Desarrollo de un sistema de registro dinámico de presiones plantares
No full textEstá bien establecido que la cuantificación de la distribución de las presiones plantares provee información valiosa acerca de la estructura y función de las articulaciones del pie y del tobillo, que puede ser utilizada como una herramienta clínica y de investigación importante en el análisis de la locomoción humana. Considerando estos antecedentes, el objetivo de este trabajo fue optimizar un dispositivo prototipo para el registro dinámico de presiones plantares, previamente desarrollado en base a una plantilla instrumentada con sensores piezoeléctricos. Tal optimización consistió en el procesamiento digital de las señales adquiridas mediante integración numérica de la señal de entrada, sin necesidad de utilizar la etapa de amplificación electrométrica, lo cual no sólo simplifica el hardware implementado, sino también la etapa de calibración estática y dinámica requerida. End-point estimates for iterated commutators of multilinear singular integrals
No full textIterated commutators of multilinear Calderón-Zygmund operators and pointwise multiplication with functions in BMO are studied in products of Lebesgue spaces. Both strong type and weak end-point estimates are obtained, including weighted results involving the vectors weights of the multilinear Calderon-Zygmund theory recently introduced in the literature. How corporate governance and globalization can run afoul of the law and good practices in business: The Enron's disgraceful affair.
No full textThe purpose of this paper is to set out the Enron’s demise into the perspective of Corporate and Global Governance. To accomplish this target, the incremental cash flow model is expanded to give room for governance issues, while a functional introduction to information sets is developed, including bounded rationality, asymmetric information, opportunistic behavior, transaction costs and agency problems. Then, corporate governance is linked to globalization by means of some recent approaches that go beyond a narrow economic mindset to encompass a far-reaching dynamics. Taking advantage of such background, the Enron’s story is tracked down over a span of fifteen years since its starting day to its bankruptcy filing. Leading events are explained from corporate and global governance viewpoints, while an in-depth analysis is worked out on Enron’s complex game of deception and breach of contracts: the outrageous affiliated limited partnerships, the lavish pay package to its executives, the involvement with global governance through the Indian affair and the Taliban connection. It is for the incremental cash flow model to explain malfeasance with cash flows from assets, and how cash flows to creditors were actually contrived. Furthermore, to highlight how cash flows were swindled from stockholders and, finally, how Enron made wheeling and dealing with cash flows on behalf of its managers.corporate governance, global governance, incremental cash flow model, globalization, information sets, good practices.

No full textEsta cuarta edición de la revista Generaciones UNAB, gira en torno a la celebración de los 40 años de inicio de labores de la Facultad de Derecho, cuyo primeros 25 graduados obtuvieron su título en 1978; así como a la celebración de los primeros 30 años de inicio de labores de la Facultad de Comunicación Social que graduó a sus primeros 17 estudiantes en 1987.

The Demographic Transition and the Sexual Division of Labor
No full textThis paper presents a theory where increases in female labor force participation and reductions in the gender wage-gap are generated as part of the same process of demographic transition that leads to reductions in fertility. There have been significant increases in the labor supply of women in the last decades, both in developed and developing countries. Traditional views explain this trend through the effects of reduced fertility and/or increased women's wages. The paper suggests that all these changes can be understood as part of a single process of demographic change, triggered by reductions in mortality. Mortality reductions affect the incentives of individuals to invest in human capital and to have children. Particularly, gains in adult longevity reduce fertility, increase investments in market human capital, increase female labor force participation, and reduce the wage differential between men and women. Child mortality reductions cannot generate this same pattern of changes. The model reconciles the increase in female labor market participation with the timing of age-specific mortality reductions observed during the demographic transition. The paper presents the first model to link the change in the role of women in society to, ultimately, the reductions in mortality that characterize the demographic transitiongender wage gap, demographic transition, female labor force participation
