For and against; should doctors advise young people to abstain from sex?
Against a background of high rates of teenage pregnancy and an increasing prevalence of sexually transmitted infections, the sexual conduct of young people is vigorously debated. Many teenagers later say that they had sexual intercourse "too early" but should doctors be advising young people to abstain from sex? Trevor Stammers, who is a tutor in general practice and an author and broadcaster on sexual health, and Roger Ingham, who has done research on sexual conduct and sex education in Britain and other countries, consider whether advising abstinence is an effective response to declining teenage sexual health

A vectorial Ingham-Beurling type theorem
International audienceBaiocchi et al. generalized a few years ago a classical theorem of Ingham and Beurling by means of divided differences. The optimality of their assumption has been proven by the third author of this note. The purpose of this note to extend these results to vector coefficient sum

NE Queensland (Georgetown, Einasleigh, Ingham), Qld, 1982-84. (P481), radiometric line data, AWAGS levelled
Maintenance and Update Frequency: notPlannedStatement: This NE Queensland (Georgetown, Einasleigh, Ingham), Qld, 1982-84. (P481), radiometric line data, AWAGS levelled is an airborne-derived radiometric data for the NE Queensland (Georgetown, Einasleigh, Ingham), Qld, 1982-84.. The data was acquired under the project No. 481 for the geological survey of QLD. A total of 36607 line-kilometres of data at a line spacing of 1500m were acquired during this survey. To constrain long wavelengths in the data, an independent data set, the Australia-wide Airborne Geophysical Survey (AWAGS) airborne magnetic data, was used to control the base levels of the survey data (Milligan et al., 2009). This survey data is essentially levelled to AWAGS. Noise-adjusted singular value decomposition (NASVD) has been applied to the data. NASVD is a spectral component analysis procedure for the removal of noise from gamma-ray spectra. Details of the specifications of individual airborne surveys can be found in the Fourteenth Edition of the Index of Airborne Geophysical Surveys (Percival, 2014). This Index is also available online at http://pid.geoscience.gov.au/dataset/79134.

Index of airborne geophysical surveys (Fourteenth Edition). The radiometric, or gamma-ray spectrometric method, measures the natural variations in the gamma-rays detected near the Earth's surface as the result of the natural radioactive decay of potassium (K), uranium (U) and thorium (Th). The data collected are processed via standard methods to ensure the response recorded is that due only to the rocks in the ground. The results produce datasets that can be interpreted to reveal the geological structure of the sub-surface. The processed data is checked for quality by GA geophysicists to ensure that the final data released by GA are fit-for-purpose.<br/> This NE Queensland (Georgetown, Einasleigh, Ingham), Qld, 1982-84. Portrait of a Parish: a history of St Patrick's Church and Parish, Ingham, 1864-1996
Portrait of a Parish, by Bianka Vidonja Balanzategui, is a well researched history of Saint Patrick's Church and Parish, Ingham, Queensland, Australia. It covers the period from 1864 to 1996. The Irish migrants who settled the district were soon joined by many Italians and some political confrontation was inevitable. The end of World War II heralded a period of reconciliation and intermarriages, as well as consolidation of rural and service industries. The author traces the pivotal and changing role of Catholic Religious in the church, education and social fabric of the community. She has produced a comprehensive history, complete with a unique collection of archival photographs, extensive source notes and references as well as appendices listing the dates of key events as well as the names of serving clergy and nuns
An exploration of the psychosocial factors affecting the development and delivery of school-based sex and relationships education in Tanzania
Employing a mixed methods research design, in which both quantitative and qualitative research approaches were used, the research in this thesis has explored the feasibility for the development and implementation of school-based sex and
relationships education (SRE) in Tanzania by (a) assessing the attitudes of parents, teachers and students towards the provision of SRE in schools and (b) analysing national school policy and curriculum frameworks with a view to identifying the
status and place of SRE in the national school curriculum. The results show that a majority of parents (more than 70%), teachers (more than 90%) and students (more than 80%) supported the provision of SRE in schools and, despite resistance to a few controversial topics, the inclusion of a wide range of SRE topics in a school-based SRE curriculum. These results suggest that, contrary to popular belief that, particularly among policy makers, parents and other stakeholders are opposed to the provision of SRE in schools, it is not the opposition itself, but the unfounded fear of opposition that has thwarted the provision of school-based SRE in Tanzania. The results of the content analysis of the national school curriculum revealed a limited and somewhat disorganised representation of SRE, with more focus on the biological
facts and information about HIV transmission and prevention than other aspects of sexual health, such as attitudes, skills and relationships. It has been argued, however, that putting HIV/AIDS in the national school curriculum provides the possibility of
opening the way for a wider provision of SRE in schools in future (Harrison, 2000). In light of the results of this research, the author has recommended several steps to be considered in introducing SRE in schools, as well as future research directions in the field of sexual health, and SRE in particular, in Tanzania

SONIC INTERVENTIONS: SILENCE, SOUND, AND MELODY IN MEDIEVAL LITERATURE
Thesis (Ph.D.) - Indiana University, Department of English, 2024In “Sonic Interventions: Silence, Sound, and Melody in Medieval Literature,” I examine five early literary texts, spanning from the late-fifth to early-fifteenth-century: Geoffrey Chaucer’s Troilus and Criseyde, the anonymous Le Roman de Silence, the aptly named Book of Margery Kempe, John Gower’s “Apollonius of Tyre” and the anonymous, late fifth-century Historia Apollonii Regis Tyri. These five works may differ in author, time of composition, and genre, but I yoke these stories together because of each author's treatment of agency and the sonic. In response to the latter, many texts from past and present include representations of sound, but there is more regarding the sonic in these five works than the mere presence of such a literary feature. What joins these five works is how each author draws upon sound as an alternative way to animate their marginalized characters when their voices fail. Even when voice proves to be impossible for myriad reasons, these early literary works showcase marginalized characters that can temporarily rebel, refute, and resist through their author's orchestration of what I refer to as “sonic expressions” or the ability to express through sound. In this dissertation, I examine expressions of silence, laughter, weeping, and song. As a result, I argue that each author repositions minoritized character(s) from the margins of the text to its center because the agency sound affords these figures, however temporarily. When marginalized voices are silenced, oppressed, or ignored in the story, their sonic expressions still pulsate across the page
