Multizone thermal modelling and temperature control of indoor environment

    No full text
Heating ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system is now an integral part of a modern building to achieve occupants' comfort by regulating air parameters like temperature, humidity, etc. So, an optimal operation of the HVAC system is necessary for building energy management but a difficult task due to nonlinear dynamics and stochastic heat gain from the outside and inside activity of a thermal system. In this paper, a temperature control strategy is demonstrated using a domestic air conditioning system for an indoor area considered as multi-zone thermal plant. The grey-box thermal resistance-capacitance based linear modelling approach is adopted to model the dynamic behaviour of an indoor thermal system and a population-based optimization technique is utilized to design an optimal proportional-integral (PI) controller to control the zone temperature by varying air volume through indoor air conditioning system in a real-time manner in presence of environmental disturbances and random occupants' movement. The results obtained demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed control strategy.</p
