    Treatment of nursing bottle caries with ribbond

    Ribbond is a biocompatible, esthetic material made from high-strength polyethylene fiber. Lenowoven polyethylene ribbon (Ribbond) has been used successfully for tooth splinting, replacement of missing teeth, reinforcement of provisional acrylic resin fixed partial dentures, and orthodontic retention. This article presents the application of this polyethylene ribbon - RIBBOND - for the treatment of nursing bottle caries. To conclude we suggest that this combined technique of polyethylene fibers and composite material could be a very efficient alternative procedure to conventional treatment plans in pedodontic practice, with excellent esthetics and functional results

    On the Complexity of Symmetric Polynomials

    The fundamental theorem of symmetric polynomials states that for a symmetric polynomial f_{Sym} in C[x_1,x_2,...,x_n], there exists a unique "witness" f in C[y_1,y_2,...,y_n] such that f_{Sym}=f(e_1,e_2,...,e_n), where the e_i's are the elementary symmetric polynomials. In this paper, we study the arithmetic complexity L(f) of the witness f as a function of the arithmetic complexity L(f_{Sym}) of f_{Sym}. We show that the arithmetic complexity L(f) of f is bounded by poly(L(f_{Sym}),deg(f),n). To the best of our knowledge, prior to this work only exponential upper bounds were known for L(f). The main ingredient in our result is an algebraic analogue of Newton's iteration on power series. As a corollary of this result, we show that if VP != VNP then there exist symmetric polynomial families which have super-polynomial arithmetic complexity. Furthermore, we study the complexity of testing whether a function is symmetric. For polynomials, this question is equivalent to arithmetic circuit identity testing. In contrast to this, we show that it is hard for Boolean functions

    Social networks are growing day by day. Users of the social networks are generating values for these networks. All the users can’t be considered equal as they have different social network impact value. In this paper we analyze the social impact of a user and propose a method to estimate an individual’s worth to a social network in terms of impact. The mathematical evaluations show the effectiveness of our method. Based on the proposed method many applications can be built taking into consideration the impact any individual’s social profile has. We have tried to make various social data attributes more valuable and meaningful.</jats:p

    Attitude and awareness of expectant and lactating mothers toward infant oral health care in North Indian subpopulation: A cross-sectional study

    Introduction: Mothers play a key role in adoption of preventive strategies for an improved oral health in the first few crucial years of life of infants and young children. The purpose of the study is 2 folds: (1) to evaluate and compare the awareness and attitude (Aw-At) levels between expectant and lactating mothers toward infant oral health care and (2) to analyze the influence of maternal sociodemographic variables on their Aw-At levels toward infant oral health care. Materials and Methods: A total of 500 expectant and lactating mothers visiting the outpatient department of the government hospital in Rohtak, India, were randomly selected and interviewed through a 27-item self-designed, structured questionnaire. Mann–Whitney, Kruskal–Wallis, and Chi-square tests were applied for assessment and comparison. Results: Lactating mothers scored significantly higher than expectant mothers (P = 0.004) in awareness levels. Awareness score of mothers (26–35 years old) was also significantly higher than the younger ones (P = 0.002). Urban group had a higher attitude score than rural group mothers (P = 0.002). Working mothers scored more in both Aw-At scores (P < 0.001). The awareness scores also increased significantly with increase in educational qualification (P < 0.001) and parity of mothers. Conclusion: The study had found low awareness levels toward infant oral health care but a positive attitude among mothers. Hence, it is suggested to increase this to ensure optimal dental health for themselves and their children by educating and motivating the mothers, providing prenatal counseling, anticipatory guidance, referral by the medical personnel, and most importantly, establishing the concept of dental home
