No full textQuesto primo volume della Collana degli Strumenti si apre con un importante contributo di Giangiacomo Martines che introduce il tema del rapporto tra architettura e geometria nel mondo classico, portando esempi e inedite testimonianze frutto della grande esperienza dell’Autore, maturata in anni di studio e di contatto diretto con i più grandi monumenti del mondo romano. Alla voce di Martines si accompagnano poi, in un contrappunto ideale, quelle di alcuni giovani studiosi, che in diverse occasioni hanno affrontato il medesimo tema. Carlo Inglese espone alcuni notevoli risultati della sua ricerca sui tracciati di cantiere nell’antichità; Beatrice Angelini illustra recenti scoperte sulla complessa geometria della scala a chiocciola del Bramante, in Vaticano; Daniele Di Marzio ed Erminia Sciacchitano propongono due ricerche bibliografiche, rispettivamente dedicate al disegno e alla geometria della foglia di acanto e al tema generale di questo volume. No full textLo sforzo fatto in questi anni per avvicinare sempre più numerosi i medici ai metodi e agli strumenti della biomeccanica ha dato eccellenti risultati e pare evidente che la competitività professionale e la continua offerta tecnologica giustifichino e rendano necessario l’aggiornamento anche su temi che solo in apparenza non sono di immediato interesse per la pratica clinica.
Perché le viti degli impianti talvolta si svitano? Come si trasmette lo sforzo dall’impianto all’osso? Come e perché si rompono gli impianti? Cosa vuol dire qualità di prodotto per un impianto dentale? Quali sono gli effetti sull’osso del mismatch fra sovrastruttura e impianti? Queste sono alcune delle domande alle quali la biomeccanica può dare una risposta. Il libro “Introduzione alla biomeccanica per l’implantologia dentale” ha come obiettivo quello di fornire una base conoscitiva per poter approfondire tematiche di biomeccanica che sempre di più si presentano come indispensabili per saper interpretare il funzionamento nel tempo degli impianti nell’osso.
Il libro presenta alcuni degli aspetti clinici che maggiormente sono influenzati dalla biomeccanica e li pone come questioni aperte. Successivamente, in un linguaggio facile e immediato, sono introdotti i concetti di base della biomeccanica. La parte più applicativa presenta alcuni esempi derivanti da problemi clinici nei quali la biomeccanica ha consentito di capire e interpretare i fenomeni che avvengono.
Il libro è rivolto ai medici dentisti e agli odontoiatri che sono interessati ad approfondire le loro conoscenze sulla biomeccanica degli impianti dentali. Tutti gli argomenti sono presentati nell’ipotesi che i lettori non abbiano familiarità con la biomeccanica e quindi tutte le nozioni elementari necessarie per il comprendere il testo sono fornite nel testo stesso

No full textRiccardo Boglione sent copies of Shakespeare’s The Tempest to twelve artists living in Europe and America, each copy in the language of the country of residence of the artists, asking them to leave the book outside to the weather for as long as they wanted. The pages from those mistreated volumes reconstruct a Frankensteinian version of the play. In an extension of the metaphor of the tempest, the author gathers a small collection of injured volumes, mimicking Prospero’s book. Simultaneously he produces a version of Shakespeare’s play that shakes notions of authority (who is the real author? The invited artists? The English Bard? Boglione? The translators? Bad weather? Time?) and aesthetics (the ‘work’ of rain, snow, wind, and sun transformed the text’s characteristics, giving it a sculptural dimension that obfuscates its literary one). At stake once again, the perpetual dualisms: objects and words, nature and culture, Old and New World.

No full textThis paper looks at the genesis of innovation in the U.S. from a territorial perspective. The analysis aims to disentangle the impact of local research and development (R&D) expenditure from other contextual conditions supportive of the process of innovation. Particular emphasis is devoted to the role of socio-economic factors and systems of innovation (“social filter” conditions) and to their impact on the returns of R&D expenditure in different territorial contexts. The empirical analysis is based on a regional knowledge production function approach, leading to an empirical model estimated by means of panel data analysis for the period between 1994 and 2007 at the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis-Economic Area level. The results unveil the complexity of the territorial dynamics of innovation of the U.S. Local R&D investments are important predictors for regional innovative performance and their impact is highly localised. However, social filter conditions are fundamental for the productivity of innovation efforts

The macroeconomics of the public sector deficit : the case of Morocco
No full textThis paper tries to uncover the reasons underlying the performance of the Moroccan economy. The author argues that wage moderation and judicious monetary policies were instrumental in restraining inflation. With one brief exception in 1983, monetary authorities remained firmly committed to eschew any inflationary financing of the budget deficit. This strategy could only succeed however because of the wide ranging system of credit and monetary regulations which worked to channel domestic funds toward the Treasury at relatively low costs. The prospects for the continuation of such a strategy are not favourable however. As far as the growth performance is concerned, it appears that it can be attributed to an outstanding export response to the new trade regime on the one hand and a set of favourable supply shocks, including a string of recordagricultural harvests and the collapse of real oil prices, on the other. The paper studies the evolution of the budget and its different components and argues that the reluctance by Morocco's policy makers to monetize existing budget deficits is well explained by the sharply unfavourable trade-offs between higher monetization and inflation existing in Morocco. It analyzes the implications that continuing budgetary disequilibria has on investment and saving decisions and finds that such implications may be substantial, even though they may not work their way exclusively through traditional interest rates channels.Economic Theory&Research,Environmental Economics&Policies,Banks&Banking Reform,Public Sector Economics&Finance,Financial Intermediation
