We present a geological-stratigraphical study aimed to provide chronologic constraints to the sea-level markers occurring at two coastal caves of central Italy (Grotta Guattari and Grotta dei Moscerini) and to the Neanderthal frequentation of these caves, in the light of recent archaeological and geomorphological-geochronological studies suggesting similar sea levels during MIS 5.5 and MIS 5.3, and only few m below the Present during MIS 5.1 in this region. Based on the review of previous literature data, combined with new stratigraphic observations at Grotta Guattari and re-analysis of archive material including unpublished field notes from Grotta dei Moscerini, we reconstruct a plausible sea-level history accounting for the lithological and paleoenvironmental features of their sedimentary fillings. In particular, we outline the abundant occurrence of well-rounded pumice clasts within the sedimentary deposits of Moscerini Cave, attesting for the proximity to the beach where this pumice was gathered by wave action. Through the petrographic and geochemical analysis of this pumice we evidence provenance from Phlegraean Fields and Ischia Island volcanic districts, framing their chronology in the time span 118–40 ka, consistent with literature ESR-U/Th dates providing ages ranging 101 ± 5–74 ± 7 ka for the sedimentary filling of both Moscerini and Guattari caves

MarciaTesta: An Automatic Generator of Test Programs for Microprocessors' Data Caches

SBST (Software Based Self-Testing) is an effective solution for in-system testing of SoCs without any additional hardware requirement. SBST is particularly suited for embedded blocks with limited accessibility, such as cache memories. Several methodologies have been proposed to properly adapt existing March algorithms to test cache memories. Unfortunately they all leave the test engineers the task of manually coding them into the specific Instruction Set Architecture (ISA) of the target microprocessor. We propose an EDA tool for the automatic generation of assembly cache test program for a specific architectur

Cava muracci: A new middle-upper palaeolithic site in west-central Italy

Comprehensive studies of Palaeolithic sites and the application of modern analytical techniques are still incredibly rare in coastal central Italy. In this paper, we present the Middle-Upper Palaeolithic cave deposits excavated in the travertine quarry of Cava Muracci (Cisterna di Latina, central Italy) and summary describe the multidisciplinary approach carried out on findings discovered therein. A large faunal assemblage, fossil faeces (coprolites) and a small lithic collection have been examined along with reliable dating analyses for the interpretation of the context. The site proved to be extensively frequented by cave hyena (Crocuta crocuta spelaea) between 34–44 ka BP, with a marginal human presence also attested. This study demonstrates that a holistic approach is crucial for enhancing our understanding of the archaeological context of the area, previously interpreted using studies of fauna or lithic industries alone. The evidence gathered from Cava Muracci and the results from their study provide a valuable reference database from which to draw upon for future investigations
