Les fonds d'archives grecs de l'Italie du Sud et de Sicile. Un miroir pour l'Athos?
No full textAndré Guillou began publishing the Greek documents of Southern Italy shortly before the appearance of the third volume of the Archives de l’Athos (Actes de Xéropotamou, 1964). The first volume, published in 1963, was followed by six other in the series Corpus des actes grecs d’Italie du Sud et de Sicile (1974–2009). Additional publications have appeared since then. Thanks to this editorial work we may now attempt a comparison of the Italian documentary body with the already well-known Athonite material, which may permit a better understanding of the regional particularities of the documents. More than a thousand documents written in Southern Italy survive from the Byzantine and Angevin periods (10th–14th centuries), covering an area extending from Latium to Sicily. They comprise public and semi-public documents, private documents, inventories and minutes. The private acts, which have been neglected by both historians and scholars of diplomatics, deserve particular attention. Mostly preserved in the original, many are still unpublished or have appeared only in unreliable editions, dating from the 18th and 19th centuries. Taking stock of all the documentation available to date, this paper focuses on the history of the archives and on the policies of document conservation during medieval and modern times

No full textThe aim of this paper is to examine the literary and documentary sources produced in the ninth- and tenth-century border contexts of Sicily and Apulia, two western regions still central to imperial policy at the time. The former between Byzantium and Islam, and the latter almost reconquered by Latin Lombards, these regions appear as an excellent field for revisiting the Greekspeaking turn of the empire in the middle centuries. The monolingualism of the state was adapted to the plurilingualism of society by means of various strategies that ensured a long western history for Byzantine Hellenism

Both documents are drawn up according to Greek legal norms, but included notes of. confirmation and validation, written in Arabic, which utilize and adapt legal formulae and styles established in the Islamic legal sphere. Each, in its different way, point to a certain synthesis, or fusion, of Greek-Byzantine and Muslim practice, and a juridical multiculturalism that one can find also in other inter-religious contexts

Ferric carboxymaltose for patients with heart failure and iron deficiency in Italy: cost-effectiveness and budget impact
No full textAim: To evaluate the cost–effectiveness of intravenous ferric carboxymaltose (FCM) versus placebo for the
management of iron deficiency in patients with chronic heart failure in the Italian healthcare system and
to estimate its impact on the national healthcare budget. Materials & methods: A Markov model was
developed to project costs and health outcomes over 1 year, based on data from literature. Healthcare
resources consumption was derived from an e-survey administered to clinicians. Costs were obtained from
official tariffs. Results: Treatment with FCM represents a dominant strategy compared with placebo, leading
to national budget annual savings of 20–97 million Euros, according to different increasing utilization
rates. Conclusion: FCM is a cost-saving option for the treatment of chronic heart failure patients with iron
deficiency in Italy
