The adsignatio libertorum seems to be introduced ex senatus consulto (the so called Ostorianum) during Claudius's reign ("claudianis temporibus"), while Suillius Rufus and Ostorius Scapula were holding the consulship (41 or maybe 45 a. D.). Through it, the paterfamilias can transfer the whole body of iura patronatus to one among his sons, leaving out all the others. The adsignatio shows the peculiarity of a personal beneficium. In fact, it can be used una tantum only by the patronus manumissor who fears, if sentenced for a crimen capitalis, the capitis deminutio media signified by the expression "in civitate esse desinere" which can be read in the senatus consultum. In doing so, he can avoid, for himself and for his offspring, the otherwise automatic extinction of patronatus, as a result of the dissolution of the agnatic bond due to amissio civitatis

    Annibale

Nord Africa, 237 a.

New piperazino derivatives of formula ##STR1## in which R is a phenyl radical substituted with at least one sulphonamido group or a substituted nitrogenated heterocyclic ring, and A is CO, CH2, SO2, possessing inhibiting activity towards carbonic anhydrase. The new products are prepared from compounds of formula R-A-X in which X is OH, SH, halogen, OR"" or SR"" in which R"" is methyl, ethyl, phenyl, carbomethoxy, carboethoxy, and from a piperazino derivative of formula ##STR2## The R' group can also be introduced on termination of the reaction, by removing and substituting a protective group present at the nitrogen. R is 2-methoxy-5-sulphamoyl-phenyl, 2-sulphamoylimidazyl, 2-amino-1,3,4-thiadiazole or 2-acetamido-1,3,4-thiadiazole; R' is H, linear or branched C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl; linear or branched C.sub.2 -C.sub.6 alkenyl; alkyl-phenyl or alkenyl-phenyl, wherein phenyl is optionally monosubstituted with halogen, trihalomethyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkoxy, or sulphonamido; C.sub.2 -C.sub.6 aliphatic acyl; C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 alkylcarboxyalkoxy; alkyl-carboxyamino in which the alkyl is C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 and the amine is mono or disubstituted by linear or branched C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl and; R" is H, or together with R' forms a 5 or 6 membered ring condensed with the piperazine; provided that when R is a substituted phenyl group and A is CO, R' is other than H, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl or benzyl

Preliminary Assessment of Rice Husk Ash (RHA) as Functional Interphase Agent in Sustainable Composite Systems for Structural Strengthening

    No full text
Over the last few years, the effectiveness of textile-reinforced mortar (TRM) composite systems for structural retrofitting has led to the widespread adoption of these materials in the practice and to the issue of up-to-date design guidelines. Nonetheless, the weak interfacial bonding that is frequently observed between matrix and fibres is likely to cause inconsistent failure modes and, generally speaking, to severely limit the reinforcing potential of the textile. A promising solution to tackle this issue consists in treating the surface of the reinforcing fibres with a functional coating to improve the adhesion at the interphase. In this paper, a pilot study is presented to assess the effectiveness of a fully sustainable polymer coating, consisting in polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) loaded with with rice husk ash (RHA) or with a 50/50 mixture of RHA and silica fume (SF). The coating was applied on basalt fabrics to reinforce TRM coupons that were mechanically tested under uni-axial tensile loads. The mechanical properties of the TRM samples were significantly increased by up to 20%, and the peak load was attained at a higher deformability level, which is a clue of the enhanced ductility of the reinforced elements
