Raising Awareness About Ovarian Cancer
On Thursday September 17, Dr Lorna Rodriguez, Chief of Gynecological Oncology at the Cancer Institute of NJ, spoke at the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund's "Super Luncheon", hosted at the Governor's Mansion. Afterward we had a chance to sit down and ask Dr. Rodriguez a few questions about Ovarian Cancer and what steps women can take to protect themselves.

Organisational knowledge integration: towards a conceptual framework
This study analyses organisational knowledge integration processes from a multi-level and systemic perspective, with particular reference to the case of Fujitsu. A conceptual framework for knowledge integration is suggested focusing on team-building capability, capturing and utilising individual tacit knowledge, and communication networks for integrating dispersed specialist knowledge required in the development of new products and services. The research highlights that knowledge integration occurring in the innovation process is a result of knowledge exposure, its distribution and embodiment and finally its transfer, which leads to innovation capability and competitive advantage in firm

Stunned Into Being: Essays on the Poetry of Lorna Dee Cervantes
Lorna Dee Cervantes is a pivotal figure throughout the Chicano literary movement and this book gathers 30 years\u27 worth of essays and articles about her as well as interviews with her. A fifth-generation Californian of Mexican and Native American (Chumasch) heritage, Cervantes is widely considered one of the most important Latina poets who drew tremendous power from her struggles in the literary and political trenches. This work explores the boundaries between language and experience and features a new collection of poems by the dynamic poet
Tesi
Lorna Sage writing: a reader's view
Lorna Sage was a British literary critic and university professor whose writing for public media during the last three decades of the 20th century contributed to the postwar dialogue on feminist literary criticism. Lorna Sage Writing: A Reader's View presents an interpretive history of her writing, organized around the time line of her childhood years, her entrance into a professional world unavailable to women in previous generations, and her thirty years of writing criticism, entertaining, scholarly, and focused on fiction and rhetoric by and about women. To this day, her writing creates as a bridge between the author and the reader, informing and encouraging both to meet somewhere between

Abstract 5323: Obesity and ovarian cancer survival revisited
Abstract
Research on the impact of obesity on ovarian cancer survival is inconsistent but previous studies did not consider the possible impact of ascites, bowel obstruction, or cachexia, which commonly occur in late-stage disease. We evaluated this association in a cohort study of primary invasive epithelial ovarian cancers diagnosed from 2000-2013 in Kaiser Permanente Northern California (KPNC) (n=1,157). Deaths were identified through December 2014, with median follow-up of 37 months. Proportional hazards regression was used to estimate overall and ovarian cancer-specific mortality, accounting for prognostic variables including age at diagnosis, race, stage, grade, histology, comorbidities, treatment, post-treatment CA125 levels, ascites, and bowel obstruction. There was no evidence of an association between BMI and overall or ovarian cancer-specific survival. However, we found strong effect modification by stage (Pinteraction<.01). Compared to normal pre-diagnosis BMI (18.5-24.9 kg/m2), for women who were obese before diagnosis (BMI≥35 kg/m2) risk of ovarian cancer-specific mortality was increased among those diagnosed at stages I/II (Hazard ratio [HR]: 3.40; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.16-9.99), but reduced among those diagnosed with stage IV disease (HR: 0.58; 95%CI: 0.35-0.96). Associations persisted after excluding those diagnosed with cachexia (n=91) and further adjusting for ascites and bowel obstruction, with no evidence of effect modification by these factors. Associations of obesity with ovarian cancer survival differ by stage, with decreased survival among those with localized disease and increased survival among those with late-stage disease. Stage-specific effects of obesity on survival suggest a tailored approach to improve prognosis may be appropriate.
