No full textProducing high-precision flood maps requires integrating and correctly classifying information coming from heterogeneous sources. Methods to perform such integration have to rely on different knowledge bases. A useful tool to perform this task consists in the use of Bayesian methods to assign probabilities to areas being subject to flood phenomena, fusing a priori information and modeling with data coming from radar or optical imagery. In this chapter we review the use of Bayesian networks, an elegant framework to cast probabilistic descriptions of complex systems, applied to flood monitoring from multi-sensor, multi-temporal remotely sensed and ancillary data

No full textIl contributo analizza il fondo fotografico dell'antiquario fiorentino Elia Volpi focalizzando su di un aspetto particolare: il commercio dei falsi, in particolar modo delle sculture realizzate attorno agli anni Venti del Novecento da Alceo Dossena. Le fotografie rinvenute nel fondo fotografico con sculture di Dossena, assieme alle lettere inviate da Volpi a Wilhelm von Bode, invitano a ripensare il ruolo avuto da Volpi nella vendita delle opere a importanti musei americani
Modular engineering prototyping plan for speech recognition in a visual object oriented environment
No full textA speech processing system may require many different processing steps. It is therefore useful to achieve a modularity that can ensure the re-usability of different processing units in different applications. In this paper an engineering approach to quickly create prototypes for speech recognizers based on HMM theory is proposed. The presented system can be used for many different selected speech applications. Here it has been tuned specifically for words and sentences recognition of a regional variety of Italian. Experimental results have been obtained using the AVIP corpus of Italian spontaneous speech. The prototyping sy stem is based on the "Khoros" software framework; it offers the possibility of easily implementing a processing system planned for high software modularity and re-usability. This approach leads to quick modifications and extensions of the planned speech system
