Sindrome delle apnee ostruttive notturne : sono sempre causa di non idoneità a mansioni complesse?
The author, after an analysis of the statistical data on work-related diseases reported to the INAIL and listed on the Annual Report 2007, examines the main highlights of the "new tables of professional diseases in industry and agriculture" published in the Ministerial Decree of July 21st, 2008 (GU n.169, 21-7-2008), also relating to the introduction of musculoskeletal disorders of the upper limb due to bio-mechanical strain into the list of professional diseases to which the legal presumption of origin is applicable

A 2D TBI model to study lateral dynamics in ship impact event
This paper presents a simplified 2D train-bridge dynamic interaction simula-tion tool to model the scenario of a ship collision against one of the piers of a bridge located on an oversea connection. Being rolling and lateral motion of each carbody of a train predom-inant in train motion following a ship collision event during train transit, only these two com-ponents of vehicle dynamics are considered. The bridge structure is modelled by means of a modal approach, ship impact is represented through a time dependent force, taken from lit-erature. The proposed simplified model enables a fast check, thanks to a time-efficient simula-tion, during early bridge design phase, in terms of lateral carbody acceleration, so as to get an early representation of the influence of ship collision events on train lateral dynamics. In fact, the proposed model allows the user to test and investigate a large variety of scenarios, in terms of train and structure properties as well as loading features, in a fast and efficient way, without loss of relevant information. Moreover, this approach would enhance structure and train dynamic interaction understanding, highlighting the role played by train lateral dynam-ics and its interaction with bridge dynamics, in critical scenarios
The Italian decree 195/2006 on the protection of workers against risks arising from noise
The Italian decree 195/2006 incorporates the European Directive 2003/10/CE on the minimum health and safety requirements regarding the exposure of workers to the risks arising from physical agents (noise). It is rather different to previous decree 277/1991, particularly as regard of the new exposure limit value and the elimination of annex VI and VII. We discus here only two aspects that we consider relevant and quite critical: 1) the calculation of the exposure limit values as noise equivalent level: it is a method that underestimates the potential damage of impulsive noise, so the risk evaluation remains quite inaccurate. 2) to take account of the attenuation provided by the individual hearing protectors worn by the worker in determining the worker's effective exposure when applying the exposure limit values: this must not apply to the obligations of employer to control the risk at source avoiding or reducing exposure to the minimum. Furthermore the attenuation power of individual hearing protectors is difficult to measure because his variability during the time and among different subjects. Then we evaluate and discus the new duties of Occupational Physician in this matter. The daily exposure limit values and action values are in fact in part modified as well as the methodology for organize the programs of prevention, health surveillance, information and formation of workers. As support for his activity we proposed the guidelines that The Italian Society of Occupational Health and Industrial Hygiene (SIMLII) has published in 2003, which provides recommendations for the health surveillance for the prevention of noise induced hearing loss at the workplace

Assessing the Technical–Economic Feasibility of Low-Altitude Unmanned Airships: Methodology and Comparative Case Studies
The current growing interest in lighter-than-air platforms (LTA) has been fueled by the significant development of some enabling technologies, in particular electric motors and on-board electronics. The localization of multiple thrust forces in the layout of the airship, as well as the ability to manage them through automatic control, promises to mitigate the controllability issues connatural to this type of flying craft. Employed on unmanned missions and close to the ground, LTA vehicles now appear to be a technically viable alternative to other unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) or low-flying manned machines and are similarly capable of effectively achieving the corresponding mission goals. A key step in establishing the credibility of LTA vehicles as industrial solutions for an end user is an assessment of the economic effort required for producing and operating them. This study presents an analytic approach for evaluating these costs, based on the data available at a preliminary design level for an airship. Three missions currently flown by other types of flying machines were considered, and for each mission the sizing and preliminary design of a LTA platform capable of providing the same mission performance was carried out. Correspondingly, a newly introduced method for the estimation of the cost of a LTA platform was applied. Also, an estimation of the costs currently sustained by operators for each mission was obtained from the available data and with the support of relevant companies, who currently do not fly LTA platforms but operate with more standard flying machines (in particular, multicopter or fixed-wing UAVs or manned helicopters). Finally, the costs corresponding to both currently flying non-LTA vehicles and suitably designed LTA solutions were compared, yielding indications of the emerging economic trade-offs

Occupational exposure to crystalline silica dust rapresented in the last century one of the most important dispose of enviromental medicine mainly for lung involvement. Thechnological advances have contributed to substantially reducing the occurrence of silicosis and other respiratory disorders by decreasing the exposure levels to silica dust. Actually there is increasing evidence from epidemiologic studies that silica dust exposure is associated with increased risk for a wide variety of autoimmune diseases, including scleroderma, rheumatoid artritis, systemic sclerosis, systemic lupus erythematosus, vasculitis and impared renal function and end-stage renal diseases. Mechanisms of autoimmune induction following exposure to particulate silica are unclear, although an adjuvant effect is proposed. Silica dust may act to promote or accelerate disease development, requiring some other factor to break immune tolerance or initiate autoimmunity. It has been hypotizied that crystalline silica could promote both the activation of inflammatory pathway, that the production of autoantibodies through abnormal regulation of apoptosis. The specific manifestation of this effect may depend on underlying differences in genetic susceptibility or other environmental exposures. However more affords are needed to clarified the pathogenesis of autoimmunity. We report three clinical case in which crystalline silica dust exposure could has promoted development of autoimmune disease
