Hate speech and social media: Combating a dangerous relationship
The article proposes a reflection on the configuration of the contemporary digital agorà as a powerful ‘hate factory’, focusing on the dangers deriving from perva sive and planetary practices of divisive news construction and sharing trough the social
media. In the first part, it will be argued that the increase of lexical choices based on hate or verbal violence must be connected to the characteristics of the contemporary hybrid media system, and considered as a concrete threat for democracies, which challenges institutions to find innovative ways to face it at a legislative as well as at a cultural level. In the second part of the article, some EU recent normative actions against hate speech will be presented in order to underline links with the 2022 “Code on hate speech”, promoted by Italian Authority for Communications (AGCOM) in Italy: this document established the binding criteria for the programming of Italian audio-visual media service providers, in order to prevent and combat hate speech by avoiding any dissemination, justification, minimization of violence, hatred or discrimination both in
information and entertainment. From all these institutional initiatives clearly emerges the need to reinforce the legal framework for tackling hate speech and discrimination, starting from the normative lack of strict rules in many European countries

Il cortocircuito dell’odio in rete: il ruolo delle emozioni, le contromisure per una “svolta culturale"
The article focuses the radical transformations associated with the affirmation of digital technologies in journalism. The pervasiveness of social media in the search for news in the daily on-life experience and the significance of data in newsmaking practices have opened up new possibilities for accessing and disseminating news, also giving space to a problematic mix of factual and totally (or partially) false or incorrect content, created with different levels of intentionality (disinformation, misinformation, malinformation). Although the use of fake news is not new, the contemporary success of disinformation strategies present peculiar and unprecedented characteristics that pose significant challenges both in terms of the journalistic profession and in terms of citizenship

Journalism and fake news in the Covid-19 era: Perspectives for media education in Italy
In this article, drawing from the data collected by the AGCOM during the pandemic crisis, we argue that the emergence of COVID 19 has made more evident the new relationships between the informative cybercascades, the significant need of news during a crisis, the presence of disinformation online, and the relevant consequences on collective narrations, often producing a generalized panic. We also argue that infotainment can be considered a critical turning point in the relationship between true and false in the news because of its fusion of facts, drama, and emotional narrative frames so that it is no longer possible to separate reality from media reconstruction of it. We finally argue that Media Education can help individuals unpack the complexities of this fusion and engage ‘civically’ so that, by combining critical thinking and social action, they can contribute to reconnect (news)media to vital issues such as credibility, freedom of expression, pluralism, democracy, and social change
Migrants in Italian Spectacular Jornalism. Fuel for Racism?
The role played by newsmedia in the perception of the Other is central in a democracy because the foreigner-enemy frame and the description of the migratory phenomenon as a menace offered by journalism may contribute to the spread of racism and influence migration policies in order to ensure safety. In this paper I will underline the presence of some linguistic strategies used by Italian newsmedia to present migrants as a danger and will put them in connection with infotainment logic and the new flow of direct digital communication between individuals and leaders
