    Crostis caperata Prena & Anderson new species Diagnosis. Total length 2.3–2.6 mm; body form oblong-ovate, L/W elytra 1.25–1.31 (Figs. 9–10). Characteristic for this species of Crostis are (i) transverse pronotum with disc with very fine erect hairs (especially visible in lateral view), longitudinally striate or with striae broken into elongate punctures, flanks glossy, impunctate (Figs. 15–16), (ii) length of first funicular article slightly shorter than combined lengths of articles 2–4, (iii) punctures of ventrites I and II small, shallow, large areas of ventrites almost impunctate, glossy, and (iv) penis with apex truncate, slightly expanded laterally towards midlength, endophallus distally with elongate, slender, basally sinuate endophallite with pair of flexible, dorsal prongs in basal third, apodemes ca. 2.6× longer than length of penis body (Fig. 22). Etymology. The name is a Latin adjective meaning wrinkled. Natural history. All known specimens have been sifted from leaf litter in hardwood forests from 2300–2650 m elevation. Material examined.     61. Theognete weadockae Anderson, new species (Figures 161, 196) Diagnosis. Size. Length, male, 2.42–3.34mm; female, 2.94–3.94mm. Width, male, 1.36–1.64mm; female, 1.70–1.98mm. As for T. clavisetosa except pronotal punctures and vestiture denser; flanks with punctures distinct, separate, without sulci. Scales of both pronotum and elytra arched. Punctures of ventrite 5 very fine and small. Aedeagus as in Fig. 196. Geographical distribution. México (Chiapas). Natural history. Collected from berlese extraction of mixed oak-pine-liquidambar forest and cloud forest litter at 1900–2000m. Derivation of specific name. Through his support of the Nature Discovery Fund at the Canadian Museum of Nature, this species is named after Virginia Weadock of Montreal, Quebec, Canada, as a gift from Mario Lalanne.     Sicoderus ivieorum Anderson (Figures 41–42, 47. Map 7) Sicoderus ivieorum Anderson 1999: 129. Holotype male (USNM) from St. John, Virgin Islands, examined in 1999. Description: Length male, 5.2–6.2 mm; female, 4.8–7.2 mm. Integument black, shining. Eyes separated by a distance about one-half width rostrum at midlength. Rostrum 0.97–1.00x length elytra in male; 1.09–1.17x length elytra in female. Antennal insertion at about midlength in male and female. Prothorax constricted anteriorly, globose, widest at about anterior one- third; punctures well-separated, sparse, very fine and shallow on disk, slightly deeper and larger in anterior one-quarter and very slightly deeper on flanks; with scattered, erect setae along anterior constriction. Elytra in dorsal view distinctly widest at midlength, lateral margins convergent both anteriorly and posteriorly; humeri fully reduced, not at all angulate; with isolated, erect but short (perhaps abraded or broken), setae in sutural region. Strial punctures evident, shallow, moderately fine; striae not impressed throughout length. Membranous wings lacking. Abdominal ventrite 1 of male moderately raised in middle near apical margin forming a moderately elevated tubercle with two small subcontiguous patches of setosity at tip; of female, moderately swollen in middle near apical margin. Ventrite 5 of male with rounded shallow impression in apical three-quarters; of female, uniformly convex. Legs with all femora with ventral margin with distinct ventral tooth; tooth slightly larger on anterior legs; tarsal claws with small basal tooth. Aedeagus (fig. 47) widest at about apical 1/3 but also widened at apex, internal sac with pair of elongate basal sclerites very slightly convergent, each with short basal outwardly directed extension. As for <i>T. montana</i> but elytra rounded, much less elongate; scales of pronotum and elytral intervals plumose, arched apically; scales of strial regions longer, suberect and arched, giving dorsum a much more shaggy appearance.     Eucalandra alas Anderson, sp. n. (Figs. 9 –10, 16, 19 –20, 23) Description. Length 7.8–8.9 mm; width 2.3–2.6 mm. Integument (Figs. 9–10) reddish brown, dorsally with black chevron in middle of pronotum, venter black, legs variously infuscate; distinct yellow-white scales present, various in size, widespread over body, forming condensed patch of elytral intervals 5–8 just anterior to declivity (Costa Rica); or integument fully black, lacking distinct scales (Panama). Antennal scape (Fig. 16) as long as funicle, club with basal shiny, glabrous portion comprising basal 2 / 3 to 4 / 5 length of club. Front femora with inner margin simple, occluding area on front tibiae simple, not modified; middle and hind femora and tibiae with inner margins simple. Front tibia with inner margin very finely serrate towards apex. Hind tibia slightly curved inwardly along outer margin. Tarsi with ventral pilose pads large, covering almost entire ventral surface of tarsite 3. Aedeagus as in figs. 19–20. Material examined. Derivation of specific name. This species is named after the NSF funded Arthropods of La Selva inventory project (acronym, ALAS; Jack Longino and Robert Colwell, Co-Principal Investigators). Participants and employees in the project collected most of the specimens of this species and numerous other exciting insects during its almost 20 years of existence. The specific epithet “ alas ” is to be treated as a noun in apposition. Distribution. Costa Rica and Panama (Fig. 23). Biology. Specimens were collected from mid-elevation wet cloud forest between 1050 and 1550 m. Most specimens from Costa Rica were collected from malaise traps. Comments. Apart from the differences in integument color and vestiture, the Panama and Costa Rica forms cannot be distinguished. Characteristic for this species of Crostis are (i) transverse pronotum with disc longitudinally striate or with striae broken into elongate punctures and most of flanks with elongate punctures (Figs. 13–14), (ii) length of first funicular article slightly shorter than combined lengths of articles 2–4, (iii) punctures of ventrites I and II large (Fig. 19), lateralmost areas of ventrite I with 2 punctures along length, ventrites I and II with distinct isodiametric microsculpture (also on metasternum), and (iv) penis with apex protruded medially, strongly expanded laterally towards base, endophallus distally with symmetrical, elongate, fluted, gutter-like endophallite with equally thickened and sclerotized margins, apodemes ca. 2.2× longer than length of penis body (Fig. 21). Etymology. The name is derived from the similarity of this species to C. boreas. Natural history. The three known specimens have been sifted from leaf litter in forests from 2600–3170 m in elevation. Notes. Two of the specimens are incorrectly labelled as Querétaro but GPS coordinates indicate the locality is just across the state border into Michoacán. Material examined.     37. Theognete montana Anderson, new species (Figures 8, 149, 184, 219) Diagnosis. Size. Length, male, 3.85–4.78mm; female, 3.65–4.75mm. Width, male, 2.14–2.70mm; female, 1.80–2.53mm. Pronotum strongly cordate, with scales suberect to erect, clumped at anterolateral margin and on either side of midline at midlength; distinct glabrous areas present. Elytra elongate, longer than wide, sides subparallel for greater part of length, scales simple, erect, not arched or recurved at apex, variously clumped in multiple rows over elytral disk; strial regions with distinct, long, fine, hair-like scales but striae not impressed. Lateral area of elytra with striae clearly indicated by linearly arranged, fine, hair-like scales, posterolateral area of elytra with a series of contiguous, individually indistinct punctures. Collected from berlese extraction of cloud forest and wet oak forest leaf litter at elevations of 2700–2910m. Derivation of specific name.     Sicoderus beatyi Anderson, n. sp. (Figures 7–8, 12. Eyes rather widely separated by a distance slightly less than width rostrum at midlength. Rostrum 1.06–1.09x length elytra in male; 1.08–1.11x length elytra in female. Antennal insertion slightly before middle in male and female. Prothorax constricted anteriorly, globose, widest at about anterior one-third; punctures well-separated, sparse, very fine and shallow on disk, not much deeper or larger in anterior one-quarter or on flanks; erect setae absent. Elytra in dorsal view widest at about midlength, lateral margins convergent both anteriorly and posteriorly; humeri fully reduced, not at all angulate; with scattered, very fine erect setae. Strial punctures evident, shallow, moderately fine; striae not impressed. Membranous wings absent. Abdominal ventrite 1 of male flat basally, in middle near posterior margin with two very small setose points, not tuberculate; of female, uniformly convex in middle near posterior margin. Ventrite 5 of male flattened medially towards apex; of female, uniformly convex. Legs with all femora simple, ventral margin lacking any trace of tooth; tarsal claws simple, no basal tooth. Aedeagus (fig. 12) subparallel-sided, internal sac with pair of elongate sinuate basal sclerites, convergent but separate anteriorly, and basal patch of dense, fine spicules. Female not dissected. Natural History: Adults were collected in pluviselva (term used in Cuba for a montane wet forest) and dry cloud forest litter (958–1370 m) and beating vegetation along trails. Comments: In contrast to all other members of the genus from the Greater Antilles, this species, S. bipunctivenris, S. caladeler and S. morio all lack a small basal tooth on the tarsal claws.
