international studies on the use of sentinel node biopsy in breast carcinoma for the identification of patients who do not need axillary clearance suggest the high accuracy of the technique. Some practical problems still exist, however, and the optimisation of the method is not yet complete. The use of sentinel node biopsy in breast cancer treatment might be able to provide distinctive clinical information, which can improve our knowledge about the disease?'s biological behaviour and about its treatment
A strong comparison principle for the p-laplacian
We consider weak solutions of the differential inequality of p-Laplacian type -(p)u - f(u) <= - Delta(p)v - f(v) such that u <= v on a smooth bounded domain in RN and either u or v is a weak solution of the corresponding Dirichlet problem with zero boundary condition. Assuming that u < v on the boundary of the domain we prove that u < v, and assuming that u equivalent to v equivalent to 0 on the boundary of the domain we prove u < v unless u equivalent to v. The novelty is that the nonlinearity f is allowed to change sign. In particular, the result holds for the model nonlinearity f(s) = s(q) - lambda s(p-1) with q > p - 1
Exploring Italian olive oil consumers’ purchasing behaviour: Interactions between geographical indication and organic labels
Since the first years of 90s, the European Union established two main quality schemes: geographical indications (GIs) and organic production (OP). Although, these two product categories still represent a small share of food market, quality certification schemes seems to sustain the food consumption pattern during the current economic crisis (ISMEA, 2014; ISMEAQualivita, 2017). There is a vast literature focusing on EU quality schemes applied to many food categories, including extra-virgin olive oil (EVOO) (e.g.: Scarpa & Del Giudice 2004; Aprile et al., 2012; Cicia et al., 2013; Di Vita et al., 2013; Carlucci et al., 2014; Panico et al. 2014; Del Giudice et al., 2015; Chinnici et al., 2016; Roselli et al., 2016; Boncinelli et al., 2017; Cavallo & Piqueras-Fiszman, 2017). However, in most of these studies GIs and OP have been separately analysed, under the assumption of independence. This paper aims to prove if there are some synergies between GIs and OP labels on olive oil products. Differently from previous studies, in this research the two certifications (GIs and OP) for olive oil products are simultaneously analysed while the independence from each other is checked. To reach this objective, the Italian olive oil consumers’ purchasing behaviour has been investigated through a survey involving a national representative sample of primary olive oil purchaser for household members
