This article analyzes focuses on Màrius Torres’ situation in the context of European poetry in the first third of the twentieth century: as a reader and author, as a translator and with attention to his interest in great poetical trends of the time. The analysis is based on three elements: Màrius Torres’ poetry translations; his affinities with some significant European poets, and the commentary of some representative poems: «La màscara», «En el silenci obscur d'unes parpelles closes...», «Abendlied,» which illustrate the situation of his poetry in an European context

An early Miocene arc-tholeiitic magmatic dike event from the Alboran Sea — Evidence for precollisional subduction and back-arc crustal extension in the westernmost Mediterranean

    No full text
A discussion is made on the general significance of an Early Miocene (22–23 Ma, K/Ar dating) basaltic dike swarm that outcrops within large areas of the central and western Betic Zone of the Betic Cordilleras (Southern Spain). This dike swarm is thought to represent the remains of one of the earliest magmatic episodes within the the Neogene volcanic province that is associated with the late orogenic evolution of the Alboran region, and undoubtedly offers the best preserved igneous material related to this early stage that is known at present. The dike rocks (hypabyssal equivalents of andesitic basalts and basaltic andésites) have both major and trace-element abundance patterns that are akin to those of arc-tholeiitic suites. The field relationships and areal distribution of the dike swarm suggest, on the other hand, that a major E-W-trending rifting belt could have been developing within the Alboran Block in oligo-miocene times, previous to its collision with adjacent continental borderlands in the Early-Middle Miocene. Because of their magmatic character and wide distribution, it is proposed that these dike rocks may be regarded as an indication of the existence of roughly contemporaneous (Oligo-Miocene) Benioff-Wadati zone activity under the Alboran Area, which also points towards the previous existence of subductable lithosphere in its surroundings. The main dilatational vector during dike emplacement was already normal to the present E-W stretching of the Alboran Basin proper, which also adds to the possibility that the latter had already started to individualize tectonically in Oligo-Miocene times, and that some of its present crustal features, especially a prominent E-W-trending pattern of magnetic anomalies, had been generated in relation with the dike event. Continued postcollisional Middle Miocene to Pliocene calc-alkaline to ultrapotassic volcanism in the same area could hence have resulted from decompression partial melting of an already contaminated, and still thermally anomalous, mantle wedge, connected with the occurrence of traverse strike-slip and extensional deep faulting within a crustal segment that stretches from southeastern Spain to Morocco

National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health plan 2013-2023

In 2008 Australian Governments committed to work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people on an incredibly important task - to achieve equality in health status and life expectancy between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and non-Indigenous Australians by the year 2031. The commitment – in the form of the Close the Gap Statement of Intent – creates the platform for this National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Plan, which has been developed in partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their representatives. This Health Plan provides a long-term, evidence-based policy framework as part of the overarching Council of Australian Governments’ (COAG) approach to Closing the Gap in Indigenous disadvantage, which has been set out in the National Indigenous Reform Agreement (NIRA) signed in 2008. The NIRA has established a framework of national targets and policy building blocks. Two of the Closing the Gap targets, to halve the gap in child mortality by 2018 and close the life expectancy gap by 2031, go directly to health outcomes, while others address social determinants of health such as education and employment. The Health Plan builds on the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. It adopts a strengths-based approach to ensure policies and programs improve health, social and emotional wellbeing, and resilience and promote positive health behaviours. It emphasises the centrality of culture in the health of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and the rights of individuals to a safe, healthy and empowered life. The Health Plan also builds on existing strategies and planning approaches to improving Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health,

    No full text
Overview The National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cancer Framework (the Framework) provides high-level guidance and direction for the many individuals, communities, organisations and governments whose combined efforts are required to address disparities and improve cancer outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This Framework is designed to complement and enhance national, jurisdictional, regional and local efforts to improve Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cancer outcomes, including cancer plans and related policies, frameworks and action plans. It sets out priority areas for action, and allows the flexibility for jurisdictions, communities and organisations to address those priorities in ways that suit their local context and local needs. This Framework encompasses the full continuum of cancer control, including cancer prevention, screening and early detection, diagnosis and treatment, palliative care and survivorship; and the policy, systems, research and infrastructure that surround these service areas

The travels of the freed barbarian: questions in R. Roldan-Roldan's prose

Roldan-Roldan is the author of a literary work that encompasses short stories, poetry, novels, and dramaturgy. One of his hallmarks is the recurrence of themes related to travel: identity, foreignness, alterity, exclusion, and exile. Starting from the travel narrative genre, the novel O bárbaro liberto (Mnaloah) is taken as an object of study, to investigate how those recurrences, cross this text specifically. Divided into two chapters, this dissertation is based on theoretical works such as Jerry Harrell Bentley (2004), Mary Anne Junqueira (2011) and James Clifford (1999) to outline an overview of the origin and historical evolution of the genre. On the other hand, discussions about the characteristics and limits of the genre are based on the approaches of authors such as Sofía M. Carrizo Rueda (2008), Luis Alburquerque-García (2011), Jonathan Culler (1999) and Sandra Nitrini (1998). In addition to escaping from a conventional travel pattern, the thematic axis of Roldan-Roldan's writing is inserted in a metalinguistic and intertextual perspective. Thus, the methodology uses, comparatively, the interactions that R. Roldan-Roldan's narrative establishes with other authors, cinema, theater and music as an analysis resource that highlights the particularities of the plot, narrator, space, time and characters. The identification, encounters, and dialogues between the narrator-character and the Other, as a social, cultural, and political subject are considered from the points of view of Edward Said (2013), Márcio Seligmann-Silva (2010) and Vilém Flusser (2011) and the paradigm proposed by Hal Foster (2014): the artist as ethnographer. The central objective of the dissertation, therefore, is to describe how the narrative is constituted, to analyze and interpret what the motivations, choices and meanings are contained in Roldan's prose journeys, as well as to discuss how the author's literature debates the relationships and the encounter with the Other.Não recebi financiament
