    Excavation at Aguas Buenas, Robinson Crusoe Island, Chile, of a gunpowder magazine and the supposed campsite of Alexander Selkirk, together with an account of early navigational dividers

    Excavations were undertaken of a ruined building at Aguas Buenas, identified as an 18th-century Spanish gunpowder magazine. Evidence was also found for the campsite of an early European occupant of the island. A case is made that this was Alexander Selkirk, a castaway here from 1704 to 1709. Selkirk was the model for Defoe’s Robinson Crusoe. A detailed discussion is given of a fragment of copper alloy identifi ed as being from a pair of navigational dividers

    The National Museum of the Pacific War presents an interview with Leonard Robinson. Robinson is a pastor. He was drafted into the Army in March 1941. In Fort Bliss he was put in the 200th Coast Artillery. He was shipped to the Philippines in September 1941. He had experience using the 30 and 50 caliber machine guns. On the Philippines, they were bombed for 10 hours on December 8th. He discusses his time on the Philippines before and after the Japanese took over. He was on a 50 caliber machine gun and guarded the 3-inch antiaircraft units. He was part of the first group captured at Cabcaban. He discusses his experiences as a prisoner of war, on the Bataan Death March, Camp O’Donnell and Cabanatuan. In September 1943 he was moved from Cabanatuan to Nagoya, Japan to work as slave labor on the dock. He also served as chaplain in Nagoya. He was liberated on September 5, 1945 and returned home on troop transport planes

    [MD] Alma Robinson joined the Georgetown University in September 1982. She began her career in the Undergraduate Admissions Office on Main Campus. After two and one half years, she transferred to the Office of the Dean at the Law Center. Alma served as administrative assistant for Associate Deans Judith Areen and the late Steven Goldberg, during the administration of Dean Robert Pitofsky. She later served as executive assistant to Deans Judith Areen, Alexander Aleinikoff and William Treanor. In 2011, she transferred to the Law Center Development Office. After over thirty years of service, Alma retired in May 2013.Interview conducted by Mitos Parabot at the E.B. Williams Law Library
